Diego strikes me as the opposite of a leader. He seems like a child in an adult body. Prone to tantrums and defiance but responds exceedingly well to proper guidance. Look at how well he responded to Guus who clearly "got" him. He was eager to please Guus and make Guus proud of him in an almost childlike way.

I don't mean this in a bad way. You can't have an entire dressing room of leaders.

Hazard anyone as he captaining his country at the Euro put the leadership on him and if he wants to reach the level of Messi or Ronaldo he will step up and take it

I wouldn't mind Hazard as captain. It may light a fire in him to take over matches, who knows. Zouma wouldn't be a bad choice either.

Is part of Terry's reduced role with the new contract that he isn't captain? I guess since he won't be a regular starter, that would go hand in hand?

This is it really. JT naturally the captain for next season but if his role is smaller, he plays less someone else will wear the band. I think Cesc.

I think Zouma will be future captain, just as long as he can fully recover and continue to make improvements.

I guess the "discussion" between bobbywoodhogan and me was deleted (for the better). But i did say that giving hazard would be a good thing. And looking at the way he has performed in the euros, I would say he has looked far more interested in actually playing football than in a year with us. When JT leaves, he should be the fore-runner, that is if he is staying here.

Cahill isn't good enough to start for us week in, week out, it should go to someone whose a guaranteed starter every week.

If Conte can get Fabregas to play the Pirlo role then I would have Cesc after Jt.

Hazard or Cesc for me anyway, Cesc would be my preference, when things weren't going our way he was the one to shout directions at the team and his celebrations when he scored show a real passion. I don't give a f**k about his past to be honest, he's our player and he always looks fired up for the game

That's not what he said. I agree with Romford that Hazard has not shown enough commitment to Chelsea to be considered Captain material. 

That's not to say I won't support him and the team this season, just that I hope he shows a lot more. A Captain should embody the club, and I dont really fancy Hazard as being the embodiment of Chelsea. Maybe I'm in a minority, but I'd prefer Azpilicueta. Very few options I like in our current squad

At the moment I'm happy for JT to still have the captaincy until he decides to give it up or he leaves the club in whatever capacity.

 

It was a few months back now, but I'm pretty certain that I voted Azpilicueta to be our next captain in the thread poll.

Im not calling for us to get rid of him, but equally if a good bid came in then i wouldnt be desperate to keep him. I dont think he purposefully decided not to perform, but i do think he has a serious mental weakness which will prevent him from being an elite world class player over a sustained period of time.

 

Look at Ronaldo's single-mindedness, some call it arrogance and selfishness. Top players dont say things like Hazard said last season "I will never be able to score as many as those guys. If i score in a game then i am happy". I think he will be inconsistent throughout his career and have more periods, if not whole seasons, like last season.

For those reasons I think a) he shouldnt be captain and b) we should seriously consider good bids for him. 

To make it clear, I dont believe it was a deliberate decision to under-perform, and i wont boo him or refuse to support him while he plays for us.

I hope that clarifies my position.

I really do believe at some point this season Zouma will take Cahill's place in the team, Cahill has been brilliant in the back 3 but Zouma is just simply a much better player, and will get back into the team, so the Captains Armband will be on the move again, Luiz or Hazard should get it imo, or maybe Azpi

I'd give it Luiz, natural leader. Perfect fit for the arm band.
