Patrick Bamford - should he get a chance?

Featured Replies

Boro need to start sticking him in the middle a lot more. Whenever I've seen him play it's been from right midfield for some bizarre reason. He clearly knows where the net is so hopefully he gets more game time up top.

Makes more sense than starting him on the left I suppose, he's quite left-footed, can't cross particularly well and I can't really imagine them dropping Kike to accommodate him. Not entirely unlike the role Sturridge played for us under AVB.

Seriously this kid needs to be given a chance as backup to COsta next year. He's awesome.

Be interesting to see how we handle this and I hope we don't f**k it up like we did with Sturridge.

Sturridge did everything asked of him at Bolton then came back and hardly got a look in. Goes to Liverpool and other than his injury problems he has been a roaring success. If we do get Bamford back for next season, he of course isn't going to start ahead of Costa but he will need game time. I don't want to see him loaned out again even if it was to a PL club, but equally I don't want him coming back and not getting a chance - it just wouldn't be fair on the lad.

I'm pretty sure he will be a target for many clubs in the summer. I think Chelsea must keep him for the next year, we all can see this boy got football.

Its going to be a hard decision what to do for the best. Keep him at the club, he needs to be 2nd choice and get game time. Send him on loan to prem team to get game time, he might not want to return. This is a big one, he's the first English youth player since Sturridge who has shone while out on loan enough to have earned a place in our first team squad.

I think his versatility could be his savior, he could be 3rd choice striker, and 5th choice winger, which should get him a decent amount of minutes, especially in the first half of the season with champs group games, and league cup.

Do we as a club have enough patience to get the best out of him? I'm not too sure, hopefully if we win the league this year it will take a bit of the pressure off, and next season we will see bamford, rlc, and ake a decent amount of minutes.

103 career appearances so far, 44 goals.

He's 21 years old now, so really next season has to be his break through season with Chelsea or he's going to be leaving it too late.

Question always is the accepted level of failure, i.e. If Bamford had the performances Costa had had lately he'd be dropped without reprieve.

Not a bad return for a lad his age & the clubs he's played for, also he's not playing as a centre forward at Boro at the moment either.

i would much prefer bamford over drogba reincarnated, that was a backward step for me, bringing the drog back as much as i love the fella.

Totally agree & Jose apparently rated Bamford so much that he gave him the choice of being a bit part player this season or going out on loan once Drogba signed.

I want to see Bamford lining up in Chelsea blue next season. This kid really can be our Harry Kane. How many of our loan players end up on the bench for their team getting 0 gametime and come back to Chelsea in a worse position then when they left. This lad is doing all we're asking of him gaining experience and proving he can play. I'm a big fan and I really hope he is given the opportunity to play.

The thing with loaning him back to Boro if they get promoted, is if Boro struggle, and as a consequence he struggles, people will be saying he can't do it in the prem.

Then he will be fit her away from the 1st team than he is now.

Personally I think it's next season or never in terms of being involved in the 1st team.

Love this lad. He really is a talent and his composure in front of goal is brilliant for his age. If he isn't in the first team squad next season I won't be happy. He needs to be in a top team to really flourish, in my opinion. Look at kane this season for Spurs as a prime example.

i think this kid actually amazing. i already commented on his movement but i just cant get enough of it. i mean, look at how he curbs his run just for a split second, to stay onside. not to mention hes two footed and calm in front of the goal. thats really all you need to be a world class striker

he will end up being better and more succesful than lukaku
