Chelsea in for Falcao?

Featured Replies

"Monaco want a £5 million loan fee for striker Falcao and negotiations have been taking place with Chelsea over exactly how the transfer could be structured.

Should Falcao succeed during a season-long loan at Chelsea, then Monaco want a written agreement that the Blues would have to pay £35m to sign him permanently."

35m for someone who will be going downhill fast is crazy.

There is no way Chelsea would sign him for that amount even if he succeed during loan season.

£35 million for what would be a 30 year old has been with a f**ked up knee lol.

Aye ok Monaco ya deluded muppets.

Only if the loan is successful. I don't think anyone cares about the 30m£ when he get's back to his level.

He actually came back from his injury remarkably trouble free but suffered at united. Some want to blame that on an entirely 'f**ked up' knee (clearly a medical term) whilst others look at the system that Van Gaal employed which didn't play to any of Falcao's strengths (or Van Persie's for that matter).

But my opinion is that players can absolutely recover from these types of injuries and the joint is as good as it was before (reinjury rates are no higher than the injury rates for 'immaculate' knees are they?) So for me it's more of a footballing issue.

Can José get the best out of him and does our system suit him better?

He will never get back to that level.

You don't have 18 months of being bang average then all of a sudden turn the clock back....that's just fantasy

Then he'll leave and we'll not have to pay them 35m£. Whats the problem?

Signing a busted flush in the first place.

I'm still hopeful it doesn't happen, will be the biggest waste of money since Torres.

United are desperate for a striker and they couldn't get him out the door quick enough....I wonder why?....

That he might prove some people wrong?

According to Duncan Castles (who has a patchy record) Jose is driving this one and thinks he can do what Van Gaal couldn't. If the deal is right then it could be a masterstroke.

I agree he seems to have lost his touch, but to say he will never ever be any good again is a bit hasty. Could be right, yes, obviously, but let's not throw his career down the pan already

Just to put a positive spin on this, Ruud van Nistelrooy had knee troubles, in an out for spells....Then totally ruptured his knee ligaments and was out for a year.

Utd signed him on a 5 year deal upon his return to fitness........he scored 150 goals in 219 games before being sold to Madrid

He was quite young when he suffered his injury wasn't he?

Falcao as a player has most likely already peaked and so he's not going to get any better and you'd expect his performances to begin to decline like most strikers who are 30+

The question is, does his knee injury exacerbate his decline?

Van Nistelrooy's game was hardly dependent on physicality either, it was more about being clinical and having a knack of always being in the right place at the right time.

Falcao is not exactly a physical player.... he's tiny

Even if Falcao optimistically reduces his wage demands by half from 15m a year to 7.5m that's still a cost of 14.5m for a year's loan incl. the 7m loan fee. And that's for a 29 year old player coming off the back off a serious injury and an unconvincing season.

How does this make sense under FFP? Sounds like a lot of money that could be better invested elsewhere. But then I'm not a football accountant...

Lots of talk about his knee but isn't that what a medical is for? We could agree a deal and then he fails the medical?

I think its happening personally, but I'll have to wait and see.

If he comes and is completely knackered then I'll be so jealous. I'd love to spend some time with the lovely Dr Eva!! Lol

Torres passed the medical after his injury.

They might be fit enough to pass them but when the injury takes away that spark from your game that won't show up in a medical.

Initially I was completely against the idea of Falcao joining us. However, in recent days, Dybala and Icardi have gone off the market, which leaves Benteke and possibly also Higuain as the only other viable alternatives. Personally I’d like Benteke, but I reckon he would want guaranteed first-team football which he would not get with us. I’m not too sold on Higuain, I have my doubts as to whether he could hack the physicality of the PL.

Bamford will obviously go out on loan, so that then leaves Falcao. IF he really is willing to take a significant paycut, and if the terms of the deal are a 1 year loan with no obligation to buy at the end of it, then perhaps it might be worth taking the risk. I guess only time will tell, I’m very doubtful.

Would like to have him personally. He didn't get the goals for United, but he was looking much better towards the end of the season. Think United might regret letting him go.

Worth a punt IMO.

Not for the money being discussed. You can't be taking a "punt" on 30m+

From Twitter:

@tancredipalmeri: Chelsea and Falcao reached agreement on principles on loan+option to buy. Main issue now are conditions that Mendes wants to trigger option

I like positive spins!

Reckon he could still do a very good job, and if he does join, will do well for us. He didn't suit Utd. One bad season and he is widely considered a write-off, but i'm not so sure.
