Paul Pogba - Needs to Sign!

Featured Replies

Might be another player looking for an improved contract.

Then again I thought that's what Matic was doing so what do I know really.

What's that about?

Nothing, just thought it was a random thing to say so I assumed it was a United fan signed up to WUM, since they're in for Vidal.

Two things...how I wish we could sign this guy (but unlikely given he's signed new deal etc) and secondly how did fergie fcuk up so badly to not play him and let him go...He'd solve one of Utd's big problems right now

Don't need pogba, we've got loftus cheek playing for the reserves, why pay him 35k a week for him to sit in the reserves, and then pay 40m for pogba when they are both the same type of player.

Does anyone else think he is a tad overrated?

Maybe. I wouldn't like us to pay £40 million for him. He's playing in a pretty average league right now so it's hard to judge just how good he is.

Ego and pride on SAF's part I think... He chose to play people out of position in midfield when suffering with injuries rather than give Pogba playing time despite his obvious talent.

Let's also not get Reus because we have Kiwomya and not Messi because we have Boga. The same kind of players who are guaranteed to eventually be of similar quality. After all, if you look at the biggest European clubs they are filled to the brim with club-grown players.

He is pure class. Would pay 50-60 million for him in a heartbeat. At his age i wouldn't be much of a risk even. Way to good to flop, and if we decided to sell him again five years down we'd get the investment back and more.

Kiwomya isn't in the same class as Loftus-Cheek though and Boga plays in a  slightly different position to.....wait a minute. Are you having a bit of a joke here, a bit of what the kids call bantaaaa??

I think it's useful to judge each youth product on their own merits and not just do what you did and take any young player and say they'll do. Loftus-Cheek is an exceptional young player and should at least cause a moment's thought when looking to buy another young player for £50 million, no?

:) A moment's thought, sure, but the problem is that there's a world of difference between the quality of RLC and Pogba. Considering their ages, there are 1000 RLCs and only one Pogba. The probability of him closing that gap within the next 4 years is very slim, regardless of how talented he may seem. And that is why youngsters should be vying for spots with rotation players (Ramires, Mikel) and not be the reason you abstain from signing starting players. If any team in the world signs Pogba, he starts. You are not buying a youth player for £50m.

Friend, you are living in cloud cuckoo land, there is no way chelsea are buying messi, 600 million quid on one player! no chance, Reus 30m? for the for  jack wilshire of German football. a player that has been injured every season for the last  three years with dodgy ankles. what i am saying is that at 18, Cheek is the same type of player, same posistion, difference is 40m euro's! and is expected to be just as good!

My first response to reading that was to laugh and think 'utter bollocks', and that may well be the best response but I'll try and explain.

Firstly I doubt you could name 10 players considered as good as RLC is right now, at his age and in his position. There's also only three years between the two, but Pogba got a great chance and ran with it. Surely Loftus-Cheek could benefit from that now?

The irony of it involving Pogba, a player who wasn't given a chance at his old club surely can't be lost on you? We have one of the finest academies in the world and a great starting XI. Maybe we should start using the former to help the latter?

Actually forgot it. My first response was better.

I was being facetious. But in all seriousness, the problem is that last line - 'He is expected to be'. He is more likely to be a Jack Rodwell than a Pogba. Yes RLC is of a similar mould, but the difference is one of them offers us the opportunity of being title favourites for the next 5 years, the other will in all probability not have near the same impact.

How can you write off Lotfus-Cheek so soon? Fair enough the vast majority of young players won't make it but what is it specifically about Loftus-Cheek that makes you think that?

As you wish. The situation of Pogba (and Matic) is the exception, not the rule. There is no sense of irony to be had. I could name more than 10 players who I* consider to be better than RLC but that would serve no real purpose.

Agreed that we do need to find a better way of bridging the gap between the academy and first team, but it's exceptionally difficult for teams at the top of this league. There is no shame in admitting that.

All I want is to see the club compete and compete well. The difference in satisfaction I would get from seeing that accomplishment with or without academy products, is minimal.

I am absolutely not writing him off. I think he's a superb talent but I am a pragmatist by nature. I hold no unrealistic expectations of our youngsters because I understand that the probability of someone blossoming from a great talent to a great player is very slim.

Go on then. 10 18 year old DMs you consider finer products.

The thing is that a lot of supporters do want to see academy products, especially young English players, brought through. That's why RLC should and hopefully fill get a chance.

Again, what specifically about Loftus-Cheek's game do you think will be a barrier to him stepping up? Equally, what have you seen from watching him play however many times you have that might actually help him make a step that someone like Josh couldn't?

He reminds me a bit of Zidane with his skill, seems to be able to take the ball past anyone in the middle of the pitch, very hard to disposes.

Will he even be off in the summer? I haven't heard much, it's not like a Reus situation currently is it, we definitely know Marco Reus will end up somewhere and we are potential candidate, as for Pogba I'm not even sure he is going to leave anytime soon.
