Chelsea fans racially abuse a man on the Paris Metro

Featured Replies

First off I must apologise for not being able to restore the thread I deleted, threads that are deleted normally go into a sub-forum that we can move back (at least that’s what it looked like from other threads in there) but I have been reliably informed by Mod that that isn’t the case - it’s gone.

To summarise how the thread initially started; every single Shed Ender was abhorred by the actions of the individuals who were seen to racially abuse the man on the Metro in France. There were of course some differing opinions on if it was a ‘set up’ or not, but the majority took it for as it looked and pretty much conveyed pure disgust towards these people who have been described as Chelsea ‘fans’.

In future I’ll lock threads and delete the childish, threatening posts and personal attacks and not the entire thread. Again I am really sorry I’ve somehow managed to remove it completely from the forum. There were certainly more insightful posts than abusive ones that are now lost, completely my fault.

We’re not RAWK, we don’t put our fingers in our ears and pretend something hasn’t happened/isn’t happening when it looks bad against us. Hopefully we can continue the discussion without the attacks towards each other – and I’ll stay away from the moderating options.

Again??!!

Truth is that the vast, vast majority of members outright condemned the actions of these morons. That was almost universal.

Some criticised the person filming because he might not have gone to the police first. That's not something worth arguing in my opinion.

Can't pretend there wasn't a tiny amount of criticism of PC and drawing false comparisons with other incidents.

But everyone was united in disavowing a tiny, tiny number of idiots who dragged this club's name through the mud.

No Gem you were right to do what you did .

In this modern age the site is monitored and used for journalist reference material and no doubt by the club to gauge fans feelings on relevant topics.

As users perhaps we should all be aware that we are representing Chelsea on this site , personal attacks and vicious insults are just as bad as the incident in question. You will not agree with everything said but taking it down 4 levels from debate to cyber bulling is just wrong in my opinion.

I think all the mods are fair and level headed on the site , incredibly unpaid work and thank you from me

In fairness the thread had got a bit sh*t anyway.

It had moved away from the incident itself and was more about what was and wan't racist with a fair few arguments and personal insults for good measure.

Oh Gem, you poor thing.  And well done for putting your hands up, and saying it was your fault.  But it wasn't your fault.  It's bloody technology's fault!  You should be able to take a rubber to the screen, get rid of the bits you don't want, and hey presto!

Excellent job you did of summarising.

Perhaps now that time has elapsed, people might like to express their views on Metrogate in a clam reasoned way.

The thread was fine, certain posters were sh*t!

Only takes a few rotten apples and all that.

The first 30 pages or so of that thread were an interesting discussion, it's a shame it takes for something so disgusting to happen but some of the best threads on this forum happen when there's been a major event (a nice diplomatic way of putting it).

But that particular thread started to descend into generally pettiness and the few decent comments were being drowned out by the waves of sh*t (two water related metaphors for the price of one there).

I'm not sure what more could be said about the events in Paris at this point, I think everyone had their say and for the most part that thread was something for the Shed End and Chelsea fans to be proud of.

Well done Gem, and I think it's right that we have these type of discussions - just that we try to maintain a grown up stance and stop acting like kids in the playground.

Perfectly innocent mistake Gem. Of course if it happens again I am reducing your kit Kat rations.

Just to let people know that action, in keeping with our normal rules and responses, has been taken against certain contributors to the original thread. I'd rather leave it at that.

Sensitive topic I know and one which certainly merits discussion but let's keep the heads folks.

Interesting article here on how the incident was reported in the media ect

Really interesting. There are stats that open this up, white working class boys form the group that has the most underachievement according to education tables and so on.

Thank goodness things seem to be acted upon more quickly these days than the time it took to deal with the violence described.

Wow, that is a very good article!

Let’s agree: those Chelsea fans are bigoted morons and racism has no place in today’s corporate-friendly game, just like a Villa fan being kicked into a likely coma has no place either. But most level-headed football fans saw this for what it was: a few meatheads that in no way represent the vast majority of decent fans.

Absolutely hits the nail on the head.

The Chelsea racist incident didn’t just expose racism. It shone a light on something equally ugly, too: a class snobbery from a self-appointed intelligentsia who have a deep-rooted hatred of white, working-class men.

Not to worry, that deep-rooted hatred is very much reciprocated!

I did post this already but one thing i've learnt about the media from this incident regarding Chelsea is. ''They hate us, They hate us'' and that's the way they like it.

just back from tenerife and have not seen the film of the incident until now. the idiots chanting should of really known better but i can see why some are saying it looked set up because the carriage was packed and no one else but that geezer wanted to get on!! where were the gendarmes? this reminds me of the time when those masked sporting fans got on at boardway chanting chelsea are **** right in front of us but we did nothing because there were families around us and the cops did zilch on the platform except letting them on!

'Chelsea fans' in new train racism probe

British Transport Police said it was called to meet the train at Stoke-on-Trent on Sunday and asked four men to leave. Four more left of their own accord, they said.

Passengers had claimed the abusive fans were Chelsea supporters, police said.

A club representative said they were aware of the reports.

"It's not yet clear if any Chelsea supporters were involved but if they were we will, of course, be assisting the British Transport Police with their inquiries," they said.

The investigation follows allegations of racism involving Chelsea supporters on the Paris Metro in February.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: "Shortly after 22:30 GMT, officers were called to meet a London Euston to Manchester Piccadilly train at Stoke, following reports of racist and abusive behaviour by a number of passengers, said to be football fans.

"Colleagues from Staffordshire Police also attended.

"We have spoken to two witnesses, and investigations continue."

Chelsea were celebrating victory over Tottenham in the Capital One Cup final on Sunday.

Jose Mourinho

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho said he was "ashamed" of the events in Paris

Chelsea suspended five supporters following their own investigation into the Paris Metro incident, when a commuter identified in media reports as French-Mauritian Souleymane S, was blocked from boarding a train by fans travelling to a Champions League match.

Footage captured by a bystander appeared to show Souleymane being pushed back on to the platform amid chants of "We're racist, we're racist and that's the way we like it".

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho said he was "ashamed" of the events in Paris while owner Roman Abramovich was said to be "disgusted".

Surely not..

Disgusting "news" report there from the BBC. Absolutely garbage, sensationalist journalism without any factual proof (yet at least) that this incident had anything to do with Chelsea. Pure slander.

They don't care about getting any proof, all they care about is trying to get a bit of controversial news.
