John Stones

As mclovin says, how exactly did we try and bully them? This desperation to cast us as the villain (even by some of our own fans) is do tiresome. We bud for him, that's it. No bullying, no attempts to steal/grab/take him. We bid an amount for him, then upped the bid. Same as many many other transfers this summer and every other window. Everton playing the victim is the embarrassing thing in this, Martinez has shown himself to be a spineless little hypocrite.

It will be interesting to see what happens in 3 years time. I don't think he will extend his contract.

They haven't got a player for life, which is what I believe they think.

Mez

Yes the bullying comment from peanutheadrammy is laughable.

It's the transfer window. He's a player that is desired. He's been bid on. Who cares what they said about him being not for sale, what if that was a tactic to drive the price up? We step back and a team like United swoop in and make us look complete mugs.

I've got no problem with them knocking us back, but they bought it all into the media, not us.

Everton for all their kicking and screaming about this saga have been a whole lot more vocal about it all then Chelsea have.

Now it looks like it won't happen suddenly the narrative is "Big, bad, bullying Chelsea and Mourinho don't get their own way despite best efforts to unsettle Everton and Stones".

Strange.

Chelsea have shown in recent seasons that we respect players' wishes when an offer comes in for them. We wanted Mata, KdB, Schurrle and Cech (and I think Lukaku) to stay, but we didn't stand in their way and attempt to hold them to their contracts against their will. This was what José said after Cech went to Arsenal:

I think it brings the club into a different dimension. It makes every player understand what this club is. Our owner is saying to everybody that human relationships and loyalty is more important than football.'

What he means here is that a club has show loyalty to a player, not demand that the player show loyalty by forcing him to stay when he can earn more or further his career (or both) elsewhere.

Mourinho has more class in his pinky than Matinez has in his whole body.

His biggest achievement will always be a FA cup win despite getting his side relegated in the same season. He's a nothing manager and boy does he know it.

Jose has more class in his sphincter.

Best of luck at signing any talent with UCL and title-ambitions to longer contracts in the future Everton.

Not gonna happen.

Peter Reid believes Everton are making a mistake in hanging on to John Stones.

Stones has been told he will not be sold this summer after he handed in a transfer request in an attempt to force through a move to Premier League champions Chelsea.

But former Goodison midfielder Reid feels that it may be better all-round if the Toffees allow the 21-year-old to go.

Speaking on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, he said: “If footballers are not happy they do not play their best football.

“I always think footballers are in control of the situation. I am delighted Everton have said no, but does he want to play for Everton? No.”

Asked what he would do if he was in charge, he added: “You get him out.

“I’m not saying he is a bad apple. But if you are at a club and you are not happy, you have to go. I say that with a heavy heart.”

Well clearly Martinez hasn't done too badly at mentoring Stones so far...

I think people are being unfair to him. Martinez is a manager who is capable of building excellent teams and accomplishing great things, however he is clearly a flawed manager and he never seems to be able to do it consistently. He managed to win the FA Cup in 2013 with a backline which featured a centre back partnership of Paul Scharner (out-of-position) and Antolin Alcaraz, as well as Roger Espinoza also out-of-position at left-back. He kept a consistently atrocious Wigan side in the Premier League for four years, and in his first season at Everton, got them to 5th, ahead of Man Utd and a Tottenham side who had spent £105m during the summer.

To be honest I'm not taking any of his comments personally. Of course he's equivocating and lashing out, we're trying to snatch his best young player from under his nose, a future England stalwart who could be the bedrock of Everton's defence for the next decade. If Everton are going to challenge for European places, Stones is exactly the kind of player they need to hold onto. If they let him go limply, it would also set a pretty bad precedent for other potential departures - Barkley, McCarthy or Lukaku perhaps? If these kinds of players are allowed to leave, the foundations of a future Everton side which intends to consistently find itself in Europe, then his team is likely doomed to meander around in mid-table while the top five, fuelled by the ability to sign players like Stones with ease, remain at the top and the likes of Tottenham misfire their way into the Europa League. He is probably also looking at last season's lower top half sides strengthening (e.g. Palace, Swansea) and thinking "sh*t... we are getting left behind."

Frankly I don't blame him for lashing out and talking sh*te about us, I would do exactly the same thing if I thought it would achieve my goals - keeping my team's best young players out of Chelsea's grubby mitts.

I can't believe Everton still refuse to sell. It's astonishing really.

Yes, the lad has heaps of potential but does Martinez seriously believe he will be worth more than £40 million when Stones hits his peak?

Quite possibly. However, I doubt he'll be worth too much more.

Only Europe's finest Centre Backs would be worth more than that. (... and David Luiz apparently) It's a huge gamble on potential alone.

Everton could sign several quality defenders with £40 million, if they pull their head out of their arses.

Martinez in his press conference said:

"It seems like money can buy anything these days and clearly what we stand for at Everton is more important values."

What the f**k does that even mean? Doesn't change the fact that Stones wants to leave.

Exactly this, I don't see how anyone can be so offended at Martinez. Mourinho is no saint, Stones is under contract at Everton. If Everton want to keep him they can keep him. That's what the contract is there for.

So why try and take some morale high ground suggesting we have tapped him up and acting like a unprofessional club?

IS this not the same guy who courted Lukaku in the media before he moved to Everton?

The guy is a hypocritical fool.

Oh and good managers tend not to get teams relegated...just saying.

As if those cheeky scallywags from Merseyside would ever do such a thing?

Every club is at, every manager takes the high morale ground. It's to please their fanbase, Mourinho does it, Martinez does it, Wenger does it.

He's not gonna come out and praise Chelsea for bidding on their prized asset is he, he wants to portray Chelsea as the big bad wolf and Everton fans probably buy it .Mourinho talks so much rubbish after every game and even in his press conferences but most of us lap it up cause we are have blue tinted glasses on.

I don't see how anyone can be offended, it's just Martinez creating his own siege mentality in my opinion. If we were Everton fans we would be praising him.
