Who Gets A Winner’s Medal...?

Featured Replies

In case you were wondering...

As Chelsea close to within one win of the Premier League title, the next challenge that Jose Mourinho faces could be how to dish out the winner's medals.

The Blues 3-1 victory over Leicester on Wednesday means they will be crowned champions if they can defeat Crystal Palace in front of their home fans on Sunday.

Mourinho has used only 22 players during the campaign, which is the lowest of all Premier League clubs. And, since the title winners will receive a total of 40 medals, every player in the squad is in line to receive a token of their achievement.

Previously only players appearing in a minimum of 10 league games were entitled to a winner's medal, but a rule change last year brought the minimum number of games down to only five.

Only Mohamed Salah, who made three appearances before being loaned out to Fiorentina, and youngster Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who has only featured in a single game, have not played the required number of games.

However, since medals can be distributed at the discretion of the club, there is a chance that the highly rated youngster could taste his team-mate's success despite only playing a single minute of Premier League football after coming on as a substitute against Manchester City on January 31.

I think winning any title is a team effort. So even if you don't play enough games i think every person involved in the first team should get a winners medal, even if you haven't played a single minute. If you are part of the senior team, you should get a medal.

I think we should ship one over the Lampard as well. He kept us on our toes when he scored a few important goals for City and that ultimately didn't work in a negative way for us.

I said I didn't hate Gerrard but it is funny how he'll have played thousands of minutes of Premier League football for no winners medals and RLC would have played 1 minute for a medal (assuming he doesn't play again).

Don't forget the club may need a spare for Mourinho :-)

I reckon everyone will be expecting him to do the same - 40,000 fans at the Sunderland game each with catcher's mitts.

So in theory we could give medals to Lamps, Salah, Cole, Schurrle and Ferreira. Not saying we will but would shut the "classless chelsea" parade up once and for all.

We should send one to David Luiz. He almost single-handedly bankrolled the Fabregas and Diego Costa transfers.

Can we recall Marko Marin and give him a medal?

Marin 1-0 Gerrard.

edit: Actually now that I think about it, Ba deserves one for last years heroics.

Isn't there a difference between getting a medal and being down in the records as a champion? eg. Demba got a Europa League winners medal but he was cup tied so wasn't part of the squad.

So RLC getting a medal doesn't really mean much. I think the medical team deserves recognition though, it's some achievement that we've had the fewest injuries despite rotating the least.

You want the camera to zoom in on the medal on Eva's chest, don't you :-)

He deserves nothing - Marina deserves one for selling Luiz for a stupid amount of money, getting Torres off the books, selling Schurrle for a profit, selling Mata for a stupendous profit and getting Hazard to sign a new contract.

It's something we should be shouting from the rafters but oddly don't. We should be mightily proud that we have a woman in such a prominent position within the club, as she's arguably the most powerful woman in world football.

In fact despite what some people may think of our club we're incredibly progressive. Emenalo also deserves a medal for what he's done since coming in and despite certain ex-pros bleating about not being handed a job in football, here is a man who worked his way up from the bottom (even being ridiculed for coaching a girl's team) to a position of trust at one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Black or white, that's a remarkable achievement for any person.

Not forgetting of course Eva Carneiro too. Gender wasn't a question when appointing her as club doctor, she's certainly there on merit, look how few long term injuries the squad as a whole has suffered with her being at the club... I'm sure the Arsenal medical department look on in envy at our record.

Yep absolutely agree. Plus there's the likes of Andy Myers and Eddie Newton who are big parts of our academy.

Love that Jody is involved too (alongside Joe Edwards who also came through the club) because it just gives a real family feel to what is a massive worldwide club now. Even Bruce Buck is a Chelsea supporter. Honestly couldn't wish for more in terms of the people who are in control of this club.
