And I'm not just talking about the louts out in the Netherlands! Was just over on the other forums, and some of the anti-England team bile is almost Scouse like hatred! Would have thought football supporters would be able to get behind their country!

England fans have had a bad reputation with hooliganism over the years, with some twats letting everyone else down. I guess other people couldn’t give a toss about the national team anymore, because they’ve been complete let downs for years. I myself can’t bring myself to stop watching them, because I’m still a proud Englishmen and I still care, even if I’m in the minority. I think the youth teams success should give everyone some hope.

The travelling fans are a disgrace. Same old sh*t in Amsterdam, chucking bottles, chairs and bikes at tourists and police. You’d think they’d have learnt their lesson when the Russians tour them apart in France. They’re cowards who when up against people who’re actually up for a fight have nothing to show. Morons of the highest order.

Couldn't care less about the national team tbh. Club before Country always. Just got to hope no Chelsea player get injured before we get knocked out to a team ranked 80th in the first round.

That's your prerogative of course, but it's all very Scousish if you ask me. I thought I'd wandered onto RAWK yesterday reading the other site, all very anti England!

I'm exactly the same though.

I'll always garner way more enjoyment from watching Chelsea than England because I'm so much more emotionally invested.

Last time I watched England play was probably the Iceland game but I make very little effort to watch England because the games are so rarely entertaining.

I just find the idea that you are supposed to support a team because the players are from your country of birth as being quite archaic.

Week to week I hate players like Dele Ali and Ashley Young but suddenly I'm meant to get behind them because they've put a different shirt on?

Chelsea is my sole love and passion when it comes to football.

Wow, this bitterness is unbelievable! Firstly, I never have a hatred for other teams players, it's nonsense, because you never know whether that player you hate so much is going to become a Chelsea player. Just like Fabregas or Cole, two players who used to get venom spat at them on the regular when they played for Arsenal.

And secondly, how many other countries in the world would hate their players as much as we English do? It's weird IMO? Just because you support a certain team, you can't enjoy an international match because it contains your rival teams players?!

I fully embrace the petty tribalism of football.

All the while Dele Ali is showing Tom Daley a thing of two about diving for Spurs I'll dislike him (hate was maybe a bit too strong a word). True of any player, I don't like them because they're not playing for Chelsea... If the day comes they pull on a Royal Blue jersey, you can bet I'll quickly change my tune about them because you know what? That's the fun of football.

And yeah, I struggle to get behind an England team exactly because it's made up of players from rival teams. I struggle to just flick a mental switch and go from being against them to being for them. Too many Spurs players in the current set up for my liking....

I don't expect it to make sense to everyone but then I think most of the way a lot of us emotionally approach football doesn't make sense... That's why it's escapism, it doesn't have to make sense.

I used to go to a lot of England games but stopped because of the anti Chelsea bias directed to Terry, Lampard and Cole. Chelsea were the best represented of all teams from the 70's to Euro 96. Now what you have is England's support that is full of Mansfield, Bury and Cheltenham fans who go especially to away games because they like going where they see decent football and the away support is in it's thousands rather than the 50 to 60 they are used to.

The top clubs fans are used to away trips abroad and don't bother with England because supporting a premiership club is bloody expensive so again matches at Wembley are full of day trippers from Stockport and Exeter etc. Why anyone would want to go to Russia in the Summer is beyond me it's a suicide mission and even if you did get innocently nicked or for something trivial the way relations between the countries are now you'd probably get six months for pissing in an alleyway.

The Russian fans are not hooligans they are trained like an army and are going to be hunting in packs and you know there's going to be some idiotic English fans who are going to get pissed up and sing anti Putin songs. The police won't intervene and no amount of bottle throwing is going to deter those Russian Keith Moons.

Agree with a lot of that though think Russia will protect the World Cup Venues as a matter to protect their reputation as a centre for hosting world events, just hope we don't meet Russia.

I still care about England, but it's not even anywhere close to how much i care about Chelsea. I used to watch every game involving England, i would never forget a game, but that has changed in recent years. I completely forgot about the game against Italy the other day.

I have been watching England since i was 7, i'm 29 today and i have had very few positive experiences as a fan. 22 years of watching England and there has been a tiny handful of positive moments, the rest has been full of misery. Let down after let down after let down. I look at Wales in the Euro's 2 years ago, the players and the fans will take great memories from that, where is that moment for us England fans? I'm not expecting trophies, but give me something positive to remember at least. In my life time, there has been two great highs as an England fan, the 5-1 against Germany and the Beckham free-kick against Greece, everything else has been between average and terrible. It's pitiful.

Even when England has less quality than ever before, they still find a way to disappoint (like being embarrassed by Finland) You can set your expectations so low and England will still find a way perform even worse than that! We are now at the point where i am expecting England to struggle to get out of their world cup group, even when Belgium is the only team that should cause England any problems. It's England, it's what they do.

It annoys me when i hear people like Sterling say "i feel sometimes there is too much negativity. I would love to hear some positive notes coming in, just to let the boys know everyone is behind them"..............We have been doing that for years and where has it got us? nowhere. Every other country in the world is laughing at us, and it's because of how predictably bad we are. There isn't a single country in the world that has performed below expectations as often as England has. My question to Sterling is, what have i got to be positive about? The football is still pretty turgid and the results are nothing to get excited by. I have seen nothing about this current set of England players that makes me think things will be different this time. It's up to England players to raise my expectations now, i don't know how they can expect anymore from the fans when they have been performing below expectations for so long now.

I feel like you aren't as emotionally invested in Chelsea as some of the rest of us if you can somehow tolerate and support rival players this easy. Players that will happily go out and injure a Chelsea player or cheat against us.

I think i'm in the same boat as you. Euro 2000 was the first International tournament i can really remember watching so my disappointment with the England team started from the very get go. I think the last game i watched was the knockout to Iceland. I was in Cyprus at the time surrounded by football fans in a boozer and watching Harry Kane smash corners out for throwings and a team like Iceland putting in so much more effort than us was enough for me. It was simply embarrassing.

If we turned up to an International tournament and showed passion and fought for the badge i'd be a little more interested in watching but the half hearted 'i'm too good for these' attitude by most of the players stinks out the  England team.

England just don't get to me emotionally. If we get knocked out i'm not surprised or bothered for long. Chelsea on the other hand, they can change my mood in an second.

I was just coming on to express my annoyance at fellow England fans on Twitter. We’ve played well in this friendly against Nigeria yet all they are doing is complaining. It’s exactly why England players feel the pressure so much, our media put too much on them and our fans do too. The fans post some absolute s***, most of it stems from league rivalries too. So you’ll find Liverpool fans moaning about how poor a united player is and so on it’s pathetic. Just get behind the lads!

Totally sh*te this half ; God knows how we will do against a better team than Nigeria...based on this 2nd half performance this is not encouraging; nothing for England fans to be optimistic about going into Russia
