January 2, 201511 yr Very good point about him wanting to play prolonged minutes even at this point in his career, although I think it's largely due to Rodgers and Liverpool's current predicament with their squad make-up - in other words they just don't have enough quality to afford resting Gerrard for any long spells of time. I still maintain that, wet surfaces aside (!), he can be a very useful player if used sparingly and only starting sporadically for a title-challenging squad, like what Ferguson did with Giggs and Scholes in the twilight of their careers, though obviously that's not the case at the moment with Liverpool. All that said it will be very interesting to see where he ends up. He completely deserves a couple of sunshine years in the MLS, although he would have been a great player to have coming off the bench for the last half hour, although I don't think he wants that, or it could be that he's just tired of the endless 'transitional periods' that we keep on hearing about for too many years now. If I was him I wouldn't be interested in sticking around to play alongside allegedly 'great potential' or overpriced crap. Greatest Liverpool player I've watched, and I started going regularly around 78/79 and have seen plenty of players to pick from. Could also be that despite all the public flannel that he isn't too fussed on BRods way about things. I'm quite sure that BRod will see himself as the long-term manager, but there will be plenty of clamour for Gerrard to step up once he ends his playing career, and maybe BRod isn't too upset that Gerrard's moving on at this time. Leaves him with greater sway at the club. For sixteen years though he's virtually had to carry the team single handedly, playing along side some of the biggest dross big money could buy. The two seasons, 08/09 and 13/14, he had genuine quality alongside him resulted in the closest we've come to winning the PL. Edited January 2, 201511 yr by Mr Pink
January 2, 201511 yr Any idea Mr Pink about what happens at a post-Gerrard LFC? For all the flak that Gerrard gets, he will be a big loss. Are LFC now in a re-building phase? I saw a piece today where Rodgers was linked to buying another winger. Will that worry fans as the LFC defence is a concern?

To be honest it looks a bit bleak to me, but it always does when the main man moves on. This time we don't seem to have a fallback plan. I think Can has masses of potential, but needs to be played in there now. Now we know Gerrard is moving on start the rebuild now. As for a right winger we do look very narrow at times and i think we could do with that changing, but I would prefer a new keeper as the first buy.

You say he has carried the club but there's also a possibility he has held you back the last few years being undroppable and far too influential at the club.
January 2, 201511 yr You're right. No offence but that lad Jones isn't ready for the level he's playing at. Can looks good. Toure has impressed me when he's played. I don't know if there are age/fitness issues but he should play more.
January 2, 201511 yr Off topic (ish). Robert Huth is being investigated by the FA for "gender tweets" AKA he was playing a game of "Cock or No Cock" where he was being shown pictures of women/transsexuals and guessing which one they were. Funny and harmless or offensive and worthy of a charge? Thoughts?

I don't know if there are age/fitness issues but he should play more. Jones couldn't make it as the number 1 when he was at Boro, and he's done ok in the past when he's stepped in, but also produced some howlers as well. Not good enough to be first choice keeper. I like Toure but he's a bit hit and miss. I was away yesterday and missed the match but my mate said Sakho was very good. He's been improving of late. To be fair I don't think its all doom and gloom. We have produced some pretty good performances without Gerrard in the team, just think we need some stability, with players being played in their favoured positions for regular spells to give them a chance at becoming established instead of constant changes.

January 2, 201511 yr unbelievable that they're bothering to investigate something like this in my opinion. Perfectly typical of the F.A.
January 2, 201511 yr My Liverpool supporting brother-in-law is genuinely worried that without Gerrard they will have no leaders on the pitch. Must say I can't see any natural leaders in the Liverpool squad at the moment. Despite how much I enjoy making fun of the love affair with Stevie G, I have to agree that he will be very hard to replace...

January 2, 201511 yr Already claims that the Gerrard deal will see him loaned back to Liverpool. I am not sure if this is true, or if it's just people coming up with stories to try and lift the heart's of despondent Liverpool fans; however, if this is true then the MLS is going to become a mockery of a League if the Premiership is merely loaning top, aging players out to them only to snap them back until they're truly no longer of any value.

January 3, 201511 yr Gerrard is just leaving Liverpool, right? He's not actually dead or something is he ? The outpouring of grief from sky and BBC is nauseating.
January 3, 201511 yr Gerrard is just leaving Liverpool, right? He's not actually dead or something is he ? The outpouring of grief from sky and BBC is nauseating. Actually we need to thank him, especially Mourinho. He did his job for him. Everybody is now talking about him leaving the scousers, not that we lost 5-3 to spuds.
January 3, 201511 yr Ledg, I'm not sure Mourinho or the rest of the Chelsea boys needed a criticism diversion for a bad defeat, Mourinho has big enough balls to take it like a man, I'm guessing Mourinho viewed that defeat the equivalent of merely getting shot down by a 9/10 chick on the bus in front of a bunch of laughing grannies and gran dads, As he walks off the bus, It's a simple 'Oh well, I'll get over it'. If anything, You could argue the announcement could have been a tactic by Liverpool to deflect attention off their shocking 2-2 capitulation against Leicester and the fact they got the softest of penalties or maybe an attempt to steal the thunder from Spurs, Who are now right in the mix for 3rd/4th place along with United, Southampton and Arsenal. January 3, 201511 yr The discussion of "is Gerrard the best player not to have won the league" is such a strange one. It's almost trying to justify his career somehow... I don't understand what the discussion hopes to achieve, it's a huge void on his CV and the best players would generally win a league title.
January 3, 201511 yr Steven Gerrard is to release a book about his career at Liverpool Football Club. As of yet, the book has no title. I'm here all week!
January 3, 201511 yr Lads, what do you think of Ched Evans' case? I consider rape the worst crime with murder BUT the man already did his sentence, didn't he. If the years he did are not enough he should sit some more because it looks he is not going to be let live his life and do his job.. I know it is not as black and white with rape-cases but this case seems to be in the papers all the time.

I don't understand what the discussion hopes to achieve, it's a huge void on his CV and the best players would generally win a league title. Some great players haven't ever played at a World Cup. Is that down to them?It can't just be down to the individual, and that's where Liverpool as a club have failed him. After the 2005 CL win we should have signed a couple of big names but as usual we failed to do so, even dithered with Gerrards future to the point that he came close to leaving. Gerrard couldn't win the league on his own, there's got to be a greater collective contribution and too many Liverpool players past and present failed to step up, and I'd include Torres in that list for a large part of his time with us. Having said that it really is a pointless idea, the greatest player not to win the league. Who cares. Gerrard certainly won't want that 'distinction'. Edited January 3, 201511 yr by Mr Pink

I wouldn't have any sympathy if FIFA/UEFA banned him for life. Edited January 3, 201511 yr by the special one
January 3, 201511 yr I can see Gerrard going to LA Galaxy. Once he retires fully he'll end up doing a few years as a pundit like Carragher, can put money on it.
