No. But he also hasnt just sold a huge fans favourite in Mehdi Benatia. Nor been as concrete and adamant as Roma's president was.

He did sell fan favourites David Luiz and Juan Mata though and drop club legend Petr Cech.

Seems more to me that Jose is nailing his colours to the mast that he wants Destro and if that cannot happen now he will try again for him in the future.

Jose Mourinho has praised the talent of Mattia Destro amid reports the Chelsea manager is lining the Roma striker up as a replacement for the AC Milan-bound Fernando Torres.

Spain international Torres finally agreed a deal with the Serie A giants on Friday and rumours suggest Mourinho could be set to reunite with Italian frontman Destro.

The 23-year-old rose through the ranks at Inter Milan and Mourinho believes he saw the signs of a “top striker” during his time as coach at the San Siro.

Destro was plying his trade as an under-21 player during Mourinho’s time with Inter but struggled to break into the club’s first team, prompting a move to Roma where he has once again caught the eye of the Chelsea boss.

"Mattia was a kid when I was at Inter. I think he was like 18. He was playing the Primavera team, our under-21s, training with us so many times."

“Everyone knew at the club that his potential was there to be a top striker. He was unlucky because we had Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Adriano, then Samuel Eto’o, Diego Milito.

“So it was not easy for him to come into the first team. The ones that got the chance were Davide Santon and Giulio Donati.”

Torres’ three-year spell at Stamford Bridge is expected to end soon with the striker set for a medical in Milan on Saturday and the completion of his reported two-year loan deal could pave the way for Mourinho to recruit another forward before Monday’s transfer deadline.

I assume Destro was our first choice replacement but Roma wouldn't sell.  We may go back in for him next summer, especially if Drogba retires.

That's how I feel about it. Just hope that he hasn't moved to another big club by the time we go in to get him. We need Ashley to be putting the seed in his head. Imagine a brainwashing scene like in 'a clockwork orange', a clip reel filled with our biggest achievements.

Don't think we need a Destro now. With Costa and Remy, I'd be more than happy with Bamford as third choice next season (assuming his loan goes well).

Could be an option for sure, one I'd be happy with if as you say assume Bamford's loan move goes well.

I'd love to get Destro. From what I've seen, he's a player who's eager to impress after some troubles earlier in his career. However, wouldn't want another striker put ahead of Bamford in the future...

Wouldn't be surprised if we chase him if he's still at Roma in the Summer though, given that Mourinho seemed to like him last Summer.

Not too keen personally. Would prefer lacazette or dybala, or if we wanted to replace drogba with someone with good physical presence, then I'd be happy with benteke.

As long as it's mourinho's first choice though then il be more than happy to back the manager, but i haven't seen a great deal of anything special from destro.

I like Destro, he works hard and he works hard to score goals, has a good spirit. I liked him before he went to Roma, he's was a skillfull player who always had a knack for scoring he was like a Edinson Cavani.

 

Lacazette looks like a good player to be fair, as for Dybala I recognize the name but it's just not coming to mind, I think he plays in Serie A?
