John Terry to leave Chelsea at end of the season.

This won't be a popular opinion but the club had to move on eventually. Sentiment aside I think the timing is right. I'd rather JT moved on than be relegated to 'squad player' next season.

Simply irreplaceable. Captain, leader, legend ad infinitum.

Not so much what has happened, but how and when.

Wild rumour, his support of Jose; lesser rumour he was told no further contract possibly due to age etc.

Interesting...

When it comes to his age, he's better footballer than most of 23-28 lads in the PL.

I believe He still has 2 years. But it's not only about his skill on the pitch but also leadership.

I don't see myself how this is such an awful decision, he's 35 years old the club needs to move on. Yes he's still got a year or two left in the game, but he's not the same player he was at his best.

The only real annoyance of his departure is a lack or leadership within the side. I can't see myself any other real captain within the squad at the same leadership level as Terry.

Ye it's a sad day, but overall I'm not disgusted. Life goes on, the club goes on, new legends will be made.

JT is probably Chelsea's most loved player ever, and nothing will change that! He will be back eventually.

For those of you pointing out he aint the player he was and he is getting on a bit now, dont forget the modern game is all about a squad of 22 players,so,even if JT didn't play every game and became a squad player,he would have a massive influence on the rest of the squad and would be a great help to the likes of Zouma and Miazga.with his experience.

F##king disgraceful decision

It's even more annoying that Ivanovic will be the captain next season

I have had some sh*ty, moments over the years, obvusly some great ones as well, every team will be on that merry go round, getting thumped by United in the cup final, Moscow, barca last min goal but these are things that live outside of our control by and large as a club.

So the things that hurt me the most are actually those f**k ups of our own making. It seems only chelsea can really do this in such style, selling dixon should have been a pretty good clue, the sacking of gullit when we where so close, Jose the first time around, Jose this time... But one if the most horrendous moments for me as a Chelsea fan was watching frank heald aloft in sky blue at the end of last season. In no way do a I begrudge him the send of, but it should have been in royal chelsea blue, we will never get that moment again and now it seems we will have to suffer it with JT as well

Giggs, Scholes, Neville, they were never the same player they once was in the last few years of their careers, but they were offered new deals at United every season because they were important to the club and were still vital to the team. Terry is the same to us.

Also, how is this moving on exactly ? It's very very unlikely that we will get Champions League football next season, he is still our best CB, how is going into next season without Terry a good idea ? By releasing Terry, we will be going backwards. Even if Terry was a squad player he would still be massively important to us. Whoever we bring in will need time to settle, rotating with someone like Terry would be hugely important.

I fail to see how a player who is still playing pretty much every game for us is now not good enough to feature at all in the future.

An absolute legend. So many great moments as a player. Too many to name but here's one: his goal in the 4-2 win over Barca. I remember him coming on the pitch at half-time to sign on with the club. He was about 15 at the time. And his first appearance - it was in a League Cup game against Villa.

It is easy to use the legend when describing a player but he is in the top five legends at the club. Let's hope the club honours him. I love this photo.

Sad day but JT is still with us! Top end football is now a result driven business only - no room for people like JT.

I still think he may stay.....

At some point the club has to move on if this had happened next year people would be reacting the same way. Emotions are getting in the way of business and rational thinking i personally would of liked him to stay just because he would help Zouma and Matt next season but i think the owner and board sees it as a time to build a new team around our attacking players as we are having below average season take the opportunity to rebuild. Overreaction again is shocking just like the Jose situation. It's time to move on big thanks to these legends of the club but at some point they have to leave. As stated also this may be coming from the potential new manager who has an idea of who he wants at the back with deals already lined up.

One reason put out there is the club wanted to wait until the next manager is appointed, they did not want to force JT on the next manager if he did not want him.

Ok, that makes some sense. But how does it make sense to force Brana on the next manager as well then?

Horrible, just bloody horrible.

What is it with this club and making moronic decisions year after year? Is there no one in power who can see how utterly stupid this decision is?

We bring it on ourselves we really do, we offer liabilities year extensions and snub someone who bleeds blue and is twice the player anyone else is at this club.

I love Chelsea but the club are doing there very best to make me want to chuck it tbh.
