I personally don’t believe they are actually interested in him. He’s a completely different player profile than mount and if they are penny pinching for Mount how will the match Brighton’s 80mil+ valuation? Sounds more like then trying to scare us into bending to their terms.

What did he do ?

He wasn't part of the negotiations.

It went as all transfers go, we asked for an amount , United offer less , then they  increase it up to within touching distance of our price.

But Man Utd trying to publicly blackmail us through media leaks by threatening to move onto other targets including Caicedo is just naughty.

We should secure Caicedo as a priority as soon as possible IMO.

We have settled our FFP issue so can move for other targets without panicking over Mount.

They are probably thinking spending £65 million on someone who is in the last year of his contract is less value in a transfer compared to someone who still has 4 years left to run on his contract and will only cost £25 million more.

Which from a business POV makes sense I suppose.

For me our options, and Masons, should remain the same even if United do move on:

1. A club meets our minimum price, Mason gets sold.

2. Mason signs a new deal for at least 2 further years. Club should offer him near Reece money for 2 further years and is up to him to prove he deserves that bracket. 

If it does not work out then we are in a better position to sell next summer.

3. No offer and no new contract. Mason trains with the reserves and is not involved with the first team.
