I'm too long in the tooth to celebrate or applaud that ass-hole...The only positive to be drawn from it is that Jose was proud of our fans applauding him, and that makes for an even better relationship with Jose.

He can have a go and play the victim as usual but with the type of fans that follow him around week in week out he has no right to criticise, it's one laughing at a player about a mistake in football but those Liverpool fans sing about Terry's mother and the Diego elephant man thing, so the man has a very short memory

He got abuse before and after and let's face it, he knew he was going to get it so fair play to him for playing. Yes it's his job but I doubt days like that make it fun.

Like I said, I think a very good player just got a moment's recognition after a decade of abuse.

Ultimately he lost. He slipped and cost them the title and he knows it.

Disappointed to see Loftus-Cheek get subbed after 60 minutes, although it looked to be the plan all along. Dominated Coutinho and played a lot better than Mikel who was on a yellow card. Delighted to see him start and put in a good shift though. Should be the first of many opportunities in the coming year.

Well said. Matic had to come on though, and it probably made sense to pair him alongside someone he's partnered in the past, particularly at that stage of the game. It's easy to forget just how good he is until he's not there.

Hoping we'll see a Loftus Cheek & Matic partnership from this start next week.

Yes there is every need for it.

Fair enough, it's your opinion and you're more than entitled to it. I just think there's a line between footballing abuse and insulting him and his family...If John Terry and Drogba can respect him as a person enough to go to Anfield for a charity match in his name, then I don't think he's really a 'vile ****'

Anyway, I think that makes it 2 goals against us in 40 now...Although with the own goal in the League Cup Final, the assist for Drogba in 2010, let alone Demba Ba...means we've come out rather well over the years!

I'm not particularly old but i'm an old school Londoner and ill never change. Thats just how I am proud and protective over my club and where I grew up and  probably that's offensive to the new generation thats offended by everything.

We are mad because he is our legend not Liverpools, look what he did for us in the Carling cup final, look at the assist he gave to Drogba in 2010 what sealed the title.

How dare you Gerrard, turn your back on us like that after all you did for us, you twat!

You'll never be forgotten though, Steven Gerrard, Chelsea legend!

I'd go so far as to say he is a LFC legend first, a CFC legend 2nd and a British football media legend 3rd. Can't really say he's done anything worthy of being a BPL or even England legend.

Edit: maybe a British football media legend 2nd, they do love him regardless of all he has done for CFC

Just back from the game...surprised we gave Gerrard a round of applause, but hey, after giving delightful stick for so m ya years, I joined in, fcuk it, he has provided me with some of my greatest chelsea memories...so after hearing on way back his comments, I wish we hadn't...for a supposedly classless club, thought we showed a lot of class...there is no way JT would get applauded off at Anfield in similar circumstances...more songs about scouse cum, which is far worse than any football related banter we give Stevie me

Ahhhh.

Found it. The volume is very low. I don't think it's as bad as people are making out. He's laughing when saying it as if in jest and absolutely adores Mourinho. Still don't like the guy however.

He is no dummy. He owes us no kind words and he knows any future he has in British football, media/fa/management, will require the diehard support he has with LFC fans. He isn't going to do anything that risks damaging it.

Actually like that he said he isn't going to bother thanking CFC fans for applause after getting slaughtered by them all game. Sometime I think modern players dare not have that edge and are to politically correct/kid gloves with their comments in front of the cameras...and it want even that edgy. I like blunt honest responses. Would want JT to echo similar sentiments in that position.

Edit: mind you if JT said it he'd be ungracious as opposed to Gerrard being loyal.

I have a grudging respect for Gerrard after listening to what he said about the applause.

Let's be honest, if he was one of our players we would love it if he had done the same thing for us. I applauded because, despite the fact I don't like him as a person, I admire the fact he has been a one club player and not a bad footballer to boot.

Some people on here are far too precious when it comes to CFC.

Gerrard got shocking abuse all game, like he always has done. Don't blame him for not thanking everyone for the applause which lasted 3 seconds.

He actually went up in my estimation after that. Fair play to him.

Just having a snoop on RAWK and found this:

"A 34 year old defensive midfielder who's off to play in the MLS next season, is our top scorer this season.

That's why we're fifth."

Sums it all up nicely

Great day out although would've preferred the win obviously. Brogans was bouncing and atmosphere in the first half was brilliant and the scousers were silent for most of the time. "No noise from the history boys" and obviously loads of songs about the league, champions, Gerrard etc. And no, I didn't f**king clap when he went off but I'm sort of glad others did as it made us look charitable to an olden at the end of his career who never won the league

Same here.. couldn't bring myself to clap him either (and after what he had to say after, i'm f**king glad i didn;t) but i joined in with the 'slippy' song straight after.. well it would have been rude not to..  ha ha

Loved taunting the scousers all game long.. great fun.

If that was shocking abuse, wonder how JT feels when he plays at Anfield

When he came over to take that corner it was brutal. But yes, only the same as JT gets everywhere.

I'm glad Gerrard didn't buy into the 3 second applause half the stadium gave him. Like I said he went up in my estimation for that.
