Riyad Mahrez to Chelsea?

Featured Replies

A good one I think we do.

Oscar isn't a very good playmaker, he turns up for a few months then that's about his lot.

Willian isn't really a guy who creates loads either.

Oscar is one of those enigmas, he has everything to be a good playmaker, but somehow he just doesn't perform the role, though I would like to see him in a 3 man midfield, I've always seen him more as a box to box player than just a number 10, and i think from deeper he could perform well, but after 4 years, I think this season is make or break to be honest.

As of right now we really only have Cesc and Eden, I agree that Mahrez would be a good addition, play hazard through the middle and Mahrez and Pedro on the wings, then we'd have a bit more creativity. All depends on the formation of course, if we're only playing with two wingers and no dedicated number 10, then I think, while he would be an amazing addition, we could get by without buying another attacking midfielder/ winger.

I get that but you did say we needed a central midfield playmaker, and while i agree there are players that can drop deep or narrow from other positions, i dont think mahrez is that sort of player. He tends to stay forward and plays much higher up the pitch.

Do we really need another playmaker in general though? I think we are pretty stacked in that respect.

Ok I said the wrong position, he plays a little more forward or wider of central, still a bloody good player.

A lot of games we struggle to break down defences, in these games, we need players with that special brain.

If we could move on Oscar, Cuadrado and Moses and bring in Mahrez for those combined players I think we would have a better balanced side...attacking wise anyway.

I know that's highly unlikely to happen but in an ideal situation scenario.

I agree he is a top player, i just dont think he is particularly the right player for us at the moment.

I dont actually think a lack of a playmaker, or a creative midfielder is what we lacked last season. I think our problems stemmed from leaking too many goals in, and not doing enough of the dirty work in midfield to let our attacking players play to their potential.

Just to clarify, in my mind i see a playmaker as someone who tictates tempo, like xavi or modric, and i see mahrez as more of an attacking midfielder.

If fabregas is a starter then i think we will be okay.

I have smilar thought, move on some players 1st for mahrez to come..  cuadrado, mikel, matic, moses..  I'd keep oscar for 1 more season unless somebody offers more than 40mils.. I think oscar and willian can play CM role that matic play if needed, no problem..

Wish we would've sold Oscar to China for £59m or whatever it was. Probably was the players choice to stay, which I know has been suggested by some posters already.

Ranieri admits Mahrez is distracted by Arsenal talk. Why aren't we in for this guy?

Probably because we're already massively overstocked with attacking midfielders as it is.

We probably simply don't have the room. We will need to sell/loan before we add any more attacking midfielders I'd imagine.

Cuadrado, Moses, Hazard, Willian, Kennedy, Pedro, Oscar

I expect 2 of the above to leave in Cuadrado and Moses again and then hopefully we can shift Oscar which would see us in the market in that area. I doubt if available Mahrez would still be about even if that above scenario was to play out.

Any good ones besides Hazard?

Chelsea player of the year Willian did okay last season.

But more to the point we have 6/7 players currently in the squad as attacking midfielders. The defence is a bit of a mess right now and the area that is most in need of investment.

It would eat up a lot of time and resources selling/loaning the majority of the current attacking players to free up squad space/wages to sign yet another.

I just think Mahrez is seen as a priority and that would be my guess why we're not in for him.

He was the best of a bad lot.

But yeah, that makes sense.

We really, really need to move oscar and Pedro on. In a 4-4-2 system they will weigh us down.

Pedro should never have been signed unless we were going to play a 4-3-3. I wouldn't mind seeing him play as a shadow striker like Hazard did against Madrid though. He seems to have a mean shot on him.

Anyone else wondering why this thread is so bloody active. We've not been linked to him in weeks.

If he's off then it's to the Emirates probably with someone like Walcott going the other way

We should swap Oscar + cash for Mahrez.

Can we just close this thread?  He ain't coming here.

I bet you he will.
