Chelsea return to form

Featured Replies

I cant exactly explain why I think this, I guess I see sparks of something in the porto game. I think this weekend we will see chelsea blast back to the form we expect of them. I think the dry run is over and I think we will be on our way back up to the top of the league. It may be wishful thinking but I think I saw some real fight in some of the players againsnt porto and I really feel this will catch on almost immediately.

I agree to some extent, they passed the ball much better and quicker in spells, seemingly to try to be a bit more proactive....but if we go with the same type of team, especially at the back, I don't share the same confidence.

When we stop leaking so many careless goals and also do more than dithering with the ball around the box instead of shooting maybe I will have the same faith!!

When we stop leaking so many careless goals...

This should be something Jose knows how to do. Make us solid at the back again and we'll start getting good results again.

2 positives of the Porto game for those who missed it (from my perspective):

1) Costa's hold up play was really good. Everything about him, from strength to dribbling was much improved despite virtually nothing to work with and was a lick of paint away from scoring a screamer which Casillas had no chance of getting to. Showed aggression without his usual bouts of anger and probably had his best game this season.

2) Willian played as an inside forward on the left and looked full of energy going forward and tracking back. Scored a gorgeous FK as well and looked up for the fight. Put in a gorgeous cross which I think Pedro should have thrown himself at to score.

The thing is, European games are generally more open, we hardly ever face teams who sit everyone behind the ball and counter attack us, like we do in the PL, so naturally we are going to have a few more chances as there is more space. Facing teams who defend everyone behind the ball we are still awful, because we attack so slowly, it's like we want to wait and let their whole team get back into position before trying to do anything. THe amount of times we f**k about on the edge of the box and give the ball away is criminal.

A good thread in a sea of gloominess.

While it's easy to cherry pick the negatives in the Porto game, I too saw some glimpses of hope in how we played. We were definitely more alert and played with more urgency than what we have seen in SJP.

At the end of the day, we're still fans of this club. It's only right to get behind the team in such difficult times.

I firmly believe this dip in form will go away soon too. Let that be this Saturday, come on lads!

Nice optimism.. The season is still long and we could still make a comeback.. I'd hate it if we waste another season for nothing..

Im an eternal optimist, but i didnt see improvement. Arsenal is the standout performance of the season so far, and we didnt kick on from there. last night wasnt as good as that, so im not expecting us to be back in top form anytime soon. Hope im proven wrong though. In Jose We (well, I) Trust

Costa hitting the crossbar last night gave me great hope. Signs of his confidence returning shooting from there?. But unlike the media would have you believe I felt Chelsea put in a good performance and created quite a few opportunities that could and probably should have led to goals. I'm against diving in the game but did anyone else feel Hazard could have gone down? He's normally great at winning free kicks in good positions so I was surprised at his desire to avoid the tackle yesterday. Fair play to him. I think this game could be a turning point too. But I thought that after Maccabi. And after Arsenal.

Really want something to spark a bit of optimism into us, and the players.  Hope that Saturday is the game

I reckon the problem is this new bloody tyres sponser. Last season we were a well oiled machine, barely out of 3rd gear. Now its like everyone has put the brakes on, amd frankly i'm exhausted with the whole thing.

We just seem to be sliding down the table. We seemed so slick last year.

I'm sure we'll gain some traction after the Southampton game, as long as the pressure doesn't get to us.

Once Costa is back from suspension we'll be pumped. He makes all the difference, without him we fall flat.
