Following Our Nearest & Dearest Rivals, 2016/2017

when you look at liverpool on paper their team is mightily underwhelming, but they look very strong. just shows the importance of working as a TEAM, not relying on individuals. this ideology is benefiting both pool and us.

TBH did anyone expect Liverpool to not win today?

Its not like we're massively behind them and it's way to early to be getting over excited about been top.

It's never too early for Liverpool fans to get over excited.

Really? The only issues I see they have is to do with their defensive organisation -- in particular among set pieces. Their attack is spectacular and each individual player they've had from last season has now improved.

It pains me to say but I think the Dippers may end their PL drought this season.

Well, the Cubs did win the world series ffs.

they're sh*t at the back, clyne has been extremely dodgy lately, milner's never a fullback and they have friggin lucas leiva at center back

right on cue

Our trip to Anfield will be like a German heavy metal band (Klopp) going up against an Italian classical orchestra (Conte).

It'll be one hell of a show based on both teams current form.

Us, Arsenal and United better hope we get knocked out of Europe nice and early or this will be a battle between Conte and Klopp for the title, The no Europe factor is huge, You can tell from the energy levels of both sides compared to us and Arsenal. Quite embarrassing for Pep/Jose to be outshone given the preseason hype, Wenger won't feel embarrassed at all, If anything just merely competing has been a significant upgrade for that club from the pathetic stuff that has gone on in previous years, If anything he might get a contract extension.

I've never wished to go out of Europe soon, English clubs spend money like water. Each of them should be able to compete in both.

That is the thing, ALL English clubs spend money like water, When Palace are buying £30 million strikers, You know it's competitive. Has the Premier League ever been as competitive as it has been the past 2/3 years? Sure back 5/10 years ago you could win in Europe and then thrash Villa away on the Saturday but now with the money and how competitive each side is, You need to be at 100 %. Take a look at the Hull v Southampton game, If Hull played Southampton in a non European week, Southampton make them look like the dog and duck yet because they had a huge game against Inter, Their intensity levels were not there and they got beat by the dog and duck. Having said that, The bigger teams will work out a way of rotating their squad to the point where they can be competitive in Europe and then play at higher than 70 % the following game. This league is so competitive and unpredictable, You can go away to a team lower in the table and get beat 3/4-1 without the world stopping, Without even questioning what happened as you know it can. How many times have Watford/West Ham/Stoke beaten one of the big boys by a 2 goal margin? Plenty of times.

Still though, big European nights are unmatchable. Wanting to go out of Europe is something I can't imagine saying. Yes the premier league is more competitive than ever, but look at what clubs like City, United and ourselves have spent over the last 3 years compared to teams like hull and Swansea. I don't think we should be using Europe as an excuse too much.

That is one difference between Spanish and English fans, if you ask any Real Madrid/Barsa/Atlético/Athletic or any other team's fans if they preferred to win the Cahmpions League or the Spanish league, there'd be no hesitation in replying the CL. Wanting to come out of Europe to compete in the local league is something which I can't even think as a Chelsea supporter. We need to be able to compete in Europe and in the league.

Also, even drawing this weekend after a week of European football, City is still in a good position to compete for the league title. So no, I dont understand that mentality.

I hear that but back in the day all your title rivals were also in Europe, This year our two biggest title rivals arguably haven't got Europe. If we progress to the quarter finals or further of the CL, The title is going to the bridge or Anfield imo.  It would be another thing if we were significantly better than those rivals but if we played Liverpool or Chelsea tomorrow, I wouldn't be betting on a win for us, Both sides look complete, Where as we have nagging issues mainly Kompany's fitness.

For me the bread and butter always trumps Europe, I'd rather be the best side in my country than have to rely on the luck of the draw in Europe, Remember the best side in Europe doesn't always win the CL but the best side in the league does, Don't get me wrong i'd take both but if i had to choose, The league first always.

I turned the dippers game off at 2-0....f**k that.

not overly concerned at the mo, still think they are frail at the back and Watford have looked sh*t every time I have watched them this season.

still early days for all.
