I've heard about trying to turn a negative into a positive, but this is ridiculous.

 

Well, is it true or untrue?

Had anybody heard of Brano when we signed him for £6million all them years ago? Give the guy a chance at least!!! Also, he's in the last year of his contract so the fee isn't really a valid valuation. Though I do have to say I can't understand how we were so good defensively last season and so bad now. Baffled!!!

 

I second this. Havent watched him last season, but in 2013/2014 he looked top class. At least give Papy a chance to prove himself.

Senegal has a lot of great players and arguably have the most high profile players of all African teams, but the problem is forming a team. Senegal have been trying out many defensive pairings and so far Mbengue and Sane have seemed the most solid back two. Senegal does have defenders to choose from - all playing in the top 5 leagues (mostly France, but also England, Germany, Italy).

 

Senegal now has 10 Premier League players, by far the most of all African countries.

Even pedro was a nonsense deal. There was no reason to wait. We could and should have done it the moment his release was reduced.

Begovic, yeah fine, but I won't give credit to anyone for signing a keeper when a keeper leaves the squad. It's the most obvious piece of squad maintenance.

Messing about with traore, with moses, with Cuadrado and Kenedy... What kind of strategic thinking is this?

Meanwhile there is no additional central midfielder despite the decision to scale back loftus cheeks potential involvement. Fabregas and matic chased shadows against psg because we couldn't rotate them and they've started the season terribly with no viable replacements. Flirting late in the window with a pipe dream like Pogba simply isn't good enough, and being potentially out of the race in August isn't good enough. Jose needs to reflect on his work in this period with the attention to detail he's seemingly reserved solely for the medical department.

In particular I think someone needs to be held accountable for the utter shambolic pre season training schedule we had and that we are still paying the price for.

The transfer situation has been bizarre, the opposite of our smooth and ruthless dealings last Summer. I actually think we will be ok and will pick up - there is a lot of talent in the squad and it just needs to be managed a bit better. The worry is of course central midfield though. Great to see RLC out there on Sat, even if it was by default. Food for though for Mourinho hopefully.

This new guy? It's all a bit silly. Clearly Stones was the target and they had no plan b (and not for the first time). I'm actually glad they haven't panicked and thrown £40m at someone else and are going to bide their time.

It's hardly the same though. Ivanovic was 4 years younger when he signed for us, there was no news that we had signed a player that had an average season and Ivanovic was properly scouted. This guy is clearly a stop gap because we can't get any better.

 

I personally don't see the point in this signing, he'll barely get a game, we may as well have just promoted a youngster.

Sadly with Jose, and it's one of his flaws, he'll be looking to blame everybody but himself.

Absolutely, but I'm okay with him saying what he likes publicly. He doesn't need to tell us he's made a mess of it. I guess his entire base of strength as a manager comes from the implicit idea that he's always correct and beyond reproach.

But I hope that deception doesn't extend into self deception.

It isn't down to emenalo that moses and Cuadrado have done the hokey cokey going in and out of the squad.

Why the doubt and last minute loans?

Because house clearly didn't know what his squad would be.

Why change Cuadrado to a first 11 number then get rid after the season starts?

Why stop left footed teenage attacker traore going on loan only to put Kenedy, a left footed teenage attacker immediately into the squad as well?

What sort of business is it to have clearly no second choice target beyond a last minute look at the football manager database? If Jose wanted stones perhaps it would be a good idea to not brief the press that you're going to sign the player when he has a 4 year contract. Perhaps don't further anger the manager who has the final say on the matter by getting into a semantic debate via the press.

Furthermore, this is an experienced manager. The pre season programme has been a nonsense and you need only look at fabregas, azpilicueta, matic and hazard to see the condition still isn't there (I omit Ivan as he's clearly finished at least as an attacking fullback). If villas boas presided over this he would be rightly slaughtered.

Jose is the best manager we've ever had and is the architect of the current champions. He must know he's hugely cooked up and if we are not to challenge then perhaps it is time to actually follow through with his words about playing the young players.

P. S. Putting loftus cheek on for matic as some sort of punitive measure for a loss of form for which he is partially culpable does not count.

Ivanovic was one of the best players in the russian league at what, 23? 24? And he played for a team that was figting for the title. He wasnt a 27 yr old flirting with relegation every season

At the time wasn;t Bogarde on something like 30k? In today's market I wouldn't be surprised if Paby Bodfjkdfghidtgiuyfhkjdhd7f62!& is on more than that.
