Filipe Luis to Chelsea... and Back Again.

Featured Replies

I'm very much for this deal, and I hope it goes through soon. We've been giving Arsenal stick for ages with the "you win nothing with kids" stuff, and I think there's some truth to that statement.

Just one thing I am not certain about. Luis at 29 is he too old to be a top LB? I like to remind you of Ashley at 29 years old.

Ashley Cole at 29 won the league and FA cup.

If Luis helps us achieve the same this season I'll have no complaints.

Carefree,

One cannot predict what Chelsea's winning, but I have a great confidence in Luis. At least, what I had seen last year, I thought he was very good and helped Atletico a lot. Some folks here complained about his price tag. That's the funniest thing to read from Chelsea's supporters.

The age thing is irrelevant as far as im concerned. Hes 29, not 49.

How old was Ballack when he signed ? Makalele ?

Amazed people are finding time to moan about us signing a clearly top level player.

Too many people think they know better than the man in charge

I know it was a rhetorical question but Makalele was 30 when he signed and I believe Ballack was 29, arguably two of our best signings of the Abramovic era.

If we get four good years out of Luis then it will be a success, been a few years since we signed outfield players over the age of 25 for a fee so it's not like we're making a habit of signing players in the twighlight years of their career.

Zola, desailly, ferrer....

What does it say?

Filipe Luis is rushing his last days as Atletico Madrid. It is expected to leave the Atleti discipline soon to sign for Chelsea. The English club will raise the offer and pay the amount of his buyout clause to take the Brazilian to Stamford Bridge, as happened with Diego Costa few days ago. But it is still Atletico player. And their willingness and intensity in training, nobody would say that is about to leave Atletico.

After the physical problems he had on Friday and Saturday, the side has returned to training proving to be in great shape. Yesterday came the ultimate test in one of the exercises that the coaching staff had designed for the first session of the three to be held on the day.

Within the physical circuit designed by the 'Professor' Ortega , one of the jobs was to measure the speed of players between two points within a few meters, dodging in between a pike placed aside. The measurements were performed using a photocell measuring the speed of each player by a bracelet which is placed.

The Atletico were going and the fastest was Arda Turan , who had already been congratulated by the Uruguayan trainer for making the trip in 1.7 seconds. With the other players 'chopped' to see who exceeded the Turkish with the 'Professor' constantly joking to encourage their wards came Filipe, one of the last to go through that station. And the Brazilian brand sprayed his friend Arda, leaving in 1.650 seconds. The lateral literally flew to become the winner in the morning and celebrate in style with the 'Professor' Ortega.

Filipe Luis will leave, but his implication is clear until the last day.

We have just waved goodbye to one Luiz who couldn't defend properly, I just hope the new Luis can.

No worries, if he can't we can always flog him on for £50m in a couple of years.

He very well can FWIW.

I will have to take your word then as I know practically nothing about him personally. First question, does he have genuine pace? Second question, how is he in the air?

Actually I take all that back I have just realised you are talking about the Athletico player.

Cheers, seems a hard worker then, one of the traits Mourinho will love

The Brazilian will play for England after his four seasons wearing the red and white.

Atletico Madrid and Chelsea have reached an agreement to transfer the rights of Filipe Luis, pending the medical with the English club. The Brazilian footballer had told our club at the end of the campaign his willingness to join the London entity.

Luis Filipe joined Atletico Madrid from Deportivo La Coruna in the summer of 2010, winning the European Super Cup against Inter Milan. During the four campaigns that our organization has played for the Brazilian left-back has played 180 matches proclaimed champion of Liga, Copa del Rey, UEFA Europa League and one European Super Cup against Chelsea.

From the club we wish him luck in his new assignment.
