This is a horrible attitude. Going out of any competition is a big deal. There is no reason why we can't focus on both the league and cup games seeing as we don't have any European football this season.

Think some rusty performances by terry, William, Oscar,

this is was a team that made 7 changes to the Man U game.

Lets hope we beat Southampton

hope Conte learned a few things from that:

firstly, don't show up in a track suit when your game day kit is suited and booted - it tells the players you don't really care about the match

secondly, don't play JT in a back 3; stick with what's been working

thirdly, don't play Oscar and Willian in the same side, they suck the life out of our play

fourthly, don't leave Moses at home with his feet up we need his energy right now

lastly, you can't make 7 changes playing a London derby away from home and expect to get away with it

I think he has to wear the track suit etc as part of his contract. Increase sales etc, corporate bollocks.

Like many, disappointing not to win and i am not too concerned as we generally played ok and create a lot of chances. Just couldn't finish them - wasn't our night.

If we had lacked fight, we're a mess etc then I would be concerned but we looked ok given that there was 7 changes.

Also, Oscar needs to step his him up massively. He does nothing - so frustrating.

Disappointed from tonight, I thought we should go as far as we can in that competition, this trophy is important to us, especially to Conte.

I also disappointed with Conte's changes tonight, I don't know why Oscar deserves to play a full match when he was the worst player on the pitch. Chalobah offered more attack than him, to be honest. Aina wasn't bad in our defence, I don't remember a player running over him, or him missing a header, or missing a ball - what I actually saw with Terry and Cahill.

Batshuayi had a poor game, but I thought he could perform well with Costa together and Hazard behind them.

Anyways, now we should focus on Southampton, COME ON CHELS!!

I'd rather focus on us winning every game that is put in front of us. You can't pick and choose when you want to play.

Tonight the changes caught up with us, too many against a side who wanted it a little more than we did in a derby match. Defensively we were poor as a unit and not ruthless enough in the final third. Chalobah looked on going forward but was naive defensively, the minutes gained will add to his experience,he will learn. Aina ditto. Disappointingly Bats looked lightweight, his poor finish in the first half was decisive. Oscar and Willian were poor and JT now looks like the years have caught him up. This was a chance of silverware, we now have a lot less games to focus on and top four is a must.

Spot on Scott.
Chelsea have always had a reputation of taking all comps seriously. Making 7 changes made it obvious that this wasn't a priority and we're there for the taking tonight. I can't stand losing to these pikies and expect the manager to know or at least to have been briefed the games that Chelsea fans hate losing. With no European excursions we should have enough in our squad to take everything seriously.

Southampton game will let us know how far we've come on since the Arsenal debacle and if we have a serious chance of challenging come the end of the season or if Sunday was just a flash in the pan.

Not too bothered. Conte clearly wanted answers and he got many. Like i would rather have JT start here too show he can't play in this kind of system then at Southampton at the weekend.
Overall a poor performance by many and its also clear we need proper, proper wingbacks for this system to work. Like Moses and Alonso. Aina and Azpi didn't cut it there.

Winning the League Cup can give a side great momentum, I don't get why clubs don't take it seriously - especially if you're not in Europe. Look at Liverpool v Spurs last night that really was a reserve fixture. Apart from anything else it's not fair on fans paying good money to follow their team.

Dissapointing night in the end we did look very disjointed as anyone would making 7 changes, the pikeys played pretty much full strength and they just seemed a bit more up for this one being at home and all.

Back to business this weekend though hopefully we can get back where we left off against united and smash southampton. UTC

As for the pikeys kicking off at the end no great surprise, it will never stop til there teams are disqualified from these tournaments or deducted points, silly c**ts.

There speaks the voice of someone who obviously doesn't get it. It IS a big deal, and even moreso given who knocked us out of a cup competition we have won several times.

I agree with @MariaCFC.

Who would be happy if we won the EFL but didn't get into Europe next year?

Top 4 is really fecking hard these days.

We had a bunch of shots that could have gone in tonight, they didn't.   A bunch of players got loads of minutes...too many at once obviously.  No-one likes losing to that lot, obviously.

But top 4 is really hard...and this gives us an advantage especially against Liverpool, ManU and the arse in the league.

Yeah...we're not doing that.

At least the performance was somewhat there, even if the result was not, so hopefully not a total loss of momentum.

Not being in the League cup isn't going to make things any less harder you know. If we managed to get to the final it would have only been 4 extra games.....it's hardly a lot now is it ?  By going out of a cup competition, we haven't gained any advantage at all. All that has happened is that we have lost a bit of momentum.

Well of course we would all prefer that but thankfully some of us have a more realistic view. You seem to have expectations way beyond realistic. Our chances of winning the league this season are remote, finishing in the top 4 would be an achievement.

Next best is winning a trophy, the only one left available now is the FA Cup and I would be more than happy with that.
