Antonio Conte - Now Officially Manager

Featured Replies

Burnley boss Sean Dyche insists he'd be branded a 'dinosaur' for implementing methods used by Chelsea manager Antonio Conte and other celebrated foreign coaches.

“Antonio Conte came in at Chelsea and he got commended for bringing a hard, fast, new leadership to Chelsea, which involved doing 800-metre runs, 400m runs and 200m runs," the Burnley boss said.

“Come to my training and see Sean Dyche doing that and you’d say, ‘Dinosaur, a young English dinosaur manager, hasn’t got a clue’. So is it perception or is it fact? I have no problem with it. It’s the reality I say. Perception is radically different to what is going on with young English managers.

Not really sure what he's on about here, must be talk within the footballing hierarchy about Conte's methods?  We haven't played an official game yet so how do we know if his methods have worked and if they can be given a label?

keeps on like that and we'll have to rename him sean douche

i quite like eddie howe as far as english managers go. i reckon he could go a long way in coaching if he keeps doing well with bournemouth and is snapped up by a bigger, more ambitious club. our u18's coach seems to know his stuff as well and is only young, and seeing how the likes of pep and zidane started coaching the youth teams you never know where he could be in 10 years or less.

Conte’s changes are part of an overall plan to improve #CFC fitness. There have been no complaints to players’ increased workload (Times)

Antonio Conte has reportedly banned pizza, fizzy drinks, tomato ketchup and brown sauce at Chelsea. (Times) #CFC

As well as chasing Koulibaly, Conte could bring in another defender and a midfielder, with #CFC interested in Thiago Maia (Telegraph)

Strengthening the defence is Conte’s main priority and #CFC still expect to have a busy final 3 weeks of the transfer window (Telegraph)

Apparently Conte has banned fizzy drinks, pizza, sweets and sauces. No complaints from the players apparently.

I find it strange that professional athletes, who are grown men, aren't trusted not to pig out on junk food, so they are banned. A slice of pizza or a diet coke here and there will have no impact at all on either their weight or their performance. But the Don's word goes

Well nutrition is important for any true athlete. Boxers need to stay on a strict diet and they aren't running around all the time burning it off, but it's the way it is. It is important what goes into the body, and if artificial stuff is in these foods then it could affect the athletes performance (make them lethargic). It's important for footballers to be able to run around with adequate energy levels and not fatigue quickly, so making sure the diet is strict is a massive deal. I am surprised the players had so much crap food in the canteen tbh. Not professional way to live like an athlete really.

I could sort of understand where he's coming from.. 1 example would be leicester winning the league, imagine if the manager who made them champion was either pep/jose/klop etc, it would be no end of bigging up their achievement by lots of people

Always thought they are already on a strict diet. Would love someone to watch what I eat.

If you had Conte over your shoulder screaming at you if you ate something bad, you'd never eat again!

You mean like when Jose won the Champions League with Porto?

Apparently he has been doing the same sort of training and he is not getting any credit, hence the statement.

Except that Dyche has no idea what he's talking about. His source on Conte's training methods is from a Matt Hughes article in the Times: http://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/chelsea-braced-for-conte-boot-camp-37qfdjtb7

If he cared to pay attention, Dyche would notice that Conte is using interval training. 200m, 400m and 800m of intervals are fairly common practice. What Dyche refers to is running long distance laps, which is a waste of training time. A footballer doesn't need to run 5km, but they may need to be able to do 100 50m sprints.

Really hurts.

But surely no different expected. Man's a serial winner. Even his critics know this and even not even 3 separate seasons like he had last time with us will change that fact.

O come on, who ever gives a sh*t about pre season favourites. Who had Leicester as favourites?

And they've spent hundreds of millions on players and are league pets. It shouldn't surprise anyone.

Interval training has been around for many years now and I'm sure Jose, Sean and Antonio have been using the technique for years in preseason.  If that's all Sean's talking about then I find that very strange, I thought he must have been talking about something NEW

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte: We have a plan. We know this transfer market is very crazy. We must be patient to find the right solutions for the team, to improve this squad.

"I'm very happy to work with these players. They show great commitment every day."

"It's a very tough league. There are many great clubs who can fight to win the title.

"I'm excited and so are the players. We're in a good situation."

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte does not directly answer a question asking whether he has banned his players from eating pizza, saying "I bring my experience as a former player. A manager must try and improve the players in different aspects".

He adds that the English tradition of players listening to music in a dressing room before a game is a new one to him, but he likes it.

And says if it was up to him, "I would choose discotheque music. Boom, boom".

Chelsea boss Antoinio Conte: "We are working on a new idea of football. The team lost their confidence a bit in the last season. We are working on this."

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte won't answer a question about how many more players he wants to sign, and adds he won't necessarily play the wing-back formation he preferred with Juventus and Italy, saying it's about the "right fit".

Chelsea striker Bertrand Traore, 20, is going on loan to Ajax, confirms Blues boss Antonio Conte.

"We prefer him to play every game for a year. He's a good prospect."

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte on West Ham: "The match will be very good. They are a strong team.

"Last season they had a good season. They have a good manager and good, physical, fast players with great talent.

"Also it's a derby. These types of games are very tough. But we want to play and start the season.

"It's the first time for me for everything. To start with a derby is tough but I'm excited. It's important my players must start in the right way, to take confidence after a year last last year."
