Romelu Lukaku

The vast majority of Rashford's minutes have been out on the wing though. Lukaku isn't a player who can be shifted out wide.

While that's true he has been the go to guy up top when no Zlatan, just like Lukaku would have been when Diego was banned.

Seems to be a theme with this generation of Belgians.

They love the sound of their own voices

I guess Eden is a class above them in every regard.

We've done some poor business re strikers, although some of that has been the club's own doing:

- Sutton as mentioned ended up been a terrible purchase.

- Mutu started well but faded, we found out later due to drug problems.

- Kezman was a complete flop (still at least he scored in the League Cup final)

- Shevchenko was 29 when we signed him and coming off a knee operation.

Pizarro, a free signing sure wasn't exactly good business still has he had very little impact.

- Torres had some major injury problems at Liverpool, they really did a number on us with that one getting the fee up to £50 mil for a player they knew was on the decline.

I also remember a certain Robert Fleck. We paid a lot of money for us at the time, 2.1 million if I remember correctly. Came from Norwich with a pretty decent scoring record. He couldn't hit a barn door for us. Give him his credit, he never stop trying.

The song for him was to the Yellow Submarine tune !!!.

He's before my time really. I mean looking at Wikipedia he was there in 94-95 which is when I started supporting Chelsea but I was only a wee lad.

I think we signed Fleck in '92

Considering the amount of money Utd had spent, and the gulf in quality, I thought we done well for about 60 mins, Peacock hit the bar with a cracker of a shot. Can't remember if it was the first or second Utd penalty that was a complete dive. I was just happy to enjoy the day of our first FA Cup final for years.

The mid 90s were the period where we started to see the green shoots of our contemporary success, before that (80's) it was mainly pretty grim on the pitch, following Chelsea at the time was tough, Liverpool and Spuds both had success in the league and cups, whilst we struggled to play top flight.

You picked the right time to be born.

It don't matter how you paint it up, my eternal memory of this game is the long WET walk home, drowned inside and out, walking three steps sideways and one forwards, followed by monsta f**king hangover. it was not good mate.

La Liga in incomparable to the Prem. Any team below the top 3-4 in La Liga would struggle to stay in the top half of the prem. Lukaku has never played against tough CL opposition but with his physicality he'd dominate the majority of Spanish defences. Lukaku's one season in the Europa league at the age of 22 and he managed to get top scorer in the competition. Fact is Mandzukic scored more in less games at Juve.

Yea la Liga is so crap that Sevilla won the Europa League while coming 7th in the league.

I was born in '84'so I think around the mid 90s I was just the right age, funny thing is although I liked football in those days I was hooked on wrestling back then, so defeats didn't really bother me as much in those days. Complete contrast to now haha.

Almost as good as that English club that won the Champions League whilst finishing 6th in the premier league.

What he meant to say was he thought you was a grumpy old git, not a young grumpy c**t !

I don't believe the issue is with Lukaku in big games but with Everton & the players they have at there disposal.

Unfortunately they have an aging and slow back line in Jagielka, Williams & Baines therefore when they play some of the bigger teams they just have to play deeper otherwise they will be picked off with teams getting in behind them. With the back line deep this pushes the midfield back leaving Lukaku isolated. This means he will need to hold up the ball against 2-3 defenders and rely on runners who in all honesty are incredibly inconsistent. I really believe put him in a better team and he will flourish even against the bigger teams.

Absolutely starved of service when we beat them both times. The 5-0 game I can't remember him getting anything to latch onto. I'd take him in a heartbeat regardless of Costa leaving. All indications are he wants to play here again and win trophies.  He's got his best years ahead of him. I'll take 25 goals a season against the lower 15 clubs any day.

To those who say he cant handle big games, take a look at who we've buttered our bread against this season, it ain't the top 5. How many has Costa put in against the other top clubs this season? Thats a bunk argument. Lukaku has 3 to Costa's 2

As for the semi, totally in undeserved, against the best team in the world away from home, one central defender sent off and one off injured and 2-0 down all in the first half, flukily one final on penalties after parking bus for 120 minutes, worst team ever to win it!!!!!! They are "The only London team to win the European cup"

Lukaku was never going to score against his future employer. I've faith that if we do get big Rom, he'll be brilliant for us. Hes carrying Everton to a top 7 finish with 24 league goals.
