He didn’t though; the club screwed things up by only offering him an improved contract. He felt he deserved a sign on fee, & an agent’s fee.

Nah, he made his bed. He'll try and pull this off again in a couple years time whereas Colwill will likely play the majority of his career here should he live up to his potential.

Hmm maybe a base of 50k a week, further 50k per appearence, no agent fee, no signing on bonus, 5 year deal no release clauses.

Confirmed goner by the club. Spoken enough about the disappointing times but he's had good patches that helped us to get top 4 and crucially had an epic performance coming on for Thiago in the final. I'll at least thank him and remember him fondly for that.

Funny we announce he leaves but Barca dont announce signing him.

Anyways not disappointed to see him go.

How do buy out clauses work in Spain? Why doesn't every team not just place an extortionate release clause in their contracts?

I think it is a legal thing that all clubs in Spain have to do. If they made all their players extortionate then no club would ever make any money! When we signed Fabregas he had a buyout clause of £175m but we signed him for around £30m. Sometimes they put in extortionate ones but they're still willing to negotiate on a lower price.

Oh yeah i get that you will still negotiate a suitable deal, from a selling point it would just make sense to give every player a £500m release clause so you can negotiate on your own  terms and don't have the risk of someone triggering the clause against your will.

But the player would have to agree to that. I guess Barca and the two clubs from Madrid can do that because those clubs aren't seen as a stop gap for most / all players but why would a talented youngster from any other mid-table club agree to a 500m release clause? Only if the club would offer a huge pay rise - which they ultimately can't afford.

I suspect that they refer to the cervical spine, the neck vertebrae, which is what cervical in Spanish means (also in English, the cervical spine).

I sympathise if he has mental problems, but my god don't move to Barca or Madrid if you do. What an idiotic move from him, he's gonna have a long few years. Just imagine the backlash from fans and media when he makes a mistake, he'll have to be sectioned.

Maybe reading too much into that tweet, could be just lost in translation. However, a really strange tweet from the official account to call out player injury like that. His immediate problem be getting registered into the league, maybe a loan to Westham is on the cards if Barca can't pull a rabbit out of their ass soon 😄

Time for him to be moved to another section of the forum me thinks.
