If what Richard said is true it makes zero sense. We know now we lost but beforehand he is giving up a chance to get a winners medal. Why refuse that bit play dirty Leeds who were far more likely to see him injured?

Hmm Sky are reporting it, as well as his status for the last 2 games being uncertain:

https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11668/12614300/andreas-christensen-chelsea-defender-stood-himself-down-from-selection-for-fa-cup-final-despite-not-being-injured

The article says 'he stood himself down'. That is a peculiar turn of phrase, not at all like a belligerent 'refused to play'. There may be something going on entirely, like something in his private life, or as has been suggested in earlier posts, a mental issue. If that is indeed the case, he deserves some empathy and not stick.

It’s not that uncommon for some players ‘throw up’ prior to a match. Many tell in biographies of them being so hyped up to being physically sick. They do though manage these symptoms, it’s what makes them top players. Not sure Christensen falls into this bracket, his symptoms coincided with his move. Wonder if he’s happy to take his pay packet and loyalty bonus?

Little bit more info. Some in the media claim AC wanted to play, was informed by TT he would be on the bench, refused to be involved if he was not starting and then left the hotel.

My Liverpool supporting mate found this all hilarious too. Have seen us called a "shower of sh*t" and a "laughing stock" that has been compared to United.

Charming as ever.

Social media or MSM?

I believe that was the daily star.

Has since seen a different paper praising Trev as he was not supposed to start the final, apparently AC was and pulled out Saturday morning. So who knows who is right.

Yes, Trev deserves praise for his showing. Had a very tough opening (as did the whole team) but overall he did well. I'm sure Diaz would have given AC the sort of run-around he had from Vinicius Jr in the home leg v Real. Maybe that is what was behind his baddy tummy.

Glad you and few others think so. There are a few on her who pan him every chance they can get.

Good riddance.  Flakey mentally and physically, even his facial expressions says to me "wimp"!!!  I agree with a previous poster, up there with Courtois, Judas Durie and Townsend.

In Saving Private Ryan, Christensen would be the coward character who drops the rest of them in it.

Nah, he'd be the bloke who took of his helmet after being shot.

I've literally not seen him getting 'panned' once.

Seen suggestions he is not good enough, should be sold etc. Posted him as my man of the match for the final and was told how wrong that opinion was and how hopeless he was.

Some very harsh comments here. If he is struggling with the pressure and finds himself unable to cope at times, it's hardly by choice. Don't use a lame "he has no business being a footballer" argument, as it's up to him. And please don't mock mental issues. Haven't we learned how crushing those can be for a sports person, or for everybody else for that matter?

Fair point Val makes, we don't know exactly what happened here. Sorry for my part.

Sounds like we dodged a bullet since he's leaving. Mental health and anxiety are real, but he's playing in the elite field, need a tough mentality to survive. If not, then it's not for him, regardless how good he is physically or technically.

If he has stress and anxiety in CHelsea, how the world we will be strong enough in Barcelona?

That's what I was thinking. If he has a problem, then surely either retire (or just take a break for a while) or stick with what you know, where your teammates are aware and is already some support and understanding in place.

If he is struggling mentally, then a move to Barcelona will be the last thing he needs.

Sounds like Barca can’t afford to register him as things stand. We should be offering him a fresh contract to see if he changes his mind.

Not for me after he messed us around. Just let him go find himself a new club.
