Chelsea apparently owe East Stirling a game from 52 years ago

Featured Replies

Chelsea ‘look into’ East Stirling's Stamford Bridge friendly demand CHELSEA are considering a stunning request from East Stirling to honour a 52-year-old agreement to play a friendly at Stamford Bridge.

League Two minnows Shire got in touch with Jose Mourinho’s Premier League giants after discovering that one of the conditions attached to the transfer of defender Eddie McCreadie to Chelsea in 1962 remains unfulfilled.

Ex-Scotland international McCreadie went south for a fee of £5,000 plus home and away games between the clubs.

Tommy Docherty brought the London side north to Firs Park in October 1963 for a game that ended 2-2. However the return meeting never happened.

The arrangement was long forgotten about until Shire chairman Tony Ford recently came across the documentation for McCreadie’s transfer, and he has since contacted Chelsea to ask them to fulfil the contractual obligation.

Ford said: “As far as we can tell, it is still a legally binding agreement that sets out the terms of the transfer.

“Chelsea came to our old home of Firs Park. However we are certain that the second game never took place. If you do not ask you do not get, so I sent Chelsea letter pointing out that we are due a game at Stamford Bridge. They have got back in touch and said that they will look into it.

“I am not sure if a game against us was in Mr Mourinho’s pre-season plans, but you never know!â€

I hope this actually happens, I love when we do stuff to help out small clubs. :)

What harm would it do? Infact it would be a nice little warm up/earner for the club. I cant remember the last time that Chelsea had a pre season home game.

I say do it, it'll give them some revenue which should always be considered I feel (or we could end up like Scotland) as it'll allow them to build even if it's just a player or 2.

Yeah it's not as money spinning as Asia or America but charity starts at home. It'll be a nice warm up for some of the youth & non-WC players.

I couldnt agree more Gem. It will be a nice day out for them and for us it will give Jose the chance to take a look at maybe some of the youngsters or the returning loan players and help decide on what to do with them next season.

It'd be a nice gesture if we did play them. After all, we did get a club great off them in return. I wonder why the match was never played.

Seems a good excuse to post this again:

I also think it would be a nice gesture, although I think playing it up there would be better for them even if we did send a reserve team.

It would be even better if the club could persuade McCreadie to come back and be introduced to the crowd at SB. Apparently we've asked him back a few times and he's always turned us down.

Club could easily oblige, just us under 21s or something.

I wouldn't have thought it would happen this year, all the friendlies are lined up already for 1st and youth teams. Myabe next year.

No harm in doing it, but I think it would be seen in poor taste if we just sent out the reserves

Sending out first teamers would see us bully them to be honest, they're a mid table team in the Scottish League 2! I would like to see an early pre season match where players return from their loan spells and get a match for us.

Well we could do what Galatasaray did against Shrewsbury last year - just give the big names a bit on a run out in the second half - though I'm not sure that Drog actually broke into a run!

Surely E Stirling want gate money shares, and people would pay if they knew they would see top players, not so much if it was the ressies

Perhaps if a huge percentage went to see the reserves in a competitive game we would get less of, " lets buy him he's great, only 20mill"

& more clamoring to get the reserves into the first team.

I don't think there is a shortage of people who think the academy is an answer to all problems the club has ever faced on the pitch.

It was then that he lost his job in somewhat bizarre circumstances. Having won promotion, his request for a company car was rejected by chairman Brian Mears, so he resigned. Mears then relented and offered him the car but with his sense of Scottish pride he did not come back to the club as he had already made his mind up.

Let's do it and present him with a Fiat Punto before kickoff.
