September 16, 201510 yr I wholeheartedly agree with Savage saying Cesc should play higher, Oscar with Matic, Oscar can run from deep..
September 16, 201510 yr Enjoyed the highlights despite folk negating the win. If we were truly rubbish we'd have lost even against the 'lesser' team; ruddy meeja! Roll on Saturday.

September 16, 201510 yr RLC - composed, energetic, positive. Let's see more of him Baba - hardly tested defensively but loads of energy. Needs a few more games to bed in. Good debut though. Hazard - needs to get head out of his backside. He ha so much talent but lacks application to get him right to the top. Dave - what a player, so underrated. Overall, the performance was bright and energetic. Something that we haven't seen for a while. Defensively we still look shaky, he should have conceded a couple of goals today but Tel Aviv were awful. We have 3 tough games coming up which we will need to be on top form to win. Let hope we've got the monkey off our back now.
September 16, 201510 yr I wholeheartedly agree with Savage saying Cesc should play higher, Oscar with Matic, Oscar can run from deep.. Completely disagree, oscars game is all about pressing from the number 10 position he isn't a number 8 IMO Fabregas is a much better passer from the deeper position it's just he's currently out of form and against better opposition needs more help by playing a 4-3-3
September 16, 201510 yr Rahman looked a bit...(!!)* and I know the opposition were a bit... (!!) but I'd still play him at LB and Azpi RB on Saturday. Sorry Ivanovic, just can't believe he can continued to be picked. The guy has been fantastic for us and I'll never lose any respect for him but he shouldn't start anymore games in the foreseeable. *his crossing anyway! Wasn't tested too much otherwise. Costa'and finish was larvely, more of the same on Saturday please. Remy did a lot of running and put a load of effort it, shame he'll lose his place.
September 16, 201510 yr Also Zouma - fantastic, always so focused on the ball and showed a lot of dedication, love him. Reminds me a bit of Rambo effort/energy wise... not body size that's for sure!

Buut Baba has pace, a very good tackle and is hard to beat 1 on 1, he will come good for us, everything else I agree with

Oh dear chippy, that is why Arsenal lost. Now I know why lol. In terms of today was certainly not a good test as our opposition did not play well, and I have to believe they can play better than that and will, especially at home. However with that said I take away from the game: 1. Hazard. Poor pen, bad first half. Would not stand him down from pens all together personally (David Luiz missed some in his career but when the pressure was really on we know what he did in Munich). Much better second half though, just missing the end product but the fact he was back in the right place, running at players was what I want to see. Him trying that, not him in our own half losing the ball with silly tackles. 2. The defense. Well done Gary Cahill, stand out performer from the CBs for me, and in all honesty think JT should stay on the bench on Saturday. A much more truer test for the Cahill-Zouma pairing than tonight. If JT does come back I hope it is for Zouma who was less assured in his touch and decisions than Gary was tonight. 3. Full backs. Azpi back where he belongs, Baba offered a good threat though he was done a few times at the back. Cannot see Jose not restoring Brana for Arsenal. 4. Diego Costa. Learn from your goal Diego. You are a battering ram and a goal scorer, but Ronaldo you are not, the less touches you have the better, just shoot. 5. Remy. Poor sod, 20 minutes up front then out on the win. Deserves more time as a striker. 6. Oscar. Well played, made a difference, needs to start against Arsenal. 7. RLC. Man of the match, a bad message from Jose if he is dropped for Arsenal. Loved the energy and effort. An enjoyable game finally lol.
September 16, 201510 yr I have a good feeling about this and I'm generally a pessimist when it comes to predicting outcomes of a match. I have a feeling that the Chelsea boys will be angry and on a mission to silence the critics with a strong win tonight that also symbolically commences their season! If there's no response tonight then I'll be very concerned but until then I'm still optimistic we'll turn this season around. Prediction: Chelsea 4-1 Maccabi Tel-Aviv So close Jezz!
September 16, 201510 yr does someone have a link for the game highlights ? ITV had a highlight show, should be on player now.
September 16, 201510 yr That winning feeling, haven't felt that for ages. Regardless how poor the opposition is, we still had to do the job. As other results shown, nothing is for granted at this level. This win will definitely give Jose some extra options for the Arsenal game. Oscar is definitely in, Baba put up a good case even he's still raw, RLC is definitely in contention as well. Let's hope this is the start of the 40 games unbeaten run
September 16, 201510 yr does someone have a link for the game highlights ? Uefa extra time on itv now.
September 17, 201510 yr What happens on the right wing with Pedro and Willian gone? i would still prefer remy on the right wing just beacuse of his pace and how hard he worked this game. but again i m sure jose would prefer ramires.
September 17, 201510 yr Great match from Diego, Cesc, Oscar. Hopefully Willian is ok because he is the only one fresh and quick player right now. Ruben - MOTM. Hazard - failure of the match.
September 17, 201510 yr Really great win and I hope we can carry this form onto Arsenal on the weekend. The fourth goal worked out well but did anyone think that Oscar should have passed it left instead of right? Fabregas seemed to be in oceans of space out there.
September 17, 201510 yr The kids are alright. Great intensity and energy. Jose correct to keep Fabregas as it turns out. Loved Remy' pace. RLC did very well, especially as he had a yellow in the first minute. Baba controlled and solid, probably under instructions. Not enough of a test to say whether he should start against Arsenal. Azpi was terrific and if Arsenal have pace on their left then he needs to stay there. Costa gets a goal and a penalty, that's more like it. The opposition were not top quality, but their supporters were! They also exposed us a few times, so our defensive challenges remain. Thought Cahill performed the senior defensive role to perfection. Great team performance and while I have my feet on the ground before Saturday, I think we can go into that match full of confidence. Edited September 17, 201510 yr by EmeraldBlue
September 17, 201510 yr One thing I will say from being at yesterday's game is how disgusted I am with this "no shooting" policy we seem to have going on at the moment. There were countless occasions where Fabregas, Oscar, Costa had the ball in a great position at the edge of the box, or even in the damn penalty area and they still tried to pass it into the net. It was absolutely infuriating to watch. The fans sat either side of me were all bellowing "SHOOOT" along with me, but in vain. Why? Why are we doing this? Is this some sort of tactic from JM? Man, I miss Lampard so much. Is it just me who has noticed this?

Man, I miss Lampard so much. Is it just me who has noticed this? I don't think it is a tactic, if it is then matic certainly wasn't following it at the weekend. I think the most frustrating thing is that it's usually ivanovic or willian that take the shots on from distance and neither are exactly specialists. Hazard should shoot way more than he does, he has the quality to make half a yard with ease but he rarely takes on a shot from distance, even though he is more than capable with both feet as he has shown on occasion in the past.
September 17, 201510 yr Make no mistake. This team came at the right time for us. They were absolutely garbage but you can only beat what's in front of you and this was an excellent confidence booster. Beating Arsenal now would kick start our season. Lose and we are in real trouble.
