Ruben Loftus-Cheek

Featured Replies

So were saying an 18 year old midfielder who has just broken into the 1st team has poor tactical understanding? Well I never.

As for the lazy thing, I said in another thread a while ago he will get this label as his style is very laid back and smooth, rather than the charge around headless chicken style preferred in the prem by some. He covers the ground superbly, gets up and down well.

If this was the case, like Mikel, Mourinho and I wouldnt have a problem with his game. The Kid is just plain lazy. I dont want to say arrogant because I dont think he is, but what I saw against NYRB was shocking to say the least.

He is still very young and developing both physically and as a footballer. People scream for youth to be given a chance, well those same people need to show a lot of patience when they are integrated in.

Traore is his age mate and no one has attacked Traore. Its not about Youth, its about a player who is either lazy or to arrogant to understand that he needs to work hard. As for being tactically deficient, I am not going to blame him because the Youth coaches are to blame there.

2 games and questioning him is no the way to go. He has came straight pout of youth football where the pace and pressure is astronomically less, of course it will take him months to get up to speed.

I hope he changes. Trust me, i truly hope so. But if he doesnt change very soon, Mourinho will move him out quicker than you can say "hey!" i have followed Mourinho for years and one thing he hates is laziness. He despises it and he doesnt have patience for laziness.

I want to reiterate one thing i said earlier. The fans are part of the problem! Their fear to criticize thier favorite players, especially youth players, is the reason many English players are overrated! You hear a player like Barkely is worth 50 million and this is a player that is pretty much average at the moment. Its because ENglish fans sing and sing and sing the sweetness of their players names an are unable to be honest about their players. Anyone watching Loftus-cheek with honesty will tell you that the kid is in trouble if he doesnt step up and quick. This is not Bolton.

For all we know Jose could have told him not to go wrecking himself. Judge him in a game that actually matters a damn.

So Jose will tell Oscar, Mikel, Matic, Ramires and the likes to wreck themselves, but tell the "golden goose" not to wreck himself??? Are you kidding me? Why are fans afraid to say the truth?

Who said that, you absolute spanner ?

Its a valid concern, he has always been critized for being a bit lazy. I remember several times he was yanked for the youth team for not working hard enough and drifting out of games. The excuse at the time was that he was so talented and it was no longer a challenge for him. Now he moved up a level and Mourinho felt his attitude on the pitch was bad enough to give him a lashing. He is certainly a kid who knows how to say the right things, time will tell if he knows how to DO the right things.

Thank you for being honest. Nothing wrong in being an honest and saying the truth. Criticism does not mean you hate someone, it actually means you want someone to succeed. I hope for his sake, the people around him sit him down and advise him. At a top club like chelsea, you dont have months to change. You have days! I know thats sad, but thats the life of a big club because there are players there who are so much better than you, but also work twice as hard. Who do you think the coach is going to select?

My view is RLC was always one bad game away from a rollicking, I think Jose sees it as a must part of his education. He must learn to take criticism and deal with it. And we don't want him thinking he's made it before he actually has, like so many young talents today

I am waiting for the rollicking of Zouma and Traore.

You're calling him lazy based on a pre season friendly when we've been back training a week? As Zola said, what a spanner.

At 19 RLC has got time to change and has a matter of years, not days to do it in. He has 3 years according to Jose's statements on youth until he is deemed as a mature player, and that's when he should be judged as a player whether this period is done in and around the first team or on loan it doesn't matter he has a lot of development to come as a player. But yes of coarse if he wants to be a first team regular he would need to instantly improve his game (and not just his work rate everything would need a massive upgrade) and that's physically impossible, improvements to your game take time and Jose along with the majority of people in the world of football know this and clearly Jose thinks very highly of him and his talents so he obviously doesn't see it as a long term problem every young player has a few kinks they need to knock out.

is 'being honest' another way of saying 'agreeing with me'? slagging off a young player for laziness in the first pre-season friendly, played half-way around the world and after only 1 week's training seems hasty at best, plain ignorant at worst. the lad is young as is therefore not used to the demands of first team football, or the demands of a full pre-season training schedule. give the boy a chance. against liverpool last season he earned rave reviews from everyone as his performance was very good. young players have off-games, and struggle with the pace of first-team football to begin with. its not a big deal.

