Falling behind in the Transfer Market?

Featured Replies

United have signed Fred

Liverpool has Ketia and Fabinho, possibly Fekir

Even Arsenal have signed someone (though Lichtsteiner is over the hill).

Maybe I'm getting stressed out over nothing but I know we have a habit of doing business later than most and in a World Cup year I can see us getting rinsed on prices if we wait for it to finish.

I like some of the rumours I've heard (Bailey, Alison, Seri) but it all feels so ephemeral.

Am I the only one feeling a little nervous?

Not nervous about the other teams but of our pennypinching and haphazard transfer policy. We have so much deadwood now that needs clearing and need at most 5 key player signings.

I’m nervous, but it’s still early days, I think Fred is a good coup for United, but apart from that I’m not too bothered yet. Was hoping we’d get our business done early this window, a rarity and it doesn’t look likely but as long as we get our 3/4 players we need, that’s the main thing. I’ve heard that we might be selling a fair amount of players this window eventually, with a change in the loan system.

Not too worried just yet, more worried about the managerial situation seeing as no one has come out and backed Conte and no one has a clue on potential replacements.

1. No CL next season.

2. Ownership status unclear.

3. Managerial situation is still unresolved.

All those factors plus our recent track record shows we're not willing to spend big on a single player who's in demand and proven quality and instead prefer to spend the same amount on 3 other players who aren't a sure thing, hoping they'll prove to be a bargain. Sometimes it works (Alonso, Rudiger), but most of the time it doesn't.

I know he signed a new contract but if we're not going to spend big on proven quality we could do worse than sign Lewis Cook - he's running the show v Scotland U21, looks well above the level he's playing at which for me is usually the sign of a top player in the making. If the core of the team includes Billy Gilmour, Lewis Cook, Ampadu and Hudson-Odoi in a few years I think we have a very bright future, we need to start integrating these players.

Few years back folk were saying the exact same thing about Chabola, Ake, Solanke, Charlie and Ruben...

Fact is this is a very rare occurrence at the best of times never mind at a club such as ours.

Couldnt agree more, I've lost complete faith in us bringing players through. I was a massive advocate for integrating youth, even from back in the Mceachran days, followed by Baker, Bamford etc.. But absolutely nothing of the sort ever happens.

Best you can hope for is them having decent spells at lower level clubs, and then they end up there (mostly championship)

Sahar, Sinclair, Mancienne, Stoch, Borini...

To be fair they’ve all settled at lower levels now but still.

Not going to lie though it isn't exactly a hard life of you can make it to the Championship

Massive difference between championship level and playing for us though... Which is what most of us want

Get this thread every time the transfer window opens. In this case before the window has even opened. If you knew anything about Chelsea you'd know that our transfer dealings are kept quiet and rarely leaked. It will seem quiet until someones about to turn up for a medical. Stop reading every bit on transfer gossip and thinking that we aren't doing our bit.

This year the transfer window opened May 17, so you're wrong about the timing of the thread. As for our transfer dealings being done in the quiet, I'd say that may be what we're trying to do most of the time, but not always (Stones). Plus, I couldn't care less if we're very vocal about how we're going after or very secretive about it. The only thing that matters is the end result. And since the summer of 2014 when we bought Costa and Fabregas, our transfer business has been for the most part quite underwhelming , Kante signing two years ago being the only exception.

Falling behind in the transfer market? We aren't even in it, we got no DOF, the bird that's supposed to seal the deals swans off on holiday, and our money man isint allowed in country!! It took them 10 weeks to reimburse me a returned ticket earlier in season, so to negotiate a deal is no no at present
