i remember seeing that buying a japanese player was part of the terms of the sponsorship agreement with yokahoma tyres

I'd imagine so.

Hopefully if it does happen he get's papped off to Holland or something and doesn't steal a place from the likes of Bamford.

Seems a waste of funds to me.

22 and playing in a piss poor league and the fact hardly any Asian player makes it in European football.

No doubt just a PR stunt to shift more shirts and expand the brand further out but still feels pretty meh.

Possibly could make a massive amount of money off him playing for us though so could turn out to be a decent investment in terms of a business.

Maybe so (although I doubt we have any clue how much he would sell in shirts and if that would cover the fee).

It’s however everything I hate about modern day football, signing a guy purely based on matters outside of the park, also filling up space one of our own products could be taking.

I understand why it is done but I’m pretty much against these things as it adds ziltch to the team I watch IMO.

I'm sure this would be a financially astute move, and I'll wait to see how this pans out, but I'd be frustrated if he takes one of the (limited) spaces in our first team and doesn't cut it.

With you there mate, just shows its all about the money

People take these kind of signings way to seriously like "its the end for Bamford etc". He will be loaned out loaned out and then loaned out. If he is any good we may make a nice profit on him.

Can't speak for anyone else but the thing that concerns me with this sort of deal is that it'd surely be expected that he'd be part of the first team (regardless of whether he's ready or proven in a competitive league)?

I'm not saying it's going to happen - it's just that if this sort of deal is for the purpose of branding in Japan, shirt sales etc. why would we put a "marquee" signing on loan?

Edit:

Just seen big blue answered that exact point above:

Probably do the preseason tour of Asia each season for the next 4 years, while heading out to vitesse each year.

Issue resolved, I'll get my coat!

No.

Better than Nato though? If Chelsea sign him it'll be a wash and probably a profit through shirt sales. Not much though because the Japanese are not exactly stupid and know why Chelsea signed him. This is marketing for Yokohama and the fact they paid top dollar for the sponsorship, why not? Sadly, this is the sport now. Try and profit as much as you can to meet FFP. Next up will be managers selling their daughters and sons to the slave trade to profit.
