Star should always be taken seriously though.

Filipe Luís has undoubtedly been one of Atlético's top performers over the last two years, making the left-back berth his own and proving one of the cornerstones of Diego Simeone's all-conquering side. However, his wages do not reflect this status and the Brazilian feels undervalued at the club, which is why he has been hinting at an exit since last summer.

This summer, however, is a different kettle of fish: Filipe has made up his mind to leave this time round. He told the Calderón-based outfit as much a month ago, rejecting the improved terms he had been offered by the club. There was more money on the table at Stamford Bridge and he was keen to try his luck in the Premier League, so Atlético resigned themselves to losing the full-back - provided Chelsea met his €24 million release clause, that is.

However, the weeks are ticking by and things have reached a standstill. The Blues have failed to come up with the cash, while the 'Rojiblancos' have already signed Filipe's replacement in the shape of fellow Brazilian Guilherme Siqueira, brought in for €10 million from Granada (though he spent last term on loan at Benfica). The higher-ups at the Calderón, though, are at a loss to explain the way the 28-year-old is acting, having taken a chance on the defender when he was coming off the back of a serious injury at Deportivo.

Atletico, the new Porto for us. Maybe it will not just be Luis, but Costa as well, that we need to seek alternatives for.

Give Bertrand a proper go ffs.

Agreed but seems like he may be off to Hull for around 5mill.

Agree that we should be giving Bertrand a proper chance. He's always done a good job when asked

Maybe we are actually considering doing this, because of the home grown criteria?

Blackman, JT, Chalobah and Bamford could fill the "Chelsea HG" quota I think

Cahill, Cesc would be other HG players, with options like PvA as another if he was back up LB. That would allow us a squad of 24 players along with under 21 options.

So I do not think Jose will keep him just because Betrand is HG, nor will he stay as a back up any more imo.

McEachran, Moses & Kane would also be classed as HG too. Whether they stay or not i'm not sure

I doubt they will though.

Jose said last season that Chalobah will be part of the first team squad for this coming season, Blackman makes sense as 3rd choice since he is unlikely to need to be risked unless we approach a GK crisis given we will have 2 from the 3 of Cechk, Courtios and Mark S. JT we know will be there and Bamford might, but probably wont be, 3rd choice behind Costa/Mandzukic/Lukaku/Ba/Torres/who-ever-else-we-are-linked-with.

Jose seems to have little to no interest in Mose, Josh or Kane.

Jose says a lot of things, though.

So quick question- Luis or Rodriguez?!

I prefer the later. Good crosser of the ball (takes a lot of club and country free kicks and corners) physically capable, young and defensively sound. I wish more on here felt the same way...maybe y'all do?

Just think Luis wouldn't be that much better than Dave or Ryan if he were given a chance.

^ £20m for a 29yr old fullback playing in a foreign league is IMO a higher risk than Utd are taking with Shaw. I agree with you on the experience from, but we have Cech, Terry, Cahill, Ivanovic, Ramires, Mikel & even Fabregas to provide that.

I don't think we ever intended to pay his buy out clause. We expected a deal in good faith after letting them have one of the best young goal keeper in the world stay with them for 3 seasons.

I think we've probably offered something like 15 mill and they want 24. Best course of action would be to move onto another target.

There's a good chance that off all the players you listed only three will be regular starters next season, Terry, Cahill and Fabregas... And of course Fabregas is new to the team.

I'm not 100% happy about the idea of paying £20m odd for left back on his last contract either but we had such a good defense for most of last season it would be odd for us to risk the foundations put in place last season on a inexperienced/unknown quantity.

We need to get Dave over on the right back position to allow for better balance and more natural width in the defense so we need a left back, seeing as United have just dropped £31m on potential, rather than the finished article you would have to say £20m isn't too bad in the grand scheme of things.

Filipe Luís was arguably the best left-back in Europe last year, his age is an irrelevance if he's going to give us a grear 3-4 years of service & help this team reach its full potential.

Filipe Luis is so determined to push through his protracted transfer to #CFC that he has cut off all contact with Atletico Madrid. (Express)

Luis spent summer ignoring Atletico's requests to talk. While they are furious at his behaviour they will not lower £19m tag. #CFC (Express)

After Atletico stitched us up with UEFA re the contract agreement with Courtois, we should tell them £10m now or we will have him on a free next season,

How did they stitch us up?

It was UEFA who screwed us over by waiting till the last minute to say that a written contract isn't worth the paper it's written on if they say so.
