March 6, 20224 yr I thought he had 1.5 years left on his contract? Is it up at the end of this season?

March 6, 20224 yr Wow, didn’t realise that. Anyway, this guy did his medical the day after the league cup final even though he was apparently injured. He can do one as far as I’m concerned.
March 7, 20224 yr I need to get my head around the maths for this, what he has done and achieved, surely he must be worth to us the equivalent of a new defender for 50+ million, plus wages, or he’s simply a greedy C*nt
March 7, 20224 yr He's always sounded like he wanted to stay and from what Tuchel let's on, the club wants him too. Either that Barca package is just too good or the club are hell bent on Kounde + are prioritising Rudiger, which would be fair.

March 8, 20224 yr Gutted about this. Really think that he's going to have a brilliant next 8 years or so. He's just about to hit his peak.
March 8, 20224 yr Yep looks like everywhere is reporting that its a done deal now. Real shame as he is a top top class defender, who we have had with us from our youth teams. Nothing we can do about it now and hopefully these players learn to regret leaving us. The club really should of tied his and Rudigers deals up much much sooner tbh, but i guess neither were flavour of the month under Frank.
March 8, 20224 yr Surprised he didn't get injured doing his medical. Not really bothered, from the club's point of view it's probably a negative, since he's young and highly rated and we're losing him for free, but I was never a fan. AC's an intelligent player and has a decent technique, but whenever he faces a dominant physically imposing centre forward he struggles. we've seen that many times over the years. He contributes f**k all on set pieces at the attacking end (did he score a single goal yet?) and is made of glass. I seem to remember on several occasions him recovering from injury, starting his first game after long layoff and not being able to finish it. I don't think he has the right mentality, either. Next to a leader like Rudiger or Thiago, he'll do OK, but he'll never fill their shoes, so to speak, too soft. We can do better.
March 8, 20224 yr I've always been an Andreas fan so seeing him leave really hurts. Really thought he was just starting to hit his peak into becoming a top class defender and we might just have missed out on that. His performance in UCL final will always be one to remember. Wish him all the best though and hope the club can find a suitable replacement because I honestly don't rate Sarr to replace him. Edited March 8, 20224 yr by Frankie8Lampard
March 8, 20224 yr Having said that, I'll also add that the club has been really poor on wrapping up contract negotiations this year. The fact that we have 3 defenders' contracts running out shows a really low level of competence on their part. Things are going to get even messier now that the club is being sold and there will be a lot of uncertainty on players deciding their future. This all should have been done by December.
March 8, 20224 yr It is funny a long time ago I said we should have sold him to barca because his game will suit la liga very well.

Depending on what reports people choose to believe the general consensus tends to be we had a deal in place. He then changed his representatives and then afterwards he went back on an oral agreement and wanted a pay rise. Snakey perhaps but some people 'know their worth'. The club understandably refused to raise their offer much higher than the original deal which had already been agreed in principle. Bayern offered more than us from my understanding however, Barca who can't really afford to buy new players suddenly have large pay packets to offer players and so have offered the most. He wants to go clearly he's being promised a regular role probably more than here. Xavi seems to be a good coach and sometimes players want a new challenge. My only disappointment is we aren't getting a fee considering the impact we've had on his career. The best revenge will be to snipe Dembele for free.
March 8, 20224 yr Odd that he is reportedly getting just £96k per week. Would have thought Chelsea would have paid more than that (even with the higher tax band in the UK). I am fine with him going. Yes, it sucks to lose for free, but frankly, we need to move away from 5 at the back, and Christensen has always looked suspect in the EPL when playing in a back 4. Somehow I always got the senses that he never felt properly committed to Chelsea, despite being here forever. Certainly not in the Mr Chelsea bracket of someone like Azpi, or even Rudi.
March 8, 20224 yr Well be prepared for more mistakes than you are used to seeing when Colwill and Trev replace Toni and AC/Dave. However they are worth the patience in my opinion. Both could grown in to exceptional defenders for us.
March 8, 20224 yr I’ve never liked him to be honest, made of glass and I’ve always got the impression he didn’t care much about Chelsea despite growing through the ranks. IMO He never will reach the heights of Silva, VVD, Terry. He’s more of a Koscielny level defender. Not too sad to see him go. Edited March 8, 20224 yr by dansubrosa

Christensen is a brilliant defender in my opinion and losing him is a massive blow. He's our best RCB, second best CB and a ready made Silva replacement from the academy. What's most scary is that I don't think we'll replace him properly and suffer greatly from that. And if Rudiger & Azpi leave as well we have officially welcomed mediocrity with open arms and might as well just throw up the white flag right now so Liverpool & City don't beat us to death in the league next season.
March 8, 20224 yr People here are being harsh on him, his current level is very high, one of the best CBs in the league. I'm personally disappointed because he started off well then had a football mental breakdown, years later he recovered and we only got to use him at this best for a year or so and now he's leaving.
March 8, 20224 yr So apparently he’s signed up for Barca on a 5 million deal, no doubt a hefty sweetener plus a supposed 96k, PW, just how much do we value our players, we are linked to this French answer to Silva, Christensen is tried and trusted and also successful in the PL, sounds like Kounde isn’t a gamble we should take, truly pissed off at this, prepare for a carbon copy repeat with Rudi..😡
March 8, 20224 yr Apparently ACs dad wanted him to stay here and agrees the deal with us in November to do so, however AC did not want to stay here or the PL so fired his dad and signed with a new agent: https://weaintgotnohistory.sbnation.com/chelsea-fc-transfer-rumours-news/2022/3/8/22966358/barcelona-finalizing-christensen-agreement-but-azpilicueta-could-yet-stay-at-chelsea-reports Barca paying him a net of 116k euros. Now I may be wrong on this but I believe both Spain and England have around 50% tax on sports persons contracts. At least high level ones. Would mean AC is on 232k a week in euros before tax there. Apparently we were offering around 150k in pounds before. So he will be making more money there. Also article mentions we have an option to extend Dave's current deal by a year and he is leaning more to staying.

I do get your frustration when the club through stupid money at bumbs likes Baka, Drinkwater and Lukaku.

This is essentially why we are about to lose Christensen and Rudiger. It's simply far too late to turn the screw on the wages when the likes of those you mentioned and Werner, Havertz, Hudson Odoi and others have got ridiculous wage packages. Even our best offer for Rudiger for example is far, far below what Timo bloody Werner earns so no wonder he's not going to sign on that.

Think CHO, Kepa, Lukaku and Werner will be players they look to ship out and may do so at reduced fees just to get their wages off the books.
March 8, 20224 yr Surely Christensen is on at least a £100k pw here, yet barcas offer is 5 million a year, we never no exact figures, but that math surely doesn’t add up, and Btw he is worth a £100k pw surely?
