Doesn't seem strange at all to me as they are a good team and will be tough opposition for any of the big boys in the UCL.

 

The whole money thing must be a bit blown out of proportion as there is no way he takes a 160k pay cut. There is just no way he would sign a contract which paid that much less than his CFC one unless there was a very good reason (which I cannot think of right now).

Maybe he just liked the idea of living in Italy/Rome for a couple of years.

It's a great city and maybe the idea of being there is what appealed most rather than money.. I mean it's not like he's short of a few bob is it.

Think thats it! He is set up for life. He'll still get paid well and he'll be living in a fine city, with beautiful woman, no doubt having the time of his life!

Obviously Ashley Cole is an older player, but I hope this move sets a precedent for more English players to move abroad.

I think that culture would help a lot of English players to improve.

Quite clearly not a mercenary, just a club legend.

It makes me sad when I see Ashley lurking in the team photo, it must be hard for him, leaving a club that he's been at for 8 years, to go to a completely foreign country, new language and to have no fellow countryman. You can't just jump into a team photo all buddy buddy with players, that I imagine are pretty cold to him.
