Christensen and Rudiger leaving would be a disaster, more now than ever. Christensen is really starting to turn into a top CB and Rudiger is at his peak. You can't realistically replace what they give us so quickly. I fear that all of the progress we have made recently will be undone if they go.

Chalobah starting 5 premier league games suggests he is closer than you think. For all its worth he is the 4th highest rated player in the league, behind Salah, Trent & Kovacic. I don’t think Tuchel will have a problem starting him next season, and he has alluded to his progress changing our transfer plans.

 

The Telegraph say we agreed a 5 year deal but his agent went back on it and is trying to cut it down to a 3 year deal, obviously so that we will be in this situation again soon after...

No you can’t, most 4yr contracts are 4yrs + option for 1yr. The agent is just been silly because a 3yr contract means we will be negotiating a new contract for him again next summer or forced to sell. He is 25yrs old and has another big contract left not 29yrs for Pete’s sake.

So assuming it is a 3.5 year deal they are asking for (since we are half way through a season), it would leave them in a position to demand a new increase in the summer of 2023.

Understandably this sounds great to them, and not great to the club.

I guess if they don't shift on this then give them the length they want then sell him in the summer, least we get some sort of a transfer fee.

It's a better solution for Christensen and his camp, but not for Chelsea. A 3 year contract puts us in another Rudiger situation with 29-year old looking for a big contract.

I was hoping we had started to move away from the old over 39s one year contract bollocks. Can’t really blame him for wanting his contract to be renewed again before then!

It makes sense from his agent of point, in a couple of years time he'd be line up for either a big transfer or a big contract renewal, why sell him short by tie down to 5 years? Club doesn't have much to work with, and a hard ball approach will see him leave for free, which is a total disaster. I'd say take the 3 years, or negotiate nicely , that's what the Iron lady is good for.

Like Axman2526 said we will only allow him to sign a 3yr contract now if we intend on selling him next summer. If not come summer of 2023 we will either have to offer him a new improved contract?, or sell him as he will be entering the last 2yrs of his contract.

It really isn’t bollocks though, it is prudent considering other clubs are catching up on our revenue figures. You are not going to find many players who will tear up a £20m contract like Willian did when age finally catches up with them.

If I was a Chelsea player with the over 30 contract policy there is no way I would allow my contract to expire when I am 30 or 31.

I'd look to sign a new five or six year contract when I'm 29.  Can't really blame either Rudiger or Christensen.

I can understand if we don't find a deal with Rudi, given his play style and injury record a sharp decline at some point isn't beyond the realms of possibility. While on balance I'd like to keep him it shouldn't be at any cost.

Christensen on the other hand bar a disaster should last at a high level for atleast another decade, so getting him signed up is an absolute must.

Apparently Rudiger has chosen Real Madrid to be his next club.

Knock on of this is PSG and Bayern have turned their attention to AC.

Christensen has been a revelation of late and while it is true he has persisted with Chelsea and been rewarded for his loyalty so far, it is also fair to say he was given a fair bit longer rope than most of his contemporaries.

 

Tuchel confirms that he's been benching Christensen to force him to commit to the club and sign the contract because a deal was supposedly agreed but it's just sitting there...

Hopefully Trev does not take that as he is on in the side to strong arm AC, cause he has been great and deserves his place.

TT is right. AC has been sending all these messages that he loves the club, loves the staff and fans etc yet he does not sign.

I think it has been turned, good chance he walks out as his dad has long been pushing for him to leave since more or less a few years after he first joined.

To be fair to AC he's never been a nailed on starter and I guess that might influence his thinking.

A theory but maybe Rudiger's already gone but is putting it to one side and fully focused on going out in a blaze of glory but Christensen is more distracted by it and the still uncertainty of his situation?

That is how I see if yes. Rudiger has both feet out the door, AC has one only so far.
