John Stones

Featured Replies

I get the feeling that Stones really does care about how he is perceived by Everton fan's so he probably thought the deal would get done without him having to say, "He I want out." If that is the case then I can see why the fans really seem so upset that he is leaving. I think he was trying to spare them this. Ultimately it is almost impossible to come out of this completely clean so he should have just handed in the request weeks ago. Again, who knows what was going on in the background.

IS it not just if they accept it you forfeit the loyalty bonus? Could be wrong though

yeh he has to sign for us to forfeit it. if he stays he gets it.  as far as i know

Nah we can still keep him, that's not an issue. It's whether we want to keep him not, the finances, the possibility of the crowd getting on his back, next summer's Euros, who we could get in etc etc. Quite a few things to consider for us.

I have to say, to hand it in with 6 days to go is spectacularly poor behaviour on the player's part. Do it in July, if you're going to do it, and at least have some consideration for your current club. Devastated.

Think the recent Martinez interviews have given it away. He has been cagey as f**k and seemed less convincing.  Chances are it was handed in, or mooted before today and the club have just been waiting for the inevitable

Looking at their forum they've turned on him quickly.

Handing out a transfer request is a serious thing. Stones is saying he doesn't want to stay in the club and he burns his bridges to the club. I don't think Everton will stand in his way. He won't come cheap though and the club is still unknown.

Is it really that hard of a decision? It's taken you this long to sign a CB, I don't see you being able to get one or two more before the window closes. If he stays then his value will either stay the same or most likely increase after the Euro's and he'll be linked to more clubs. He may want to leave but if he carries on playing like he has already this season then the fans won't have much to complain about.

To me, it seems like Everton hold all the cards. Unless Stones starts acting unprofessional then there's very little reason to sell.

I can see Everton rejecting it and forcing him to stay, as they clearly don't like us. That or they will sell him to Man utd or Arsenal or someone.

why are we so scared of playing our academy players? Liverpool just put an 18yr old from Charlton in their first team and he's doing extremely well. If Gomez or stones were at Chelsea they'd probably be playing at Vitesse right now, and loftus cheek is rotting on the bench despite Matic clearly needing a partner. We have one of the best youth academies in the country yet here we are about to spend almost 40million on another youth player.

If we wanted to finish 7th like liverpool and play a depleted squad in the CL because we already accepted getting nowhere we probably would

That's the problem I have with football sometimes...if someone is unhappy enough to tell you that you want to leave, why keep him? It's sort of forced labor at that point.

Usually when someone is unhappy enough to hand in a transfer request, it's a good thing to sell.

Does handing in a transfer request automatically mean you are unhappy? Suarez did a request but he wasn't unhappy, quite the opposite in fact, he just wanted a better chance to win things.

Some hilarious posts on GrandOldTeam right now, its in total meltdown.

If it's true, to hand in a transfer request so late in the window is disgusting behaviour.

Would have thought the lad had more class than that.

Obviously not.

If the board had any balls they would reject it.

Not arsed if it sounds tittish but if I seen the lad on the street I'd snap his two legs, pompous t**t.

It really is a Liverpool thing isn't it ?

Still not sure we will actually get him, but I do think it will have an effect on his value.

I think it will be in everton best interest to sell now though tbh. Even if he has a good season, everyone knows that he wants to go to a club that is challenging for honours. He won't sign a new contract, so his price will fall if buying clubs are prepared to wait a couple of seasons.

It's more often used to indicate unhappiness than a political bargaining chip...

Do you honestly believe that Stones either directly or through his agent at some point hasn't spoken to Martinez on the subject in the past three weeks? Truth is Martinez and Everton have overplayed their hand, the amounts they are reportedly asking is completely out of proportion with the lads experience even including English tax. Otamendi, the best CB in Spain last year recently moved for 32m. A deal should have been struck weeks ago for 30 plus addons that accounted for his potential and you in turn would have been cash rich in this transfer window. We may or may not now get the player but the tardiness of the transfer request is as much a part of Evertons fault as it is Stones and ours.

Everton should reject it, after the window he'll carry on playing to the best of his ability then sell him at the end of the season for the same money we're offering now. If he has a good season people will be willing to pay it.

Well that's what I would want if I were an Everton fan.

I guess we will see then. I think if he was unhappy he would have made more of a noise about it.

If I was forced to stay after handing in a transfer request, I would play like sh*t.
