It's been reported though that he has agreed terms twice and all he has to do is sign but now has backed out again.

I'm just going to copy what was in a recent article on The Athletic because that explains it better than I can. Essentially though (and I think this applies to Rudiger too) Chelsea seem to undervalue the worth of their defenders and for whatever reason don't want to pay them anywhere near what players further up the pitch get.

Once a player gets to that kind of age, they have more difficulty negotiating a pay rise because their career is seen as being in its latter stages. Neither option appealed to Chelsea, but they did recently decide to concede to his three-year wish. However, the financial side of things remains a stumbling block and with longer to think about it, Christensen also decided he wanted a longer commitment.

This latest change of stance is the source of Tuchel’s angst, but it is just a sign of a player wanting to make sure he gets a very important decision right that affects his future rather than going back on his word about the club he wants to play for.

The two parties are still in talks over a four-year arrangement and that leads to hope a resolution can still be found."

Totally agree. He was one of the first choices last season when TT took over. Even though Chalobah has done really well I doubt he would have ousted Christensen so easily if everything was good with his contract.

He’s officially sacked his agent now, his own father too. Kinda speaks volumes about his intention to stay.

Rudiger on the other hand is worth the 200k he is asking for.

This makes no sense. Ever wondered why everyone in the back line has been moved around but only Rudiger has been fixed at LCB? You try playing him in the middle & he will be exposed. 
Even Madrid are balking at his demands.

How does your logic make any sense?

John Terry was never moved, does make him a sh*t defender?

Rudiger always plays in that position because he's locked it down.  He doesn't need to be able to play in the centre to justify his wages.  Andreas has not locked down any position.

So this one is a little surprising however rumours are it was AC rather than his dad that kept moving the goal posts on his Chelsea deal, and the appointment of Kin is to see the deal with Barca concluded.

Apparently Dave has already agreed to go there as Xavi is a friend of his and Xavi let it be known to Dave how much he rates AC.

Am not talking about a back 4, in a back 3. Even the last game v Brighton when Christensen pulled up, he wasn’t trusted enough to man the defence & Chalobah was subbed on. 
The central  defender (the sweeper/libero) is the key man in a 3 man defence. He is the one licensed to carry the ball out, & make long sweeping passes. He is the catalyst for our attacks.

Yep because Rudiger never drives the ball out of defence or makes long passes behind for wingers/strikers to chase on to. Never seen him do it once let alone multiple times every match! 

 

I think his pace has a lot to do with sticking to the left - he can cover for Alonso being slow as f**k and for Chilly when he’d spend most of his time playing as an inside forward.

It's got nothing to do with formation, I brought in Terry because of your farcical argument that because Rudiger doesn't play in the middle of the 3 man defence that means he is inferior to Christensen. That's a load of rubbish.

Rudiger is 1st choice at his position in the starting 11, Christensen is a backup.  Therefore Rudiger is worth more.

German media report he is in talks with Dortmund. I'd understand if he would choose Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern, Paris, but Dortmund?! He is a free agent, of all the big clubs in this world he goes to that trainwreck of a club? I respect Dortmund for their fans and for always being great to bet on goals whenever they play, but that's it to be fair. They are that kind of club nobody gets scared of, they are friends with everybody, a great place to be at 20, but hitting your peak why would you go there?! Nevermind, it is his choice, but an underwhelming move if you ask me, at least if you switch clubs go from strenght to strenght, from one of world's finest to another massive one, not Dortmund, Arsenal, Atletico etc.

 

Looking increasingly likely that he might be leaving. 

Bayern and Barca are said to both be interested in signing him. 

Will be a big loss if he goes, hopefully we can still resolve the contract issue. 

Sounds like AC will go to the highest bidder, which has ruled out Dortmund.

Is it just me or I am not too bothered with him leaving? He is decent but not truly exceptional. We can do better than him.

We were after Koundé this summer, he's more then decent.

One may argue it’s always like this but i don’t remember it this bad; and it’s everywhere - not just football. Levels of greed / excess that set off an alarm in my head that shxt’s gonna break.

Very true. They are already making life changing money and if you love your club you dont ask double. Asking for more is just greedy.

Fans too often live with the delusion that players love their club and would move heaven and earth for them. You get the occasional one who wants to stay forever or makes a pay cut gesture but for the vast majority it's just a job and the club is their employer.  They are looking to maximise their income in the same way people do in loads of jobs.
