Even its not entirely accurate, it is going to be a ball park number, major news outlet reported similar. Significantly lower than the 230k strider used to back up his opinion. Not saying his opinion is wrong, just that the numbers are way off. True. I think the press like to do a bit of stirring, not just in our club. They all are just guessing. Maybe total annual salary bill gets published as part of the clubs accounts, and directors' emoluments used to be declared, but I'm not sure even that is true these days. But they have to fill column inches and they have to generate clicks and one of the tried and tested methods is to print "player X gets so much, player Y wants more, what does player Z think about that, player W is unhappy - oh look we have a story!"
March 10, 20206 yr I think Tammy needs to start banging in the goals again upon his return, he should also look at how Giroud links up with the players around him and learn from that. In the early days of the season Tammy was doing that and more, but for a while he hasn't been very effective and has missed some gilt edged chances.

March 10, 20206 yr I say give him what he wants, without him we would be at the level of Arsenal or Spurs! Giroud can't play 90 min and Batman can't be the first choice... We will have tons of space for his wages since Pedro,Willian,Giroud and many more are leaving anyway...

In my 30 years or so of following football every now and again you get players playing well for a spell and are never heard of again. If we give them too high a salary on a long contract they can be difficult to move on should their performance levels drop and we are now complying with FFP Balance is needed.

I also think agents talk, and leak things to the press, if they have got their client a good deal, it wouldn't hurt to have that out in the open.
March 10, 20206 yr Whatever we pay him you lot need to remember he’ll have to pay 50% in tax and can help fund our struggling NHS (unless he’s got the same accountant as Jimmy Carr). Does nobody think of their country anymore?

March 10, 20206 yr I hope this doesn't turn the fanbase against Tammy, CHO received a lot of unfair stick for it I felt. It's not like these footballers are negotiating their own pay, it's their agents.
March 10, 20206 yr If we want the best young players at our academy, we have to pay them top salaries when the do get into the first team. Whats the point having a youth academy if you cant hold onto them when they come of age ? I cant think of anything more demoralising as a fan.
March 10, 20206 yr To those who think that the proposed (and alleged) wages on offer are excessive, Joe Tweedie (who I'm fairly sure writes for WAGNH) made a pretty good argument on Twitter (link is here)*. He points out that football finances are poorly understood by most fans. Let's say the £120k/week figure someone stated on the previous page is accurate. Not taking bonuses, sign-on fees (etc.) into consideration, this means that Tammy will cost the club 120k x 52 = £6.24m per year. Now we have to consider the alternatives. If we were to buy a player of roughly Tammy's standard (and without considering his other virtues, e.g. club trained, young, English, etc.), even being incredibly optimistic, they are going to cost at least £50m. Let's also suppose the replacement would be willing to accept the same wages, i.e. £120k/week. Transfer fees are accounted for by dividing the purchase fee by the number of years in the contract (amortisation). This hypothetical replacement would therefore cost (assuming the standard five-year contract) £50m / 5 = £10m/year. Add to that the £6.24m a year in wages and this player will cost the club £16.24m per year. £16.24m per year versus £6.24m per year - the hypothetical replacement (even using incredibly optimistic figures) would cost us over two and a half times more than Tammy would even with the new contract. Perhaps it seems excessive, perhaps it seems greedy - who cares? This other player wouldn't possess the emotional, almost intangible qualities that Tammy does, and would lack them while being considerably more expensive to the club, at a time when we need every pound note we can get our hands on to strengthen other areas of the squad. Bear in mind that the £10m/year difference here buys us a £25m player on £100k/week. I say pay him what he wants. *(I'd recommend reading the link, he explains it better than I do).

Tammy isn't going to fade away he's only going to get better. Whatever works, but it's important not to lose him, from my perspective some players just get what they want, I think Tammy is one of those players that should get what he wants, I doubt that his performance levels will drop so much maybe I'm naive here since anything can happen but I just don't see him in that way.

I was just seeing the latest in this Tammy thread and didn't realise it was a thread I started back in 2015. So I just went back to thread beginning to have a look. Back then he was behind Solanke and Izzie Brown in the pecking order and as much as we all wanted youth to come through to the first team, who would honestly believe in 2015, how many would be involved in 1st team now? It's so easy to get complacent but I hope this trend continues - as long as Lamps and Jody are at the helm, I think it will.
July 1, 20206 yr Nobody talks about this player. It is time for someone to have to say that he is not a player for Chelsea. There was no positive action throughout the game, he seems to be a good guy and teammate, but he just doesn't have any quality to wear this jersey. If we want to win games and competitions we can't have Tammy on the squad. He had many more opportunities than he deserved. It doesn't work, it doesn't work, it's time to admit it and sell him to a club of his level.
July 1, 20206 yr I still like him and rate him but he has been awful this year it has to be said, injuries haven't helped but you can't just stay in a slump like that, you have to take the opportunity. There's a reason 33 year old Giroud is being played over him right now. I can't see him starting next game after that performance.
July 1, 20206 yr The reality stroke way faster than what I anticipated. Anyway it's been funny 3 months. Now let's not be idiots and just keep the good feelings between both sides and sell to more appropriate team.
