Vice captain for next season

Cesc is going to rise in the list.

Cahill is a good shout but that Jose's list reall tells you we haven't got a clue about the group dynamics as we are not there. Mikel is a surprise but it just tells you how appreciated figure he is inside the group. That is also why some of us get so surprised to see him playing for us year after year.

What do you mean? He clearly says the list is based on years spent at the club. Nothing else.

Doesn't matter. Being a captain doesn't mean much. Being vice-captain means less.

Cahill will be our future captain anyway, so might as well give it to him now.

Old post now but what a very odd thing to say.

Mikel? Lol I can't see Mikel defending the team's interests and talking to refs. IMO, years being at the club shouldn't be the deciding factor if the player isn't captain material. And ideally, it should be a world-class player and someone who is not shy.

Yeah, john terry has had almost no effect as captain.

How much of that do you think is down to the armband, as opposed to his character? Drogba was very much a leader on the pitch without the armband, Lamps too (perhaps to a lesser extent and slightly differently). Would he not have been as much of a leader without the title of captain?

I think Lamps may have become a more vocal leader if he was captain.

I think Ivanovic could be nice Vice-Captain. He gives his all for Chelsea. Just look at his reactions after missing chances, or ref's strange decisions... Remember when he wanted to beat assistant referee against West Brom because of giving throw-in to WBA?

Brana is the future leader.

I think it's appropriate to resurrect this thread in light of Drogba and Cech's departures.

If we're sticking with the previous policy of longevity/experience then presumably the main candidates are Ivanovic and Mikel.

In terms of who is the best leader after JT, I'm not 100% sure. Fabregas has previous experience as a Premier League captain, then again the Arsenal connection makes me a little uncomfortable. If we're looking to groom a future captain, Hazard would be an interesting choice, but I'm not entirely sure how commanding a presence he is in the dressing room.

Any thoughts?

I actually don't think Costa would be a good captain, I love his aggression but I don't think its suited to being the one in the referees ear, might be a bit too intimidating.

Hazard I think is a bit too quiet for a captain, but that might chance with a couple of more years in the team behind him.

I know he has history with arsenal but that's water under the bridge for me Cesc has been there & done it, he seems to be loving every minute of being a blue.

I hope Terry has a few more years in him, so Gaz will be over 30, as will Cesc, Diego etc.. So in an ideal world, it would pass on to Zouma or RLC smashes his way in to the team week in week out and can stake a claim for it.

Realistically though, I'd say Edit: Matic actually! I'd love it to he Azpi but can't see it unfortunately!

Looks like Cahill has been given the role, which will in a year or two become a role of a captain.

He is on the pitch 99% of the time, he has now won every trophy in England and in Europe, and he is English.

Can't argue that he souldn't be the vice-captain, and the only person that comes close to that role is Ivanovic at the moment.

Ivanovic should be his vice-captain when Terry leaves if he is still around then.

Cudardo.

To be Falcao's vice-captain, I agree.

But if we are looking at who's been around the longest, no doubt Mikel should have it after JT.

Seems like he's going to outlive everyone at Chelsea after all.

I don't see either of them as leaders personally.

Not as the same ilk as JT but Cesc has already done it for Arsenholes. Hazard is captain of Belgium and I would say both lead on the pitch.

Cahill is a carbon copy of JT though, granted.
