We don't need to know the details, if we can keep on top of racial abuse in this poor forum with just a few moderators, why can't rich social media firms with all their resources? That's the question. Time to start making them pay for letting it happen.

Racism makes no sense whatsoever, but what also doesn't make sense is why Reece James is being attacked? He's been one of our best players, was gutted Lampard got sacked, what the f**k has he done wrong? He wasn't even in part of those bull sh*t rumours either...

While I agree is only a small percentage, in the last few years (without wanting to transform this into a full blown political discussion, since the Brexit campaign started), I have witnessed an increase in xenophobic and racial abuse in society. Iv'e heard slander about Polish, racial abuse towards black people, Spaniards being challenged in the street for speaking Spanish.... They are a minority, but they are getting bolder and there's no a clear response from the authorities or society, they can do it because there's no repercussion.

There can’t be any reason for it other than bigoted views of an oxygen thieving c**t.

 

I wonder if making isolated racist attacks so public is inadvertently making things worse?

While those people very much deserve to be called out and held to account some people have the mindset that any publicity is good publicity, if they know that something like this will get them the attention they crave i can't help but worry we'll see more of this going forward, not less!

I see what you're saying. For example, I doubt James would've even known about this if a spotlight wasn't already on it. 

We live in a world where on social media you get terrorist plotting attacks, death threats, racial abuse, homophobic abuse, all horrible things happen daily. That's the information age. I can't help but feel that sometimes this feeds the trolls, like the Abraham incident last year in the Super Cup final when he missed that penalty, a few trolls online with football avatars gave him racist abuse. Tammy would never have known about it if it wasn't plastered all over the newspapers. 

The media love to stir the pot. This is in no way shape or form me saying "sweet it under the rug" but you have to look at the context and the way the media operates. 

He was racially abused on his Instagram account, personally attacked, and you two say he should ignore it ? FFS !

I don't think people realise how widespread Racism is in modern society especially on Social Media, you need people such as Reece to point it out for massive corporates to make changes.

If absolute role models such as Reece are getting racial abuse all over social media can you imagine the level of abuse a random Joe will be getting for voicing an opinion. Freedom of speech at times is used as a shield for hate speech but what about freedom of speech for those who want to express an opinion but can't out of fear of hate, and abuse. 

Ignoring it is never the answer especially if you have a platform which can drive change, something someone like Reece has.

This is some 13 year old retard in some backwater who is probably giddy with the fact hes getting attention.

In that case I apologise to him if I misread it.

My big take from this though is these platforms need held accountable for the lack of action against posts. I'm pretty sure this forums owners could be on trouble if they allowed constant hate speech, racial abuse etc to be posted, yet Facebook, twitter, Instagram etc keep getting allowances made.

Different in this case as the abuse was directly and privately directed to James.

People dont do this for attention, they do it for hate, that is why it a hate crime not a "attention seeking" crime.

I'm aware of that. But things can be two things. 

I never said James shouldn't report it. Publish it. Post it. 

My solution is that social media shouldn't allow every tom dick and harry to reach out to celebrities so this can't happen. 

Every other solution doesn't work.

I assumed he was talking about the media, which is a point I agreed with. I didn't know until just now it was James who released them himself, I thought it was again trolls on Twitter judging by the responses on here saying it's trolls with fake avatars on twitter.
