I meant to say is that the game should have been put to bed far earlier, which a couple of early subs could have made happen so that we would have avoided such a tense finish.

The passion that Conte has, it just makes me smile every time I see it. Obviously puts it all into his club and country. It's exactly what we need after the fractured management of last season.

 

It's early, but the players are buying in and you can see the drive they have. Long may it continue.

I was just thinking about this, we know that Don Antonio wants to play the 424 - wouldn't Borini be a nice option to have to play in that withdrawn striker role? I remember when he played on CFC he had a bit of pace - has that ship totally sailed & left the harbor?

I think what people are getting at is you are drawing at home to Scum utd & battering them but cannot score. Make a change so the subs have a chance. Last night we pulled it off. Another night we go home with 1 point.

Amazing scene given that it's only the first game. Normally you see that after big games (semi finals etc). Di Matteo had that sort of celebration at Barca 2012.

Why, when it was Michy laying it off to Costa that got us the winning goal, would you have replaced a striker for a striker?  I think that the subs may have been a little late, yes.  However, it was pressing the game and changing to two up front that lead to the winning goal.

 

Other than the timing, I can't fault Conte at all on the plans.  Changed from a 4-3-3- to a 4-2-4 with [purpose.  Not like previously when we've seen strikers just thrown on for the sake of it, but kept the same formation. 

If Conte had made some subs and we conceded he would also get flack. We were in complete control, West Ham barskt got a whiff of the ball, there was zero need to change anything

Aside from his goal, I thought Costa was very poor and as has been discussed to death could have been sent off at any moment. Michy from what I've seen isn't as good a finisher, but links up better and would have given us fresh legs just as we began to let up on them. I might have been carried away in the moment, but at the time I thought literally any change we make would have led to our second.

the problem is we dont really create much for Costa to finish

 

and ofc the BPL style of stucking 9 players into the box doesnt help him to get more space too

 

this cause Costa need to always coming out from the box to try to get something going

Personally I'd put cesc as early as 2nd half starts replacing oscar and see where it goes from there then batshuayi 15 minutes later replacing whoever is the least effective..

I am really liking Conte. Smart, tactically astute and genuinely nice guy.

He's got a great tailor, I'll say that much. I'd love a suit that looks as good as his. Very dapper

I have a feeling Conte could become my favourite Chelsea manager, just because of his charisma and passion, and the fact that unlike Mourinho he's humble and genuine, the media won't be able to smear him so easily.
