John Stones

Be interesting to see if Stones were to submit a transfer request in order to force through a move.

Anyone remember if Luke Shaw did so at Southampton or at least publicly expressed a desire to move?

I disagree that Stones doesn't have the potential to be as good as Hazard, and apparently so does your manager judging by the amount he's willing to spend. He knows a defender when he sees one.

Well that clearly bollocks. Stones high price will be down to him being a young English player. that's it.

I do recall him saying he wanted to leave, don't think he put in a transfer request though.

He's never said he wanted to leave. He said he was looking forward to becoming a first team regular for us about two weeks ago, and hasn't said a single thing in the media since the bids came in.

Various media sources are saying 'Stones is believed to be interested in the move' or words to that effect, with no direct quotes.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure he is interested, it'd be almost a bit weird if he wasn't. He's definitely not a Suarez/Sterling type to kick up a fuss though, and demand a move or down tools. His level headedness is probably one of the reasons you want to buy him.

I think Stones will come to Chelsea because Everton have no history and we have loads of history so there.

just kidding.

What a silly comparison. If anything say he'll be as good as JT (which I highly doubt). Don't go comparing CBs to MFs.

Also if he weren't English he'd be worth a lot less.

I was talking about Shaw.

So on arriving to Chelsea Hazard had accumulated 147 games in Ligue 1 27 in europe and 194 games overall for Lille having scored 50 goals in that time. He also was a fully fledged international with around 30 caps, not to mention the best player award he had been award in France. Stones 54 caps for Everton and 4 for England.  So this is them at the same age. Hazard is now the best player in the BPL at 24 so not at his peak and is undoubtedly in the top 10 players in the world and is the second most valuable player behind Messi and you think Stones as a defender has this much scope, ok right clearly Jose sides with you.

A good measure for this Transfer Luke Shaw who had a better Season for Southampton than Stones for Everton, had the same amount of caps for England and more for his club but was also younger. He was 19 at the time of transfer and he was only sold for £27 million.
Yes you can point out that Southampton sell more than Everton but its not as if they have too they seem to make a ton of profit every season.
It just shows better business sense, they know that the fees coming in are the best price they are ever going to get for those players, so they sell them on and use that fee to bolster there squad, making them better as a team. Look at last season they sold 5 players for 85 mill and bought 7 for 60 mill and managed to improve their squad.

Is this not what Everton need to do they are short of defensive depth and strength at the moment and would selling Stones and buying 2 quality CB and a future prospect with that fee not make more sense than holding on to him it would definitely give more balance to the squad.

Everton will never be able to sell him for more than £40 million even with a couple of brilliant seasons where he wins all the accolades and plaudits possible as he is a CB also PSG, Real and Barca won't pay extorted fees for Englishness as they don't have that quota to fill. so the only options for this kind of fee are the Manchester duo ManU have a lot of young English defenders who supposedly had more potential than Stones. Jones was tipped to be the next best defender as was Smalling, So that leaves city who I am surprised haven't come in for him until now since they have been linked with every English player going surely it says a lot about this transfer that Man city weren't interested clearly he isn't thought of as highly by the rest of the league.

Stones being English and Sterling's silly fee is the only reason Everton can ask upwards of 30m.

I mean on grand old team there is actually people saying he is worth 45-60m.  Mental

Why are we chasing him so hard? We are looking desperate as fuark; we don't need him.

We might well do at the end of the season though. Who knows whether JT will be able to make it through the entire season unscathed...

Well cahill is capable enough with zouma as a partnership. If stones came he would take up zouma place anyway most likely, which would be harsh given zouma has showed himself to be more than good enough. We have ivanovic we could play at cb too.

Two bids.  Not really chasing so hard, just a lot of press coverage due to there being eff all else going on.

Why is this is any different to City pursuing Sterling or United Shaw?

Because it involves an English player the transfer is played out in the media a lot more than say we was buying from abroad.

Can't see how bidding on him makes us look "desperate".

Apparently city are now in the race according to a couple of outlets, if this is true, which it's likely not it will help drive up the price nicely for an already stubborn Everton, I wonder if teams leak disingenuous interest just to make other teams ay more now that ffp is a factor..

To be honest I would imagine other club's interest is pure speculation because no media outlet knew of our interest until a bid had already been made.

If Everton are in fact adamant that Stones is not for sale then it won't matter who is bidding.

If Everton are open to selling at a certain price then should all interested parties meet that valuation then you would assume it would come down to Stones to choose where he wants to go.

I posted the link a page back I think, both city and united apparently.

Guessing games from the media.

It could well be an 11th hour deal, Everton are probably looking for replacements right now.

They need replacement centre backs either way, they've already lost Distin and Alcaraz in this transfer window; their only backup to Jagielka and Stones is Brendan Galloway and Tyias Browning, who are 19 and 21 respectively.

It's not as if the transfer market is swimming with decent options at centre back either (as Man Utd have found out). I'm wondering whether they'll sell us Stones, but keep him on loan for a season while they sort themselves out at the back.

who is getting sold?

Mangala?

Kompany?

Denayer?

Dimichelles?

Sagna?

Zabaleta?

Clichy?

Kolarov?

Or is he being bought and sent to their U21? or loaned out?
