Yoshinori Muto of FC Tokyo

22 year old international going on loan without a trial? Damn, that's a waste of time for both parties. Even if he scores 20 goal on loan, what's the chance he will get a spot in the new Chelsea team? We will take a picture of him wearing the jersey and send him the other way, I'm afraid.

Next up will be managers selling their daughters and sons to the slave trade to profit.

That's not such a bad thing; jose jnr is a mouthy little sod anyway.

Pretty sure we are all of the same opinion in that he will be paraded around Japan on a pre-season tour, do the "I'm so happy to have signed for chelsea" interview on chelsea tv, and then unquestionably be shifted out on loan somewhere in Europe.

Another poster raised the point that signing a Japanese player was a condition of the sponsorship deal and I read something similar, trying to find the link now.

Who knows, perhaps he can become another bargain? He might slot in perfectly, you never know.

Unlikely though - Last time it happened... Dave?

At 4mil it won't I don't see the problem with this being 'about the money'. If he's a financial success for Chelsea - great. If he actually performs and gets near the team - even better.

If its true that he's left winger then sign him as back up for Hazard who pretty much plays every game anyway. If Hazard gets injured then Willian/Cuadrado can cover in the big matches.

Who knows, this guy might come good.  If he stays and gets a few runs in the team, with no pressure, he may provide us with a good bit of back-up.

However, as the majority are saying, he will probably be paraded around and then shipped off on loan never to be seen again.

I'm convinced this whole thing is been done to raise the brand in Japan. He will probably play in a shirt on either a pre or post season tour of Japan and if will probably never play for us in the PL. It's a pure business decision.

Sign of the times in modern day footy..... if the club isn't taking advantage of this sort of thing then its missing out on very easy money.... money that can be spent on players we at least have heard of and want haha.

I can't imagine Japanese fans are so stupid as to not realise he would only be signing as a marketing exercise though. They aren't surely all going to run out and buy shirts with his name on it.

José's press conference:

"That is modern football. It is modern management. In modern management you cannot close the door to a bit of commercial interests. But at the same time a football club is always a football club and a top club only has space for really good players or prospects. We would not bring in a player who does not have the capacity to perform or potential to do so."

Maya Yoshida currently plays for Southampton.

But I can't believe you forgot Shinji Kagawa. He was a better buy than Hazard ffs!

Oh yeah! He was pretty decent actually. Always thought he was South Korean for some reason

"I'm flattered by the offer but I'm in no position to get carried away,” Muto said last week. “I haven't decided if I want to go abroad yet. I'm not zeroing in on any one club. I want to think things through with an open mind."

Speaking to reporters on Sunday after scoring his fourth goal in five J.League appearances this season, a winner against Shonan Bellmare, Muto said: "I haven't come up with a decision yet."

He's doing well out here, scoring on Sunday and helping take FC Tokyo to the top of the league.

Personally I'd love to see him make it (Tokyo is my 2nd team), however it's a big step up, so we will have to wait and see.

Who was the last Japanese player to play in epl? Inamoto for arsenal right?

Nakata also played for Bolton I think.

Asked about a potential switch to London this summer after scoring the winner against Shonan Bellmare last week, Muto said: 'I want to think about it carefully.

'Where can I go to develop? A team that suits me, where I can play and develop. I'm thinking about that, and for now I just want to take my time and think it through.'

Real Zaragoza boss Ranko Popovic gave Muto his debut for FC Tokyo in July 2013 and he believes the pacey forward could be a big hit at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have failed in their attempt to sign Yoshinori Muto after the Japan international rejected an offer of a five-year contract.

Muto, 22, is now close to joining Mainz 05, who are understood to have agreed a fee of €3 million (£2.16m) with FC Tokyo.
