the problem is we won't get any pen today for sure. the ref knows he has to give the next pen call for brighton!! Problem is us as football fans and supporters in a stadium can be asses sometimes and unnecessarily boo/give refs sh*t when they were actually right. It's normal, but definitely has an influence on the ref.

Cue conspiracy theoriests suggesting this proves the FA made mistakes last game and that’s why they aren’t giving Brighton penalties or something equally as ludicrous as that. 

Zappacosta for Moses and Barkley on at 70 minutes. We need a third to make this safe. We do look shaky.

Good start, slipped a gear or so since then and Brighton look like causing us problems. Need to up the tempo and get another quick-fire goal in the 2nd half to try and kill it off.

Batman is so much better than Morata. It's not even close. If he is still here Wednesday and Morata starts I would seriously start to consider Conte as very unfair coach.

Another match, another terrible performance from Bakayoko. We got lucky Moss didnt blow the whistle at least once. Not to mention he could do it twice, nobody would blame him. 

Willian and Hazard - our best duo. No idea why they don't play together more. Actually I've got some but I already spoke about Conte inequity.

As good as we've looked going forward in months. Bit sloppy in defence at times with Willy both hero and villain in that regard. Let's get another goal and get Sterling and Charly on for some minutes!

yep, most of brighton's decent chances or attacking momentum is coming from alonso's side. he is standing there and leaving too much space between him and his man. bakayoko hasn't been that bad, but he also played a full game in midweek too and again today, and kante hasn't been on his game today either so that lack of legs/form in midfield is hampering us a bit. cabellero is putting next to no confidence in our defence with his acrobatic saves and confidence behind the defence. i rate parts of cabellero's game, but i see now why he is miles behind courtois as a keeper. courtois would have been out and caught the ball on numerous occasions, rather than swatting it away.

caballero worries me (apart from the super save) he just can’t hold on to the ball from crosses.

Actually, Courtois is so good at claiming them that we see a stark difference in that aspect. Willy should do better at it but it was still what the average GK would have done.

fair play and agreed.

tiredness and injuries can be a legit excuse today. kante, christensen, azpilicueta, bakayoko all played half a game or full game in midweek, and as well as alonso, those are where our defensive lapses are coming from. only got ourselves to blame for that midweek game though, nobody else. we should have not let it go to a second leg.

Houhton will have noticed Willy's gaffs and Alonso struggling, this could be a long half and the match is far form over yet.

1st one was a pen imo if the ball didn't reach the other Brighton player.

Brighton are trying to attack down our left to expose the lack of pace of Alonso. If they move our back three around enough they may get back in the game. The move down the right for the header that Willy saved is just one example.

as much as i keep faith in batshuayi, today his movement and passing has been poor. needs a loan and game time, his lack of confidence is visible.

Willian was stone wall. Morata has a reputation and he is rightly suffering for it.

sorry but I really hate when people say that. if referees let reputation of a player clouds his judgement, he's already wrong in the first place. so saying that he might have dived because we've seen it before adds nothing to the discussion really

yep, definitely a penalty. we can't go saying an eye for a eye because we missed out on one midweek. brighton should have had the penalty as there was sufficient contact.

come on chelsea get an early goal 2nd half and kill brighton's momentum off. i don't trust willy in goal  and am nervous he's going to do something stupid, already got lucky with the penalty appeal. he could cost us the game if he makes any more stupid decisions. he needs to be more confident and imposing in goal.

How long is Alvaro banned for ?
