Patrick Bamford - should he get a chance?

Featured Replies

A quick glance at the goal stats for all Palace's forward (none of them assisted or scored a single goal) really baffles me on why he isn't getting the minutes to play.

Seriously, this guy is talented and won the championship's player of the year last season for a reason. He should be playing more games yet he is rotting on the bench for their off form forwards to fluff their chances. I mean how bad can it get to start another forward when the rest aren't doing much?

Hopefully, there's a recall option in this loan if things continue to get worse.

I agree he should be getting Premier League minutes, but he's not getting them at the moment. I simply stated that getting minutes for Middlesbrough would have been better than sitting on the bench all season.

Palace got 10th place last season and it was clear Pardew was a good fit for them. Naturally they were going to try and build on this with players like Cabaye coming in. Maybe we should have known going from the Championship to a top 10 team in the PL would be a step too high for him.

I know they hadn't bought Wickham then but we should really be more careful, this isn't the first time this is happening. We should just invoke some recall clauses or something.

Middlesbrough are actually doing quite well in the Championship at the moment but that's going off-topic now.

I do agree with you that letting him rot the bench isn't a good way to continue to develop him so I think there's a strong possibility that Crystal Palace wasn't a good fit for Bamford, but nevertheless I do stand by my comments that EPL experience was necessary for his development rather than playing him in the Championship for another season.

He'd already proven he was great at that level and so the next step was essential to see whether he could play well in the top leagues and if he was good enough there the idea of bringing him back to the first-team squad wouldn't have been too far-fetched in my opinion.

I also agree that loan recall clauses should be essential in situations like this because this is hurting his development.

should send him to bournemouth

I was thinking exactly that driving home tonight. With Wilson now out long-term think that would be ideal and it would keep him close to home. As TCB says though, not sure if you can loan to two separate PL clubs in the same season? But it's a waste of time him being at Palace and a repeat of McEachran's wasted loan time at Swansea.

Looks like he's not getting any more chances at Norwich really.

Which is strange / worrying, as having seen Norwich up close, they are desperate for a goal scorer. Surely a run of games and both he & Norwich would benefit - he has to be a better option than Jerome?

''Lastly, the Newcastle Chronicle report that the newly-relegated Newcastle United want to sign Chelsea youngster Patrick Bamford for around £10 million. The 20-year-old failed to earn much playing time on-loan with Crystal Palace or Norwich this season, and seems unlikely to break into the Blues’ first-team. However, the Magpies are eager to make a quick return to the Premier League under Rafa Benitez, and recognise Bamford as an ideal signing with proven Championship experience.''

Probably a good transfer for all parties concerned, hopefully he will have a much more successful time of it next season where ever he may be, as he could really use a change of fortune.

Shame if he goes, as others have suggested it would be/have been interesting to see how he gets on with better quality players around him. I think he demonstrated at Norwich that he relies heavily on others creating space for him to score the type of goals he did at Middlesbrough. £10 million for someone who isn't PL proven seems fair value.

Seemingly RDM is hoping his links to Chelsea will allow him to buy Bamford.

I think this will be his level, initially.

And then after they're promoted he'll do a Harry Kane. Don't underestimate Bamfordinho

If there is a chance that he could, then the club should put in a buy back clause.

It seems like he got lost in the shuffle of too many pointless loans.  I think Boro was about his best one?

If we can get more for him without a buy-back clause then go for that in my opinion. Too limited to ever become a Chelsea-starter thats for sure. Unless we get relegated.

10 million is good money,if a buyback clause is included in the contract then deal!

We already have traore, abraham, solanke and so many others waiting for their chance to shine,it's better to let bamford go

Hope he can make an impact, I feel like this season will be his last opportunity to prove he is worth giving a shot in our first team before we move on.
