Positives, Chalobah is looking the real deal, Havertz even before his goal,  Kovacic and Saul have done ok as a pair.

Ziyech continues to disappoint despite his assist.

Tbf he's not a second striker that's not his game, he's not been amazing but at least he put in a good ball not to mention he has pressed out of possesion as well

It's not about his positioning, his passes are just average best excluding the corner. Just sloppy passing when it matters

Well that's what we paid £72m for! (citation needed)

"They wanted the clowns" I suppose. Feels very half-arsed from the selection to the crowd. Being 1-0 up at the break is pretty good to be honest considering we've put out a bunch of players with a handful of appearances between them, including some the club/manager openly doesn't care about. It's not exactly surprising that we look disjointed. We're a c**t hair away from Kovačić having the captain's armband for f**k's sake...

Definitely a game for hilarious moments rather than proper analysis or strategic brilliance, so highlights so far:

- Kepa rushing off his line to to convincingly claim a ball off the head of someone taller than him.

- A 5'11 dystrophic Saúl almost scoring from a header about 90 seconds after I'd said 'now these are 22 players who can't win a header between them'.

- Us subsequently taking the lead from a header.

- The Southampton fans singing 'Johnstone's Paint Trophy, you'll never sing that' in response to our 'Champions of Europe' song like they did at the 2017 FA Cup semi. As funny now as it was then.

- I can't think of anything else. It's been a pretty dull half, almost like we put out the XI least like to affect our lineup against Newcastle expecting to lose then accidentally took the lead. Even Loftus-Cheek has been rested!

Not a great game, Kova and the wingbacks particularly hurting our offensive play. Boy what a difference Chilwell and James bring.

Still nice to be leading. Let's see if we can hold on, more games the reserves get, the better.

He disappoints because out of all the signings we made last year, he excited me the most. I was expecting a player with a wand of a left foot ,able to deliver a ball on a sixpence. Instead we get a player who is at best careless in possession and my thoughts are maybe the Eridisie is about his standard.

Not sure whether it's the complete dearth of home atmosphere or the positioning of the microphones but you can now hear one (presumably fat) Southampton fan shouting 'dodgy keeper' whenever they have the ball in our half.
