Diego Costa to Chelsea

Featured Replies

Probably his poorest match in a Chelsea shirt tonight.

I thought he'd be fresh after a few weeks out but he looked a shadow of the player we are used to.

Hope he is back to his normal self against Burnley

I personally think it was because of the style of our game. This isn't Diego Costa's kind of game, he isn't Drogba who can hold up the ball and bring others into play with brute strength. I don't think we will ever see Diego Costa play well in these types of games.

Way too isolated upfront tonight, not another supporting player within 10 yards of him most of the time. His first touch was off, but overall I thought he did a decent job, don't believe anyone else in the team  would have done better. Drogba at his prime would have hold up the ball with 3 defenders around him , Costa is a little different from that.

Costa treaded a fine line again last night I thought. The push on Luiz was silly and looked like he pulled his hair at one stage earlier.

I laughed at the hair pull then sighed.

He isn't going to help himself getting caught up in that and Luiz knew he would bite every single time and sadly Diego did.

It's a part of his game that is never going to go given that's the personality he is, he's such a fantastic player that you fear he could face some more bans in the future.

I reckon he hit it intending it to be a cross knowing that close to goal even if Ramires or Hazard got nowhere near to it there's always the chance of a deflection, even if it only wins a corner, all about putting the ball into dangerous areas and that's why he hit it hard.

He got the deflection and the goal and by not aiming for the near post where he would have been very unlikely to score.

Very intelligent players inside the box.

[emoji1] Maybe Costa negotiated a bad contract..? He needs all the change he can get..

And we thought it was the Spurs fans who were the penny pinchers.

I get it...because Spurs are careful with their money.

Lucky it didn't start a pitch invasion though.

Has Costa been given the goal ?

Does anybody out there know ?

Everywhere I've looked has given it as a Walker own goal, including the League Cup's official site:

http://www.capitalonecup.co.uk/fixtures-results/match-report/index.aspx?MatchId=3804535&hometeamid=4&type=report

That said, their match report makes it seem far more ambiguous:

As the heavens opened over Wembley so did the floodgates for Chelsea. Diego Costa picked the ball up on the edge of the Tottenham box and he slotted home to make it 2-0. Replays showed a deflection once again, this time off Kyle Walker, but Costa claimed and celebrated emphatically in front of the Blues' support.

Costa to end his drought today. Well hopefully.

Well it didn't happen but i'm not really worried. His movement is still very good and he is getting chances. On another day he scores both his chances that he got against West Ham. The 2nd half he was poor, but when the attack are offering absolutely nothing, there isn't much he can do. He isn't Drogba so his hold up play isn't going to be great so we can't just lump the ball up to him, we should be playing him through in on goal like we were doing in the first half of the season.

Hopefully he can get his first Champions League goal for us against PSG.

Still playing well and we're still winning, doesn't matter to me who scores so long as everyone is putting in a shift and we come away with the win.
