January 18, 201610 yr Brownie points for Van Gaal, Utd are turd but these wins buy him time and makes it harder for thr board to sack him. haha
January 18, 201610 yr Decent (albeit short) introductory article from a few years ago about new Swansea head coach Francesco Guidolin: http://www.football-italia.net/node/3261
January 18, 201610 yr The John Stones to Barcelona links have got to stop, He's good but as we've seen this year he's not actually all that.
January 18, 201610 yr The John Stones to Barcelona links have got to stop, He's good but as we've seen this year he's not actually all that. Barca don't tend to do top class CB's. Puyol still hasn't been replaced.
January 18, 201610 yr I can't see barca paying the 'homegrown premium' for stones, especially for more than laporte's buy our clause, who would be homegrown for them and arguably a bytes player. Would the king 'family club' be willing to accept a lower fee from a foreign team to keep stones away from big bad chelsea? I doubt it, the modric saga went a similar way.
January 18, 201610 yr If things stay the way they are, we are only 4 points above relegation. Scary. Yes but the whole midtable and below is pretty tight, if Watford win they go from 12th to 8th. If we go on a winning run we can shoot up the table rather quickly, we have to start to dominate games at some point but it's not working. I think it could be do or die in the transfer window now, we have to spunk some money to get some players in just to light a fire under everyones arses.
January 18, 201610 yr Saw this posted on redcafe (Anthony Martial's transfer contract): http://sport24.lefigaro.fr/le-scan-sport/business/2016/01/18/27004-20160118ARTFIG00182-le-contrat-du-transfert-d-anthony-marital-devoile-au-grand-jour.php Pretty interesting, never seen a transfer contract before, 50m euro basic with 30m add ons and Monaco get 50% of the profit on his transfer up to 100m euros. I'd always heard they had to pay the addons only if he won the Ballon D'or from United fans, but it turns out only 10m of the 30 is based on if he makes the list of nominees. (which could happen if he has one good season at a high profile club like United) The other 20m is based on him scoring 25 goals for United and making 25 international appearances which he should surely get, I think United will definitely pay at least the 70m out of 80m euro for him. I just can't see us going on a winning run, we don't seem capable of it. At this point, i wouldn't be surprised if we don't get anymore than 10 wins in the league this season.
January 18, 201610 yr The John Stones to Barcelona links have got to stop, He's good but as we've seen this year he's not actually all that. well they signed vermalen. lets be honest, with their attack and midfield, the defence doesn't need to be solid.

It's still early days under Guus and he's giving all players like Matic/Pedro/Ivan a chance to screw up before dropping them, we just got to hope that he will do so in time unlike Jose who just kept picking his favourites. At the moment there's still improvement, we're 'nearly' beating teams, but when Guus settles in fully and has his best 11 in mind, I think we can at least start beating teams we're meant to beat.
January 18, 201610 yr If it stays like this... Optimist inside me says if we beat Arsenal and Watford we could go above Watford. Pessimist says if we get 1 point from the next 2 games we could be in the thick of things (if not already!). What a season :/
January 19, 201610 yr Another amusing Davis Squires cartoon. http://www.theguardian.com/football/picture/2016/jan/19/david-squires-on-the-fascinating-weekend-of-football-fixtures-16-17-january Hank Scorpio
January 19, 201610 yr So it turns out our game against Swansea in April will be just a week off 18 years since our last encounter with Sig. Guidolin: http://web.archive.org/web/20040616081505/http://www.uefa.com/Competitions/ECWC/AllTimeStatistics/season=1997/Round=737/match=54822/index.html

A brilliant goal by Mark Hughes. Had a great view of it from the MHU. Edited January 19, 201610 yr by Boyne
January 19, 201610 yr Also I burst out laughing when I saw the headline 'Klose signs for Norwich' only to be disappointed (even if it is probably in reality a better signing): http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/35348350
January 19, 201610 yr Norwich have signed Steven Naismith. It's always good when a new player already knows the manager
January 19, 201610 yr ^ It seems they really liked each other. Naismith even closed his eyes, such a romantic moment.
January 19, 201610 yr found this quite humourous. http://www.stokesentinel.co.uk/Stoke-City-Lionel-Messi-8211-wet-Wednesday-night/story-28555772-detail/story.html
January 19, 201610 yr Mancini went on one heck of a rant after tonights game v Napoli, He claims the Napoli coach is a homophobe and racist who called him a 'poof' and a 'fa**ot' during tonights game when Mancini questioned the 4th official about the amount of stoppage time. http://www.football-italia.net/78626/mancini-sarri-racist-and-homophobe
January 19, 201610 yr Just read what the Napoli coach said and he said its possible he may have used homophobic language but adrenaline trips you up and makes you do things. I bet Pogba and Allegri are getting the cubans out right now, If this drives any sort of media frenzy onto the Napoli coach you watch how they implode and hand Juve the title now.