I do get the sense that you are being overly-critical on purpose, perhaps to demonstrate your superior football knowledge to others on this forum. I don't think you are likely to get the adulation you are seeking though. leave the analysis until later in the season, or better still, leave it to the professionals

Pogba is defensively lazy yet José and many of our fans rate him highly, so to target RLC is unfair. We don't know what José tells him behind the scenes.

I respect your position, but I am more inclined to believe Mourinho who disagrees with you. This is one of the reasons many young kids fail! Fans love them so much and want them to be a success that fans try to ignore the obvious for fear of criticizing them. It was the same reason Mourinho was roundly attacked for saying the truth about Reuben! "How dare you criticize our jewel." It does the young player no service.

Fair enough. Not gonna argue spacing vs positional awareness vs tactics. But I very much doubt every member of the squad has a mandate to do something specific every time they are on the ball. Generally Im sure they are given instructions on how best to approach getting at a defense or how to exploit weaknesses but having wingers who cut inside is more down to the player IMO than any system. He may favor ball playing CBs or that type of winger but thats not a system to me.

Are people actually writing off one of the most talented players that's come through our youth system in recent years based on 4 first team appearances and a couple of friendly games?

That is just utterly ridiculous

You're calling him lazy based on a pre season friendly when we've been back training a week? As Zola said, what a spanner.

You didnt read my post., clearly. I clearly stated tat every game he has played, he has been lazy. Even the liveprool game he got praised for.

Perhaps, thats why he will go on loan, were he wil take the next two years to learn how to be hardworking.

Jose clearly said the feeling has changed. Those are Jose's words. Also, do you notice that RLC has not been given a senior number like Traore has?

I guess the liverpool game, the west brom games were also pre-season games played half-way around the world. LOL.

And what is your own reason for putting the player on a pedestal he does not deserve?

I dont think i should even respond to this lie.

Like i said, the usualy "how dare you criticize our golden goose?" How dare you! How??!

smh. this is the problem. Fans tell a player so much lies and the player begins to believ his own hype. God forbid, Ruben will NOT fail, but if he does, You realy think Think Ruben is the first talented player to fail? There are hundreds of players, HUNDREDS!! who are 1 million times more talented than Ruben but failed due to attidude. Look at Mido! Look at Taraabt! Mutu! Babayaro! Adriano,... just to name a few.. They were all much more talented than Ruben, but look at their careers. I will even add Ronaldinho and Kluivert

I truly pray Ruben never ever listens to fans like you because truth is, you can be the most talented player in the world, but if you have a poor work ethic, you will never make it.

What are you worried about ? It's not like we just spent £50m on him and have to play him. There is no hiding place in this league, certainly not at this club, and definitely not under Mourinho's nose.

Chill out and watch to see if he can prove you wrong, don't be knocking him just yet.

Is this that bloke who kept saying "smh" back again?

Define "lazy" in a footballing sense.

No... no they weren't, they were Premier League games. Or was that sarcasm?

And I dont think that saying he had a good game against Liverpool is 'putting him on a pedastal'. If you want to view our young talent with negativity then go for it, I just dont understand what possesses you to post at least 15 posts insisting that he is lazy, has a bad attitude, underperformed etc. It seems a bit obsessive and highly unnecessary

I'm writing off based on I dont think he is good enough from what I've seen of him as a whole, and again, i'd love him to prove me wrong in that.

Just a feeling.

Been reading the thread over the last few days and thought I would chip in with my thoughts.

1) Rubén is undoubtedly an extremely talented lad, probably the best we have seen for some time physically and technically.

2) I thought defensively against Liverpool he showed a lot f maturity but did get caught out at times which is of course natural.

3) having been on nights Weds I watched the entire game and thought he did ok. People saying he was lazy I would challenge who didn't? Allegedly we had a double session prior, the GK (least physical pos on pitch ) was struggling. Rubén played in the no10 role that game and as such didn't have as much responsibility defensively, however I agree he didn't press nearly as high as I would have liked

To sumarise this is an exceptional talent who will only get better. I believe that he gets caught out mainly due to lack of concentration , this level is a million miles away from YTS and so are the players. This concentration level will improve with consistent games against top opposition. Finally to whoever compared him with Mido, Mutu and Babayaro, I will have what you're drinking
