August 9, 20169 yr Then wouldn't it be the best thing to come back to the place where he knows he's loved by the fans, where he played his best. Given his pedigree and his performances with us, would be worth a chance. Mata won't do worse than Fabregas even if he tried. Is this the same Fabregas that has won the world cup, euros, premier league and la liga and is probably the best chance creator in the league aside from maybe David Silva? And the same one who plays a different role to Mata? Where have you been to think that Fabregas has not done well for us?
August 9, 20169 yr Mata's a bit unlucky to be honest - the top sides in the league are all managed by people who demand a certain amount from their players off the ball, which Mata sadly isn't capable of. The exception would be Arsenal I suppose, but then they already have Ozil (who is, let's be honest, both better and younger). Unless he wants to drop down a tier in terms of quality, his best bet is probably to switch leagues. His agent should give Bayern a call - Ancelotti's never been scared of shoehorning in playmakers!

Fab played very well for first half of our title winning season, after that he hasn't done much, has he ? As for "chance creator", our attack has produced lethargic, sideways passing stuff for quite some time now. Lets be honest, only when Hazard has the ball do we really look threatening in attack. Mata contributed 19 goals and 35 assists in 64 games in 2012-13. Mata is a much better finisher and better at set pieces than Fabregas. Defense is neither's strong suit. But the biggest thing for me is that Mata truly had the club in his heart whereas Fabregas doesn't give a sh*t. Edited August 9, 20169 yr by Nick05
August 9, 20169 yr Mata is more of a shadow striker. He could play with Costa up front but that is the only place i can see him being a marginal success. He definitely cannot play Cesc's current role. If you think the midfield is porus with Cesc, it will be a whole new level with Mata. Mata is a good player but current football doesn't have a place for him in big clubs. If you make a team around him, he will be good. But he isn't one that you can do that. Better if he changes leagues. Yep, very much agree, a move back to Spain or the Serie A with teams who play decent footy like Roma or Napoli.
August 9, 20169 yr Mata's a bit unlucky to be honest - the top sides in the league are all managed by people who demand a certain amount from their players off the ball, which Mata sadly isn't capable of. If Mata had been born ten years earlier he'd be a God in the Premier League. He'd have got away with casually strolling around in the final third all game long if it meant he popped up the number of goals and assists he racked up for us in his first two seasons.

But the biggest thing for me is that Mata truly had the club in his heart whereas Fabregas doesn't give a sh*t. But the whole team has struggled since the first half of our title winning season, not just Fabregas, it's a deeper rooted issue. We play static football, when we open up a bit Fabregas dictates the game much more than Mata ever has and could. I loooooved Mata, and was gutted when we sold him, but Fabgregas is the objectively better player. I also disagree with Fabregas not giving a sh*t. He showed serious passion last season when we were struggling, and I think he should be our captain once JT goes. I think that Mata being a nicer bloke makes people more fond of him, but I, for one, don't believe that Cesc has ever shown anything but passion when playing for us.
August 9, 20169 yr Any chance of us going in for Mata or Bastian ? Mata, Hazard and Oscar were a scintillating attacking trio when playing together and Mata can really spark our attack to be the best in the league. As for Bastian, he would come cheap and be useful in case Matic's form doesn't improve. bastian is a solid no, not even for free.. he's at the end of his career and way too injury prone nowadays, not too mention the financial aspect getting him, bottomline is he's done and dusted.. as for mata, well I suppose it depends on the money and how many we'd let go.. There are still some players I would like us to sell before getting another attacking midfielder..
August 9, 20169 yr Mata doesn't fit at Chelsea right now. We struggle to control the midfield and often get overrun through the middle. There is nothing Mata can do to help that issue. I would rather we spent the money on a couple of defenders and another wide player then on a no.10
August 10, 20169 yr No, Mourinho for me is the best defensive coach. Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan he shown time again he can build a side that's extremely difficult to beat Mourinho was, but not anymore. Inter and beyond his team's conceded in the 30s league wise, Conte's Juve always remained early 20s.
August 10, 20169 yr Mourinho was, but not anymore. Inter and beyond his team's conceded in the 30s league wise, Conte's Juve always remained early 20s. It's really difficult and probably ultimately pretty pointless to compare defences across different years and divisions
August 10, 20169 yr I think what made Jose so efficient back then was that very few teams were playing the way he did, dogged defending, keeping everything really tight etc. He had to change a bit as other teams were then doing the same and it made for dreary, ineffective football (at times).
August 10, 20169 yr Surely Simeone is the best defensive manager? Atletico conceded 18 goals in the league last season. You could argue Pep is too. Bayern conceded around 20 in the league.

I would agree with Simeone - we certainly had trouble trying to break his teams down. But not Pep at Munich. Just isn't the strong competition week in week out in the German league to make their defensive record a meaningful stat.
August 10, 20169 yr Burnley boss Sean Dyche insists he'd be branded a 'dinosaur' for implementing methods used by Chelsea manager Antonio Conte and other celebrated foreign coaches. “Antonio Conte came in at Chelsea and he got commended for bringing a hard, fast, new leadership to Chelsea, which involved doing 800-metre runs, 400m runs and 200m runs," the Burnley boss said. “Come to my training and see Sean Dyche doing that and you’d say, ‘Dinosaur, a young English dinosaur manager, hasn’t got a clue’. So is it perception or is it fact? I have no problem with it. It’s the reality I say. Perception is radically different to what is going on with young English managers. Not really sure what he's on about here, must be talk within the footballing hierarchy about Conte's methods? We haven't played an official game yet so how do we know if his methods have worked and if they can be given a label?
August 10, 20169 yr Has anyone actually criticised his training methods or has he just made up his own narrative here?
August 10, 20169 yr Maybe someone said he looks like a dinosaur (which isn't entirely unfair) and he misheard.

Wouldn't be bothered to be honest, seems the out of practice training methods and tactics are successful these days. Recall watching a Leicester game last season and the commentator saying Ranieri was having success with his 442 formation ( while extinct in England) because CBs these days were trained to mark a one-striker system. August 10, 20169 yr just sounds like the usual english managers don't get a look in tripe to me Ive never got that either, British/English managers have got chances. Roy got a chance at Liverpool, made one of the biggest f**k ups i've ever seen got deservedly sacked and still got the England job after that, McLaren got the England job and f**ked it, Moyes got the United job and f**ked it, Hughes for the City job and f**ked it. Ironically the British manager that's got the best chance of succeeding at a top job is the one who had to wait the longest for it (Big Sam).

To be fair to them though, everyone is destined to f**k it with the England job. As for the Utd job, nobody would have got an easy time following Fergie.

I reckon Big Sam will be a relative success in England, he's just what the national team needs and it may not be easy following Fergie but in no universe should United be 7th in the league.
