Following Our Nearest & Dearest Rivals, 2016/2017

Thought Arsenal were very good in the first half but it was obvious they couldn't concede if they were to narrow the gap - they were never going to win it. The penalty and the sending off made the rest of the game meaningless, unless of course you are in the media and want to recreate an unholy fuss. Klickity klick!

Ideal timeline for me would be:-

1. Arsenal win 5 games in a row. Wenger signs new contract.
2. Arsenal fan meltdown.
3. Form dips and Arsenal miss out on top 4.
4. Arsenal fan meltdown.
5. Wenger sees out contract and leaves club in 2019.
6. Arsenal fans rejoice.
7. Piers Morgan is found dead at home after his celebratory asphyxiw**k goes wrong.
8. Arsenal sign David Moyes on 6 year contract.
9. Arsenal fan meltdown.
10. Moyes hints at big signing.
11. Arsenal fans mildly optimistic.
12. Wenger joins Barcelona and spends £200 million on players in his first few weeks.
13. Arsenal fan meltdown.
14. Moyes spunks entire summer transfer budget buying Fellaini from Utd.
15. Arsenal fan meltdown, realising when Moyes said big he was actually talking about height.
16. Wenger wins league in first year at Barcelona
17. Arsenal fan meltdown.

I agree with most of that but we were the same to some extent with Jose. You heard some guff on here calling him names and wanting him sacked on the spot despite him bringing things to the club that we never had for 50 years.

Fans of any club are going to turn on managers when they start to decline, it's a miracle it's taken this long with Wenger tbh. It's been a decade of underachieving watching clubs around you grow while you stagnate into a Liverpool. I don't really blame any of their fans wanting him out, they have given him long enough to sort the mess out...winning titles 10 years previously doesn't really make what's happening today acceptable IMO.

I get what you're saying mate but the argument could be made without Wenger they wouldn't even be playing in the champions league.

I think it needs to be taken in to account who they're coming up against in the champions league as well, granted I don't think they'd embarrass us the way Arsenal have been but would I be overly surprised of being knocked out by Barca or Bayern over two legs if it was us? Probably not.

I know there's been a couple of years where they've been knocked out by lesser teams but a lot of the time they get horrific draws.

Maybe I'm just clutching at straws for him to stay :blush2:

Just read this over at the BBC

No escaping the facts

- The Gunners are the first side to lose five consecutive home knockout ties in Champions League history.

- Arsene Wenger's side suffered the joint second heaviest aggregate defeat in Champions League history (2-10), and the highest for an English team.

- This is the first time Arsenal have conceded five goals at home since November 1998 (against Chelsea in League Cup - a 5-0 loss).

I think their squad is as good if not better than ours. If anything they have been under-acheiving massively for the last 5 years.

Its not just the quality of the squad, its also the fact that its a "settled" squad, with a "settled" manager and "settled" system. By now most of that squad should know the others inside out. They have been playing together for some time, yet its the same story every year.

What wenger has done for the last 3/4 years, can be done by any top manager in the world.

There squad as good or better than ours? That's very questionable.

the only player that I think they have who would walk into Chelsea is Sanchez.

The rest for me are too light weight and mentally weak (which may be instilled by wenger).

At least now they have been knocked out of the CL, they can concentrate on qualifying for the CL.....

Yep it's the same old, same old, every bloody year.  And they're not the only ones - look at Liverpool against Real, resting their players because they were playing us at the weekend!

Thomas Tuchel:

‘If I were the coach of Chelsea, Juve or Atletico, maybe I would come up with a different answer.

‘But when the floodlights go on tomorrow night in Dortmund and all the people will support us, then it is about attacking.’

No idea what this mans problem is, or if he has even seen us play this season, but talk about a complete lack of respect, would fit Arsenal nicely. Though this was quoted in the mirror, so take it with a grain of salt.

Didn't realize it but City are actually playing tonight. At home against Stoke so one would assume they win but there is always a chance of an upset in this league.

A point for Stoke would almost kill the league surely?

Stoke will fall apart like they did against Spurs. useless side with nothing to play for.

True. But since getting into the league in 2008, they have never really been in danger of relegation all this time. A comfortable, mid-table team. But good lord, if you were a player there would be absolutely no reason to play for them. Living in Stoke? You must be joking; it's a total sh*t-hole (I went to uni there).

Mark Hughes is living the life of riley. Never any expectation of them but to stay up.

Stoke got a point at Old Trafford and at home to Manure as well.  But tbf they've also lost some matches which you would've thought they should have got something out of.

So I don't really expect much from them tonight.

And yeah, Stoke is a sh*t-hole.  But within an hour you could be in Shropshire!

Until they play us on March 18...more often than not they raise their game against us

Really excited about the game between Barca and PSG tonight. Should be fascinating.

Me too, definitely be watching that over Man City vs Stoke.
