Are we letting the old guard go too quickly? They say you shouldn't break up a winning team too fast but does everyone feel like we're easing them all out?

I don't think so really.

I mean we were talking about letting the old guard go 2-3 years ago so it's been a work in progress with Essien, Paulo and others going in the last few seasons and now looking like Ash and Frank.

They can't last forever and Frank especially has looked pretty limited the season just gone compared to what he used to give us.

That being said I'd def keep Ash for one more season.

Yeah I'd imagine Ash was one of our highest earners and with no resale value and age going against him the board have decided to call it a day.

Yip it's always hard when guys who won us leagues and Euopean trophies are leaving but I suppose we have to build a new core/spine for another Chelsea side to dominate for the comming years.

We still have incredible expierence with Ivan, Cech, Terry, Lampard and a few others which should be enough mixed in with the talent of the young guys like Hazard, Schurrle, Oscar and Dave.

I think the next few signings have to be spot on though.

Fantastic player who leaves with a shedload of trophies and some great memories, particularly that penalty in Munich. It's been a privilege to see him play for us. And to think I thought we didn't need him because we had Wayne Bridge!  It probably is the right time to move on.

 

I'd love for someone to make a compilation of all his goal line clearances.

Bet he's gutted having left Arsenal, them being FA Cup winners and all!!!

He's been a great player for us and wish him all the best wherever he decides to go. Just hope it's somewhere like Italy.

We have to start looking at the future lads, now is the right time to let lamps and cole go. It's always difficult to see legends leave but we can't keep living in the past. Been absolutely fantastic for us but good decision.

I think Lamps will get one more year, maybe they should give him a player coach role.

Great servant to the club, wish him the best.

 

He didn't get much playing time this last year, and he is not the type to sit on the bench al Giggs or Neville, so it's reasonable that he wants to spend his last couple good years playing

One of the commanders of the New Chelsea, at his time the best left-back in the world, and without doubt one of the best left-back England has ever seen. I am forever thankful that I witnessed him play and even more that he gave his all week in and week out in a Chelsea jersey, forever an idol.

 

Wish him all the best, will always stay in the minds of generations to come as an integral part of the Munich squad!

Greatest left back i have ever seen. Cole has left his mark on Chelsea that's for sure, but what i will remember most is his goal line clearances, nobody is better at that than Ashley Cole.

 

Brilliant player and for us to let him go must surely mean we are looking for a new LB.

I'm crossing my fingers he's still close with Henry and ends up collecting a nice wage playing for NY in the MLS.

He may still stay if some reports are to be believed, this could be a tactic for wage negotiations.
