Ashley 'They Do Now' Cole - Goodbye & Good Luck

Put some effort into it?

Title should be something like "Thanks for everything Ashley Cole". Chelsea legend and a massive part of our CL-win. Best left-back ever in the premiership, one time the best in the world. Wish he stayed on another year but best of luck wherever he goes.

Sorry sir!!     Try putting some effort in to getting to munich, where ash made those comments.

It's a testament to how good Azpilicueta is that he has kept Cole out of the team this season, and Cole proved that class is permanent with his performances in those massive games near the end of the season.

Easily the best left back in the PL era and one of very few of England's big names that put in good performances consistently.

If this is the end of his time with us I say thank you and wish him the very best in the future. (Provided he doesn't go to Liverpool or United or someone like that)

Cacked myself when he came up to take the 4th penalty in the CL Final.  Didn't he put it away though?

They were all great penalties, but looking at them again last night, I felt Ashley's penalty was the best. Neuer stood up til the last minute, Ash gave a little pause so had to tuck it away right in the corner with pace. With Schweinsteiger he paused and Pete stood up but his peno wasn't in the corner, nor did it have pace. The feint on a penalty is ballsy but I believe is a higher risk penalty.

Losing Ash means losing a truly world class player and a great servant to his club & country. He will forever be a part of our history and of course his "they do now" quote is probably one of my favourite Chelsea moments. He is a LB that is getting on in age but still showed his class when he was called upon this season. Hard to think of another LB putting so many big name players in his pocket. C. Ronaldo checks his closet for Ashley Cole at night. I only pray that he does not end up at another premier league club, I tend to doubt that anyway. Why not take the big bucks in the USA and live the hollywood life.

Thanks for everything Ashley, you will be missed but never forgotten.

Think the club is desperatley trying to comply with FFP and looks like JT's 1 year extension may come at the price of sacrificing

Coley & perhaps SFL (who will sort it out 1 way or the other after the WC now ?).

If he ends up at the Dippers it will be a sad state of affairs but his agent is going to get himself and Coley the maximum amount of readies

so we must all be prepared for that nightmarish scenario, hope he goes to Real with Carlo as useful back up.

One if the best comments ever made by a Chelsea player. Great stuff. Really thought his play went way down over the last couple years but that doesn't take away from what he has given to this club. Great, Great player. Was the best LB in the world for a long time. Thank you Ashley Cole.

Can't forget that even some of our supporters called him "Cashley" for a few years after he joined us.

After all these years and times he's stepped up, I'd like to hear from some of them.

Best LB we could have had, best of luck to him.

I can't see him going to Liverpool either.  But he may go to another premiership club.  If we get Shaw, Man Utd are in negotiations (maybe already leaving) with Evra, they could try and get Ash on the fly.

However, I think he'll more than likely go to the continent or come for a longer contract in the US.

Always begrudgingly admired him while he was at Arsenal.  Remember sitting in an airport at midnight on closing day of the window we got him in, and I was very pleased.

As mentioned, his goal line clearances have been amazing, the side netting just inside the post for his penalty in Munich, and then the "they do now" comment.  A player others loved to hate, and I'm just glad we got to love him.

Thanks for everything Ash, they should make a statue outside of SB when the "old guard" all retire (Cech, Terry, Lamps, Drogba, Ash)

Not everyone is fortunate enough to be able to afford to go to matches abroad, you know, weepat.   It isn't  necessarily a question of making the effort.

Thank you to whichever mod changed the title.

Absolutely loathed him at Le Arse. Couldn't believe when Jose and Kenyon were rumored to have tapped him up at a posh London restaurant. Couldn't believe it when he signed.

Took a while to win me over, but boy has he ever! Dependable as you like. Clearances off the goal line galore. So natural on Terry's left that you'd think they were somehow connected. Can't praise him enough, really.

I only hope upon hope he ends up going to Real Madrid. I think Carlo rates him highly. Would be an awful sight to see him at either of the red teams.

Cheers,

Butch

I remember people at the Old Shed End forum saying they'd hate the idea of a gooner coming to CFC and slagging me off for even suggesting he'll be an improvement over their darling Wayne Bridge. Well, who's come out on top on that one, huh? I demand an apology from all of you bar stewards.

Great player and a great servant to the club, we were lucky to have the world's best left back amongst us. He gave his all on the pitch and kept his cool throughout the moronic booing of the opposition fans, which takes a very strong character to do on a regular basis.

Thanks Ash, and good luck.

I remember there being similar conversations on here, but without the slagging off. I think it was fairly evenly split between those who thought Bridge was as good (or better) and we were wasting our time with a gooner and those who thought Cole was the best full back around and it was a great signing. I cant even remember which side I came down on, I think I was pro Cole. He has been an outstanding player, rarely bettered by any opposition player and easily the best player for England from that generation.

I was one of those that didn't like the deal.. Not just because I fealt bridge was good enough, also because for me at the time galas was the Best center half in Europe And didn't want him going to gooners.. worked out well in the end mind

:good2:  :good2: Now I agree.

Definitely did, Gallas went sh*t in a half season after we got rid and Cole went on to get even better.

I too didn't want Cole here because i didn't want Gallas to go. I really liked Gallas when he was here with us fantastic player. Cole's been a great signing for us one of the best LB in the world especially defensively and just very consistent and reliable. Very rarely did he get beaten one v one and he always seemed to up his game when up against a world class player like a Ronaldo or Robben etc.

Having said that i'm not that disappointed he's going, he doesn't offer enough going forward for me and i thought Bertrand did just a good at job as him last season when Cole was out. Plus we also now have PVA coming back so we need to start looking at the future. Azpi was better than him this season too and he will get alot of money of the wage bill. I think i heard Ray Wilkins say a few times that Cole has bad ankles and seems to always play through the pain barrier so maybe it is a good decision.

Apparently Real Madrid have offered him a two year deal. I hope he goes there! I'd hate for him to end up at one of our rivals.

Even before we had Cole I knew he was the best. Wayne Bridge was decent but he was nowhere near Ashley Cole's level.

Bridge was decent at the time but there was no debate whatsoever as to who was better. Ashley Cole was already pretty much the best LB in Europe and cemented that reputation with us.

I hated the deal too because I felt that Gallas was a vital player for us. He did a great job at LB for two years and even filled in at RB at certain points, all the while being a world class CB. I rated him so highly and genuinely thought that Arsenal should have paid us the £5 million! Ashley Cole seemed like a c*ck at the time but I recognised how good he was.

Ultimately, the deal turned out terrifically for us. Cole gave us excellent service for 8 years whilst Gallas became a cancer in Arsenal's dressing room.

Brilliant brilliant player who outside of Chelsea and reluctant Arsenal fans over the years did not get the credit he deserves.

I remember an old thread along the lines of '1001 reasons why we don't want/need Ashley Cole'. I'll hazard there'd be a few red faces around here if it still existed!
