July 20, 20169 yr http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/36844570 I would be worried about Costa under this rule. He will definitly have to control himself more. Under the new guidelines, red cards will be issued to players who confront match officials and use offensive language. Behaviour within the technical areas will also be more rigorously enforce
July 20, 20169 yr So hard to police these kinds of thing because it's so open to interpretation. Just because Costa appears aggressive doesn't mean that he's actually doing anything wrong.
July 20, 20169 yr So hard to police these kinds of thing because it's so open to interpretation. Just because Costa appears aggressive doesn't mean that he's actually doing anything wrong. Officials wont think twice now with this new rule which is the problem. Everyone knows about Costa's aggression and short fuse...so it will be wind up time and poor Diego at times looks like he has no control over his emotions on the park. I just feel this will hinder the big fella and us.
July 20, 20169 yr Seems like a ridiculous rule. More red cards and less fair games is all it will achieve. We're adults, what's a bit of offensive language gonna do??
July 20, 20169 yr Can you really see them enforcing that? Everyone will be getting banned. really hope they do it though, get some respect into the game its become a bit of a joke.
July 20, 20169 yr I for one welcome this. We are not harsh enough in the PL when it comes to this sort of thing. These are professional footballers, grown men for chrissake, who should know better than behaving in such a manner. It's about time the PL commanded more respect like Rugby, and sent off the aggressive twats who advance on referees. Edited July 20, 20169 yr by Blueblur
July 20, 20169 yr More refs, more rules about behaviour, every year new rule about offside, passive offside, active offside, penalties... one word - trash. Is it that hard to put one hawk eye like ATP did, to give the coaches 3 chalenges about EVERYTHING and to integrate it? This is what football needs. One fu**ing hawk eye system. And stop changing our favourite game, suc**rs.. Fifa has to follow ATP's model not NBA or F1. Edited July 20, 20169 yr by Pendergast
July 20, 20169 yr How would it even work in regards to foreign players who don’t speak the lingo? I mean Costa could be ranting in Spanish but how would they know if he was using bad language towards them? To me with those players they will just go with the reaction and intimidation and not bother with what is being said.
July 20, 20169 yr Yet more protection for referees to make any decision they want to throw out! Not that calling them a chunt makes any difference but it makes the point.
July 20, 20169 yr If I was Conte I would just tell every player bar our captain to stay away from the officials, don't speak to the officials at all, don't approach them and don't even look at them. If we have to appeal for a penalty/ free kick, then do it quickly and respectfully. And cut out the imaginary card waves as well.
July 20, 20169 yr The way footballers behave to referees would be the worst in any professional sport in the world. It's appalling sometimes and everyone is guilty of it. I hate red cards but I don't mind the rule Edited July 20, 20169 yr by Van Butsen
July 20, 20169 yr "Pardon me old bean, but I rather thought that was a foul. I don't want to be a moaning minnie but I think that tackle went beyond the usual rough-and-tumble."
July 20, 20169 yr If they introduce this rule then they need referees to be accountable for their mistakes. Match bans, interviews about decisions etc. They aren't above criticism.
July 20, 20169 yr Hopefully it will stop the overly aggresive behaviour we sometimes see towards officials. Its okay having a bit of a moan, but screaming in someones face shouldnt be acceptable. Hopefully it filters down into grass roots, and encourages more referees into the game.
July 20, 20169 yr Good rule, hopefully will add some respect for the officials into the game. Make it more like rugby, only the captain or a player addressed by the referee should speak to him. They make mistakes, sure, but spitting profanity in their face that is clearly visible or sometimes audible on TV won't change their mind and sets a sh*tty example for youngsters watching. I don't see it as a problem, players can still debate with the ref without getting up in their face and screaming at them. Grown men ffs.
July 20, 20169 yr They aren't above criticism. The thing is, they are. They literally have carte blanche to do whatever the f**k they like.
July 20, 20169 yr I hope it does, the way players act on the field is an absolute disgrace, NO player should be able to eff and blind at the refs the way footballers do.Even if it affects us short term with Costa I for one would love to see the ref just brandishing a red as soon as one of the spoilt brats tells him to 'f**k off', or sceams at him for giving a throw to the other side despite the fact it's blatantly the correct decision in a hope of swinging one their way later.I'm with bjd though.. unfortunately it wont last, if it gets going at all !
July 20, 20169 yr If they introduce this rule then they need referees to be accountable for their mistakes. Match bans, interviews about decisions etc. They aren't above criticism. Chelsea v Tottenham back end of last season comes to mind. If a player can receive punishment, then so should the officials.
July 20, 20169 yr They ban harsh language but not diving. It is like fixing a car radio antenna although your all tires are flat. Edited July 20, 20169 yr by evissy
July 20, 20169 yr This is not a new rule, the rules have stated that foul and abusive language is a red card offence for years. It will continue to not be enforced. I am sure that if a player swears right in the refs face he may be sent off but it will not be enforced for every "fcuk off" directed at them from any distance. There should never be a rule that is going to be so blatantly inconsistent from referee to referee. This is way too dependant on both the personality and tolerance levels of individual referees.
July 20, 20169 yr I always thought that this rule was around for a few years now, isn't this why we have those respect armbands ?
